That defense.... Curious to see if he does hire Trestman to run the offense. Also curious about if the front office there along with a competent OC can build a respectable offense or if this will be the Jets 2.0. Interesting to watch. I can only imagine what Jets' fans will do if he goes on to success there and they are stuck being, well the Jets. With Belichick in NE and Ryan in Buffalo (oh and Tannenbaum in MIA ha), it'd be like watching two former girlfriends go on to marry millionaires while you settle for your backup prom date.
Yep. If he brings Trestman in they will be legit real quick. Rex running that Defense with their personnell would be huge!
Other rumors show him hiring Greg Roman as OC, Dennis Thurman coming with him as DC. Maybe Miami can hire Schwartz.
My only concern would be that the Bills defense is built to be a 43 scheme, though they have some pieces to be a legit 34. Jerry Hughes, if he returns, would be a nice Sam/Jack type role. Who would be their nose tackle, Kyle Williams? And will Mario Edwards stand up as a LBer? IMO he's better at being a 43 end. We'll see what Rex comes up with.
The Bills were already on their way up with Marrone, they had no idea they would upgrade at head coach in the offseason and they did....
I really thought he was headed to ATL. I guess the feeling wasn't mutual. Trestman would have been a dangerous O Coord, but I'm not so sure about Roman.
This is bad news for both our teams. If Buffalo can find a QB, they could be a legit playoff team. I am not a happy camper right now. I was hoping he would go to Atlanta. I wonder if they bring Sanchez in.
Theyre going to bring a temporary quarterback and draft one. My guess is Clausen will be on the radar if Trestman is there. So will Sanchez because of his connection with Ryan. But it wouldnt be a permanent role, just someone they will have until they find a franchise quarterback.
They already ran the 34 the year before with Pettine at DC, so it wouldn't be hard to go back to a 34 once Ryan gets there.
IMO they were better this year with Schwartz running the 43. But I do agree their defense has constantly switched between the two schemes and their personnel is interchangeable. Rex also runs a sort of hybrid 34/43 with more of a 34 base. Scary to think what he can do with the pieces they already have(and could add from Jets/Ravens FAs)
Bills get a coach that players actually play for. Watch their draft and FA period. They already were just a few pieces away from serious contention.
At best we need to build our line so that we can look average against thT defense. Theres no stopping them even if you had five all pros protecting Tannehill.
The Bills are tired of being bottom feeders and take a big chance. Rex will not come cheap. The Dolphins just wallow in their own bodily waste.
Agree, the time is now to finish building our O-line. As much as I want a big reciever in the first round, I'm contemplating whether or not we should grab a stud guard or OT and convert to G. La'el Collins, TJ Clemmings. Or wait in the 2nd round and grab AJ Cann or Tre Jackson. The AFC East just got more competitive. The Bills, minus a good QB, are much more loaded on offense than the Jets ever were under Ryan. They get a decent QB, watch out.
This will be a defining moment in Dolphins' history... If the Bills become legitimate when we had TWO chances to hire Rex... we're going to look back at this and just cry.
Bills defense gets better.... like we needed that in our lives. **** it all. If they get a QB, watch out.
I don't see many options for them at quarterback in free agency, as I said they could trade for Sanchez or Clausen. In the end they might be good for 7-9 wins next season. Finding a quarterback in the draft will be key... If they really want true value in the draft, they have to look into Cato and Doughty. Those two are red hot franchise quarterback candidates in the third-fourth round. Doughty will likely become a second round pick when all said is done because of his measurements and intangibles.
Well Rex did get the Jets to the AFC Championship game twice with Sanchez. I wouldn't underestimate what he could pull off with the Bills next season.
There have been conflicting reports about what the Bills plan to do with the DC position. Some reports say Rex wants to keep Schwartz but I can't see the two working together. Schwartz is predominantly a 43 guy and is used to be the "head coach" of the defense. Can't picture him taking orders from Rex. Some reports have said Rex plans on hiring Dennis Thurman to be DC.
The Bills were already the biggest threat to the Patriots before this hire. Now with Ryan as their head coach, they just got that much better on defense and they already had the best defense in the division. They still need to find a QB and that has been Ryan's main issue when he was with the Jets. I think hiring Trestman as his OC will help him resolve the QB issue over the next few years. I think the Bills hiring Ryan was a great move on their part and one which Dolphin fans will regret over the coming years. Ross had his chance but once again, Mr. Clueless proved he has no idea what he is doing as an NFL owner. J
We prob could have had him I would guess. Too bad our owner is a moron. I actually hope they kick our *** next year. Send Failbin off, and maybe then we can run this idiot Ross out of town.
really surprosed rex didnt take the atlanta job with the qb situation as it is with both franchises. this is just jets part deux
This decision was a mistake if Rex had other opportunities. If he didn't have other opportunities, then I guess a HC job is better than no HC job. His situation in Buffalo is very similar to when he took over the NYJ. Both teams were 9-7 and were loaded with defensive talent. Rex needs to find himself a QB. Sadly, it's easier said than done. My guess is Cutler is on his way to Buffalo and Rex will have to figure out how proceed from there.
Bills have no 1st round pick. They'd have to keep mortgaging their future to trade for him. Don't think Cutler is worth giving up picks for. Rather rent a journeyman for a year then try to grab a a QB the following offseason.
From what I read it could go either way, but releasing him would leave Chicago with alot of dead money. So I think they're leaning towards keeping him. Not sure any sane team would trade for him and that ridiculous contract.
well, this sucks. on top of the bills defense getting even better with Ryan as HC, they will probably get that surge from 1st year of a new HC to go along with it. Any decent QB play, even if they kept Orton as starter, makes them a wild card team.
Orton retired. I just don't understand why we haven't gone after a def coord yet and are sticking with Coyle. SMH
