    From the article:
And the difference there is that they haven't established the quarterback play necessary to feel hopeful about Rex Ryan's future in New York, whereas Ryan Tannehill is playing in such a way that you don't disturb his surroundings and his development by firing his head coach. The game revolves around quarterback play to the extent that it should be the primary consideration in making decisions such as these.

    1 LB, 1 guard and a CB - and we're a strong playoff team.

Hickey needs to follow up with another good draft.

The only part of Andys story I disagree with is that the Heat are anything more than average much like the other Florida sports teams.

    Dumbest post of the year.

Heat have accomplished more in 25 years than the Dolphins have in nearly 50.

Same thing goes for the Marlins as well. Same number of titles in half the time

I usually agree with Dave Hyde, but not this time. I look at the Lions, who were mired in multiple decades of perennial mediocrity, and how they slowly but surely dug their way out. Maybe the way out for us isn't to time-transport the team back to how the league was in'69 and bring on the Second Coming of Don Shula. Maybe it's like the Lions.

In perspective, one has to think that expecting a Super Bowl every year was unrealistic. What we have now is more like reality. We'd be better off studying how Belichick did what he did in New England.

Seeing as Philbin is sticking around, I feel like today's game is pretty important. Not just for the sake of beating our rivals. We need to end on a high note to get a little positive energy going as we head into the offseason.

Hard to say how the Jets'll come out. Rex's last game should mean something to them...but I mean the dude is already cleaning out his office, lol.

Hyde's article is pretty spot on. There's a LOT of holes on defense that I don't think many fans notice, and Miami still have to rework the O-line and receiving corps to be a playoff caliber team. Dennis Hickey, who was essentially Jeff Ireland average this year, has his work cut out for him this offseason.

Hyde's point was that the Heat doesn't accept mediocrity and that they have a plan to be great again.

Believe me, Riley and Arison aren't crowi about being the 7th seed right now

That's one way to look at it, if you're judging just by championships won. But imo there's more to it than that- the Shula era brought with it a sustained level of excellence- the 2 Super Bowl wins were a little before my time, but for twenty years after that we were usually in the thick of things and game days were electric, Dolphins Monday Night Football games were an event and of course there was Dan Marino. Everyone got jacked up for the games, the Don Shula Shows with Chuck Dowdle at 8:30 just before MNF were great and the Dolphins were central to south Florida. To me that's critical stuff, not just championships won versus the Heat and Marlins. The last twenty years under Huizenga and Ross have been mostly crap and a far cry from how great it was to be a Dolphins fan in the 80's and 90's. To me the Dave Hyde article is spot on.

It is what it is, it's not as if no one is trying to get this team over the hump. It's time to build continuity because the 3 year plan is ridiculous when your virtually turning the entire roster over. Its easy to forget Miami had the worst team and least talented roster in the league just over a handful of years ago. Hyde is simply whining with no purpose but to vent frustrations and share his negative perspectives on everything. No surprise OP jumped at this article. If it was upbeat with insight into the future of the team it would be worthless.

No, and the metaphor makes sense when you have back to back owners whose "sense of taste" when it comes to football is not so hot.

You can't deny the team's progress. I love how throwing away everything we built to hire some Nobody to be our saviour is the right course of action while continuing to progress is an acceptance of mediocrity. Talk about Bass ackwards. At least suggest a better alternative if your going to act like you know so much.

To many it's quite a simple process.

    1. Fire everyone. Fire the gm and coaches. Fire the janitors and IT staff. The kitchen workers and team chefs.

    2. Hire gm X and coach Y.

    3. ???

    3a. Wait a year and a half.

    4. Instant Dynasty.

    5. (Optional) If the above does not work, repeat steps 1-4.

Not sure why having a strong opinion about this one-way-or-another always has to turn into an indictment of posters character and personality traits.

My best option will probably end up coaching Michigan, so if Ross basically stuck with Philbs because there are no better candidates, and so Hickey and Philbs can both be kept or fired at the same time next season, then it makes a bit of sense.

    Not any more palatable, though.

I think people would accept this better if it were in the context of a history of savvy moves by Ross. The context of his past blunders makes it harder to see the current decision favorably. Also, Dan Marino's annoyed face behind Ross' dopey one is all I can see when I think of Philbin being retained.

It's the common theme of a posters certainty as to what is the incorrect course of actions, with zero insight to what is the correct course of action. It's the "grass is always greener" mentality that is widely understood as the most ignorant stance you can take. It's one thing to have a strong opinion , but to consider your opinions fact..... And assume the professionals know less than you.... Would certainly be an indictindictment on a posters character.

Interesting you mentioned the Lions, who underwent a coaching change and suddenly they're getting good returns on the talent they have on their roster.

Don't understand this logic at all. Makes zero sense. So championships only matter if the primary core of players were drafted by the team? Makes zero sense. Zero.

Well, 3 yrs ago, Seattle was ok, considered up and coming...the 49ers were just re-finding their ability to win under Harbaugh and Detroit was another so-so just finding their way...it's about getting the right combination of FO, coaching staff and players... It hasn't happened in 3 yrs here...is the GM the problem ?? The coaching staff?? The scouts?? The players ??? Is continuity the answer ?? Given this roster and staff will more of the same change anything ?? When you can't answer those questions, it's the ownership...

I'll give you this team seemingly improved in some areas that we weren't seeing improvement in the past couple of years, but the bottom line, is that under this regime, for the 3rd year, we're sitting on the bus bench watching the cars go by....

You can buy an NBA title. Boston did it before miami. You can't buy an nfl title. Too much parity, too many players on the field at one time. You can't compare the two sports when evaluating franchise titles imo.

If you want to be black and white to prove a point, so be it. At the end of the day the titles are on paper.

Hyde is spot on and it is not disputable. Fans defending phailbin or this failed season are part of the problem and love mediocrity. I'm sick of these pointless seasons. I'm sick of this pointless owner and this zombie coach. Love the QB and other pieces, and they deserve a better coach and owner.

I could see half this roster gone in the next two years. The defense needs to be rebuilt and there will be changes on the OL and at the WR position.

That is what happens to mediocre teams in the NFL and that is all this team is right now. I have no problem with continuity if you are talking about the Patriots, Packers, Seahawks, or Broncos.

I see absolutely nothing positive in continuing with a staff and many players who are nothing but mediocre in their profession.

I have no doubt that at this time next year, Philbin will be out and the Dolphins will be looking for a new HC. It is just a shame we will have to suffer through another year of this regime before we can actually start looking forward to a brighter future.

How is the same record as last year progress? Tannehill has shown improvement this year and so has Miller. That is about the extent of the progress for this team overall.

The Defense has not progressed at all and has in fact regressed considerably. Right now it is clearly one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

Only Dolphin fans would equate an 8-8 record, the same as last years record, as somehow showing progress by this team.

Ross needs to sell this team to an owner who actually has a clue. Any knowledgable owner can easily see that Philbin just isn't qualified to be an NFL head coach. Of course we have Ross, so what do you expect?

The article is spot on and very insightful when it comes to the fans being OK with the records. Defending Ross's decision to keep a clueless coach says more about where this team is heading and verifies the article.

Likely 1-2 DTs as well, depending on what happens with Starks and Odrick. Basically a whole D, really.
