I was hoping they would hire Marrone.. Schwartz was the reason for Buffalo's success. I guess the Jets' realized that and went after the hot defensive coordinator instead.
Good one. Philbin gets fired and he will be lucky to get a job coaching offensive lines or a single position coach. Bowles gets fired and he will always be considered a defensive coordinator candidate at the very least. So who has more credentials? Bowles.
It all boils down to who is better Tannehill or Smith. I like Tannehill in that race. I also like Tannehill better than anyone Buffalo will field.
If you think the Jets are sticking with Smith then youre delusional and Tannehill is decent but nothing special. Was jim Kelly better than Marino? Was Testerverde/Esiason better than Marino?
Except for 3 games as interim head coach for you guys, Bowles has never been a head coach. So let's not anoint him the next Vince Lombardi. That said, I am happy with the hire. He utilizes an aggressive 3-4 defense which the Jets are familiar with and while he has been well liked by players, he has been know to lay into them when needed. Jets fan are very upset with the prospect of Chan Gailey as OC. Most think he is too old and are leery of the fact that he has been out of football for 2 years. They also seem to focus on his tenure as a head coach. Personally, I always thought he was a very good OC and his experience will be very helpful for a first time head coach like Bowles.
W I dont see him being annointed the next Lombardi here? Its just clear hes better than Philbin which isnt saying much but Bowles credentials are superior.
Poor choice of words on my part. I'm trying to say that no one knows if he will be better, worse or the same as Philbin as a head coach.
That is true. I just have faith in his abilities. He was a great coach in Miami and did well with Arizona. It isn't a given that he will be good at head coaching. heck I thought Philbin would be a good head coach. Boy was I wrong.
You said in your first post that Bowles has been known to lay into players when needed. Philbin stood like a deer in the headlights as Hartline took a stupid ****ing penalty for "golfing" after a touchdown, which led to great field position for the other team, and eventually cost the Dolphins the game. That alone makes him a better coach IMO.
New York Daily News headlines: If Jets win super bowl: SUPER BOWLES! If jets finish 3-13: TOILET BOWLES!
People acting like they just know he will be better than Rex Ryan, personally I don't see anything to be all worried about.
Philbin is aptly named Queasy. He doesn't have head coaching experience, and his fear that he's going to do the wrong thing paralyzes him. He is learning on the job, has not developed instincts, and is therefore afraid to make snap decisions. That's why he calls time outs for the other team -- things are happening too fast for him. He needs time to think. I feel sorry for the guy; it must be a very stressful position to be in. But he shouldn't be holding that job yet. If he continues to because Ross has decided to let him grow into the job, we will have serial bad seasons until he does. And he may not have the mental capability.
Was talking Bowles replacing Rex. Don't get all giddy about pointing out our problems or we will send Jonathan Martin your way.
