http://www.eonline.com/news/620692/...for-snl-s-40th-anniversary-special-sign-us-up Anyone else thinking of watching? Its apparently three hours long, but there aren't a lot of details so far other than a list of people who may or may not be live there. I'm on the fence. I was big time into SNL in the early 90s when I was in high school - the Mike Myers, Adam Sandler era. Then I still watched a lot when I was in college the remainder of the 90s - The Will Ferrell & Co. era. But I didn't have TV for about two years in 02-04, and I quit watching a lot of shows that I had, including SNL, and I never got back into it. I haven't watched a single episode in more than a decade.
SNL was probably my favorite show till about late 90's. After Ferrell left (He was last castmember that could "carry" a skit" imo), it got unwatchable. I really want to tune in, but i know it will be god awful.
I liked the Will Ferrell cast, but I think he carried it a lot by himself. I still think the last "great" cast was when Phil Hartman was in it, along with Lovitz, Miller, Carvey, Kevin Nealon, Nora Dunn, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Sandler and Chris Rock. after that cast I stopped watching for quite awhile. then you look at the previous cast and how awful it was: Anthony Michael Hall, Joan Cusack, Robert Downey Jr, Randy Quaid and Martin Short. no wonder it was so short lived. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Night_Live_cast_members
I've never seen any of the episodes from the mid 80s. I actually have liked all of those actors in TV and movie roles, but I'm not sure how any of them would work on SNL.
they were horrible together. not even a little bit funny. when you look at the timeline you can see they had a 2 year run before they pulled the plug.
Im good enough - im smart enough and gosh darnit People like me - Loved Al franken as Stuart Smalley Also, love toonces the cat, Adam Sandler's Opera Man, the Cheerleaders, Pat, wayne and garth and my favorite, The Church Lady. SNL is a shell of it's former self, i havent laughed since maybe 2008 - the presidential skits with tina fey were pretty funny. one exception - Justin Timberlake was pretty funny, too.
