Grown weary of the backs that have come out of Bama in recent years tbh. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
no they don't . RBs are undervalued in the draft. Unless the RB is the next Adrian Peterson, he's not worth taking with the 15th pick. I'll take CB, LB or guard with the 15th pick.
Melvin Gordon is the only back I'd take in the first with no hesitation. Aside from that I'm looking at offensive line prospects or a WR personally. I'm a HUGE fan of CB Quentin Rollins. In his first year playing college football after transitioning from Poiny Guard on the basketball team he has looked flat out amazing. Depending on his combine he could go anywhere from the second to fifth. Someone will take a chance. I also think Denzel Perryman may fall to the third if his combine numbers aren't decent. I'd take him at that point.
He looks like a stud even with limited experience. IMO he can intentionally have a bad combine and still won't be there in the 5th.
He has some issues too. Mainly with technique since he's raw. I expect him to run in the mid-high 4.5 area which may bother some teams considering he's raw too. However I expect him to have a great cone drill and vertical. I'm hoping third round.
look at the impact of a really good Oline on Dallas and Romo's performance from previous years. that's 100% because of how good their Oline is. look at how our team has crumbled with the decline of our Oline. guard wouldn't be my first choice at #15, but if the best guard in teh draft is available, I'd consider it. my first choice would be to get a CB or LB.
I hear you but I think some fans & the talking heads so-called tv draft gurus make too much out of combine numbers. Yes, Rollins has a small sample size but this past season he was a playmaker on gameday.
I'm with you. I don't like taking RB's that high. They are injured way too much and their careers just don't last. I think you can find good value in the 2nd and 3rd rounds for RB's. I'd be ok with LB, TE, S, CB, DT or a big, physical WR. Maybe an OG if he has the potential to be elite.
Personally I feel like the easies positions to fill via free agency are the offensive line (Minus LT), interior defensive line, and linebacker (to a certain extent). Which is why I wouldn't draft any of those positions high unless it was a flat out stud like Suh for example. CB and LB are fine to me honestly. However I'm more a proponent of taking offensive players early. Its generally those skill positions you need to draft well for because they don't really hit FA.
We actually have to replace our starting LBs. I'm leaning towards Shaq T. and Denzel. FA LBs will be expensive.
To clarify when I said fine, I meant fine to draft, my fault. My ideal three round draft is something like 1) Melvin Gordon (Only HB I'd take in the first two rounds) 2) Denzel Perryman 3) Q. Rollins Or you can try anf be sneaky by taking Gurley later when he falls. But you're probably committed to less than a full season if not IR with him.
Depth is needed everywhere, and we don't know if players are going to get contract renewals or not. We should just go BPA.
IMy take has always been BPA by need. For example if I have two stub LBs but no defensive line talent and the LB is better...but just barely or a small margin I'm taking the DL. I don't think true BPA really exists antway because its all subjective.
I think BPA exists when the team have set themselves up to pick BPA. If you have no defensive line talent you're probably drafting the wrong way in the first place. I think there is a connotative BPA+need when BPA is mentioned, so I mostly agree with you. We didn't draft need in 2013 and that seems to be not working so well right now. What you don't want to do is reach for a need, which is what we might have done with James. James has had a solid if not great rookie year, so in hindsight it doesn't really matter, and no one knows how long he would have lasted after our pick. Hickey believed in his evaluation and proved a lot of draftniks wrong. What I don't want to see, however, is the passing of a potentially awesome player in lieu of a need when the need player is clearly on a lower tier than the BPA player. But I'd assume you'd agree with me on that.
I pretty much agree with all of this. I mean I'm not taking a third round talent in the first because he fills a need obviously. There is also another thing to consider IMO. That is how deep the draft is at each position. I mean lets pretend we assign some fake ratings here on our draft board. My two best players are a WR ranked a 92 and a TE ranked an 89. However I have 4-5 other WR I think will be available later ranked between 83-87, but my next TE is a drop off to a 76. I'd be more inclined to take the TE early even though he may be slightly less of a prospect than the WR. If both positions are needs I mean. I guess my overall point was just BPA may be too vague a term for the draft these days when so much resource is put into scouting and roster building.
Team needs playmakers on both sides of the ball. RB position is too undervalued to take one in the first round, maybe Melbin Gordon might tempt some and rightfully so, but you can also get a very productive back in the 3rd round as well. IMO the 1st round pick should be a WR or LB. Shaq Thompson/Vic Beasley/Denzel Perryman or Amari Cooper/Kevin White/DeVante Parker.
Dorial Green-Beckham or Devin Fuchness are the two big physical WRs we should look at. Could maybe hold off until 2nd round if either is still there, but I'd rather take a G in the 2nd, and this draft isn't deep at WR. Mario Edwards or Alvin Dupree would be nice DEs to add but its a very deep draft for DEs. A lot depends on what we do in FA.
Some of you guys should be in the stock market with your analytical skills. Me Im not that smart, I just want a big thumper type of running back to help move the chains, and to take some pressure off our developing quarterback.
Devon would work. I want that kind of big punishing running back that punishes other teams. Not Lamar (rag doll) Miller.
Miller is OK but Devin Johnson is a big punishing back 6 foot 1 245 pounds and runs in the four fiveshey dude can flat out run we need to draft as quarterback to Rakeem Cato to compete with tanny and be his backup at least for the first year
