Social fan Casual fan Hardcore fan Extreme fan So what fan are you? Personally I consider myself to be a hardcore fan of the Dolphins.
I used to be extreme, but now I think I'm in between causal and hardcore. I don't get into the NFL that much anymore, even though I'm going tomorrow if I wasn't taking my cousins, I doubt I'd go
I'd say I'm a diehard. I've stuck with this team through the lowest lows and look forward to better days ahead.
What are qualifications of each? I don't know what I classify in, all I know is, I root for them win or lose. Been though the 1-15 seasons and enjoyed the 11-5 season. Dolphins have taught me early about heartbreak, and made me realize that no girl will ever break my heart as bad as the dolphins do. I am a Yankee/Dolphin fan and I think I am a bigger Dolphin fan than I am Yankee because I want to see Dolphins win it more than the Yankees, I have seen them win plenty of times, I want to enjoy the Dolphins Super Bowl, and I can't wait till that day comes and all other Dolphin bandwagon fans come out, because they always do, I mean look how many Seahawks fans you see in 2014 compared to 2012 Seahawks fans. I will be glad to know I am not one of those bandwagon fans.
I'd say Hardcore. No other team in any sport is in my blood like the Phins. During the season, it's on my mind all week. I'd reserve extreme for the types that are hardcore fans and also can discuss the finer points of gaps and techniques and the like. I never played organized football that stuff is over my head (but i'm learning).
Frustrated Fan 25+ years and no offensive beasts drafted. How is that even possible!? I feel like storming into the facilities and chewing some *** over there in April!
I think this question is better answered from someone else, so I asked my girlfriend. She says I am an extreme fan.
Well, I haven't missed watching a game in so many years that I`ve lost count. I don't mean 3, 4, or maybe 5 years...I`m talking more like 20+ years, true story. Also, when the Dolphins come to N.Y. I always go to the games and same holds true for when the Dolphins play in New England, I take the drive to Foxborough . I think that counts a as die-hard fan myself.
I became a fan in 1966, at the age of 16. I absolutely was an extreme fan for the better part of the next 30 years. I lived and died with the team and the entire time the Dolphins were playing during the regular season and when they made the playoffs, I was consumed by how they performed on the playing field. I attended every home game they played during this period, except for the three seasons I was in the military and stationed elsewhere in the world. My wife and daughter understood that during football season, the only time we would travel would be to attend a Dolphin away game and that I would be attending all the Dolphin home games, whether they wanted to go or not. I can admit that during the first 30 years of the Dolphins franchise being in Miami, I was an obsessed fan. Over the past 15-18 years, (I'll call them the mediocre years), I have come to realize that life goes on, whether the Dolphins win or lose. While I no longer attend Dolphin games because I now live nearly 6000 miles from South Florida, I still watch every game on Direct TV. I root for the Dolphins to win every game, but I have now become a realistic Dolphin fan and I am no longer the extreme fan I was for many years. I realize that win or lose, the sun will still rise and set each day. I think now I enjoy the victories more and the losses are something I get over quite rapidly. Fifteen years of mediocre play and the wisdom of age has made me understand that it just isn't worth putting myself through the aggravation I did when I was younger. I certainly hope the Dolphins once again become a consistent winner and it would be great to see them win another SB before I become worm food, but it is no longer the priority for me that it once was. I was fortunate to get to experience the Dolphin years in which they were at the top of the NFL. I got to see them play in five SB's and win two of them. I was in the Orange Bowl for every game of their undefeated season. I was there when they were the only team to beat the 1985 Bears. I suffered in the stadium when they lost one of the greatest NFL games of all time to the Chargers. My hope is that all the younger Dolphin fans who have not had the opportunity to experience the highs of rooting for a Super Bowl winning team will have that chance in the near future. There is nothing better for a fan of the NFL than to be the fan of the team which just won a Super Bowl.
