Ross is a ****ing closet JET fan....has to be the case. Why take anything away from Hickey, it's pretty much well known throughout league circles and fans he did well his first year as GM. Whatever....let the merry-go-round continue......we're all used to it by now anyways.
If this is true I hope a sinkhole swallows the "new" stadium this year and the team is forced to move to LA and change their name instead of the Rams. Then maybe someone else can come in and bring back the team with a fresh start. Otherwise its more years of watching every other team aside from the Bills and Browns make a run at the Super Bowl.
He also traded for Tim Tebow, Signed Mark Sanchez to a contract extension, and traded away multiple draft picks to get the likes of Vernon Gholston and trade up for Mark Sanchez. Gotta love it folks!
GM isn't his job with us though. This news doesn't move any needles with me. It doesn't excite me nor does it bum me out. It's an unknown and we have to just see how it works out.
Read the news just now on the SC app on my phone and I suddenly felt ill. I have no hope for us under Ross. Tannebaum left the Jets in cap hell with very bad contracts to bad players.
If you think that Tannebaum will have no say in that then you're fooling yourself. He has the same role Parcells had with us and Parcells was very much responsible for some of the draft picks and free agent signings until he handed it over to Ireland.
He's also responsible for drafting D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold, Darrelle Revis, Dustin Keller, and Muhammed Wilkerson. And he's not our GM. Don't be silly.
They've been laughing at us since the end of Philbin's second season dumbfounded how he can't make it to the playoffs with the roster he had in place.
My first thought was that we've just signed the guy who drafted Mark Sanchez. This is clearly not good. On the flip side, it's unlikely to have much effect this year. He'll be too late joining the organisation to make major change. So the hope now is that Hickey and Philbin smash it out the park this year and Tannebaum remains relatively hands off after seeing them perform well. I don't believe that's likely, but it's what I'll have to cling to now.
Yeah but Bill Parcells was Bill Parcells. Tannebaum doesn't have the same track record. I'm not to worried about this.
No one knows if he's GM or not. No one knows if Hickey now reports to him. Knowing Ross he absolutely does. This is sad.
Then why hire him? This is a make or break year for Philbin, if it's "too late in the game" whats the point?
Dennis Hickey is still the GM and he's still in charge of building the roster. This move is just a way for angry fans to get angrier when we have no idea how it'll work out.
Who was in control of the Jets football operations from 2004-2007? I ask because that four year run they had in April was pretty damn impressive and fueled their twin AFC Championship runs during Rex's tenure.
Oh, I totally agree. I'm just trying to rationalise this in a way which prevents me from drinking myself to death
He's still going to be a voice in the organization. I wouldn't want him selecting the new seat color or brand of toilets in the stadium (exaggerating obviously, but you get the idea). And Hickey will still have to report to him I assume, like Ireland reported to Parcells? He may not be making the decisions, but he could potentially sway them...though hopefully not. Though like with everything else, I'll hope it works out... In the end it probably makes no difference on how the 2015 season will go. Not optimistic with Tannenbaum, wouldn't be optimistic without him either. Can't picture Joe Philbin standing on the sideline coaching a team in the Super Bowl regardless of who the head of football operations is.
What a f****** circus. Should have kept Ireland, he wouldn't allow this s*** and would have fired failbin a long a** time ago. He never had the pull however unfortunately, especially after Parcells left. At least he found Demarcus Ware in Dallas, Vontae Davis (which he then f***** up), Cameron Wake, Lamar Miller, Tannehill, Charles Clay, Reshad Jones, Jared Odrick, Mike Pouncy, and Olivier Vernon to name a few. Sadly, as flawed as Ireland was however, he's the only reason in my honest f****** opinion that we even field a competitive team. And now Hickey who did very well his first year may be handcuffed by a moron and a b**** dawg aponte. F*** my Dolphins!
Of course Dennis reports to him, that comes with his title. Everyone from Philbin to Dennis and the stupid Dawn Aponte reports to him now.
Honestly, I think it's best to have SOMEONE in charge of Football Operations, especially if that someone is cozy with Dan Marino inside the organization, which I think those two are. I think Tannenbaum is going to end up the buffer between Ross and actual football operations (i.e. if this had happened in 2014, I doubt Joe Philbin is still the coach, just my opinion) and in the future prevents Ross from well...being Ross with respect to football ops. I think this could also signal that Dawn Aponte may be looking for an out, as I believe she had a title similar to this. On the face of it, I don't see this as a bad move; it's something that already *should* have been in place. Again, on the face of it, I don't see this as a bad thing other than the fact that Dolphins fans associate Mike Tannenbaum with being bad because of how his tenure as the Jets GM ended up. It wasn't always bad there.
There was another report saying that Philbin won't report to Tannebaum. Edit: From Adam Beasley on Twitter, although I can't figure out how to link to it on my phone.
La Canfora saying Hickey was just a one year bandaid. Of course he's not credible, he usually gets 20% of what he says right.
lol and its a move where constant nut huggers will scoff at and think it means nothing per usual when this team stays at .500 again again again and again.....by all means lets hire some more guys fired from teams that were and are worse than us, thats a great business model.
Who gives a crap if he's our gm or not. He was a complete failure with the Jests and shouldn't be in any way associated with our franchise. Just watching him on hard knocks and how he patted a guy on the back and said "your doing great, your doing great, your cut". Call it intuitiuon, but just like the Falcons head coach, he doesn't exude intelligence. Perfect fit for us lol.