I'm somewhere between casual and hardcore. I've been a Cowboys fan for 45 years, I love football, but I live in South Florida. Decided to start following the local team, so I got season tickets this year and have been screaming myself hoarse at every home game. I'm still learning the players, but I'm excited about Landry, Lamar Smith, and the defense. Not sure if Tannehill's the man yet, but we'll see. I'm enjoying the stadium experience overall, and will keep rooting for the Fins....unless they play Dallas.
hard core.. I dont have rooms in my house decorated Aqua and orange.. But Im here every day.. Most of the time even on the off-season. When they lose I feel the sickness in my stomach and when they win.. My week is much better. I'll always be an optomist.. Yeh get my heart broke but every season is new. Way I see it.. If the team believes in themselves.. So will I
Middle aged fan? I love my Fins, used to get Dolphin Digest in the early 80's, have Dolphin gear older than lots of people, I'm on here daily.
Glad to see you have decided to follow the locale team. I lived in South Florida for over 50 years and the one thing which drove me crazy were all the fans of other teams around the league. While I never minded them rooting for the team they followed prior to moving to South Florida. I just never understood the serious dislike for the Dolphins by many of these fans who had decided to make South Florida their new home. I'm sure you still root for the Cowboys after being a fan for 45 years, but it is nice to see that you have taken the opportunity to also root for the locale team in your new home town. Not to correct you, because I am sure as a long time Cowboys fan, you probably were thinking of Emment Smith when you stated you were excited with the play of Lamar Smith. It's Lamar Miller, but since you admitted you are still learning the players on the Dolphins, calling him Smith instead of Miller is certainly understandable.
This is a Dolphin hard core fan site.We have a high percentage of our members who are Club members and there is not much dropoff in activity between the season and off season . You could say we are lifers.
You mean there a people who are fans of other teams.....Blasphamy! I consider my self hardcore. Love the Phins but do not go over board.
I think you need to add absentee fan = a fan who lives in Dallas Cowboy country . the weird thing is 20 years ago I would see the lighter aqua jerseys beng worn frequently by fin fans Marino Ricky , Clayton but now all I see is Buffalo , Jets and Pats fans . the dolphin fanbase is dying around here. to make matters worse I bought cable channels hoping to see my Dolphins on tv and this really suxs because I only get to watch when the dolphins are on prime time so I have only been able to see the team twice this year.
At least we had Ricky for awhile through trade. I remember the year of the trade, I drafted him #1 in my fantasy league, was getting tons of sh*t from other coaches about the homer pick. He proved me right. He was fun watch and root for.
Hey, you know who Lamar Smith is (subliminally apparently) so i'd say you've got the hardcore goods. Cool reading about a "convert" fan. So right now if Miami played Dallas in the SB, who do you root for?
I'm extreme, working towards being hardcore. But the money I spend and the havoc I wreak on game days...yeah...not healthy.
Been a fan since I was a kid. Grew up in Florida but now live in Oklahoma. Wear my Dolphin jersey every game day, Dolphin license plate on the front of the car, got DirectTV just for Dolphin games. Make my coworkers sick of hearing about the Dolphins (they are a nice mix of Cowboys, Packers, 49ers and Bears fans but dont watch games not broadcasted). I know 90% of the players and positions on the 53 man roster. I think Im considered hardcore.. Not yet extreme due to not going to games (If they come to Dallas or KC in the future I will try to make the trip) or familiar with all of the coaching staff. No tattoos. Im not a big X's and O's guy. I just enjoy watching them play.
The offseason is equally fun and interesting, and competitive for me..no offseason for me seriously, I love it.
You mean there's no option for BDFS? Battered Dolphins Fan Syndrome. I'd say that I'm hard core, but probably on the low end of that spectrum. Coaching football last year helped me realize more about the X's and O's that are involved, and that game-planning is a very important, and underrated, IMO, aspect of football. I think most on here know I'm on record for not liking this coaching staff much. I think they fail to make obvious decisions, for example, moving Mike Pouncey back to C, that drag the overall performance of the team down. I think the talent level is "good", but not great, and when you don't have good coaching on a consistent basis, you get what Miami has been - a 6-10 to 8-8 team for the past 5 years. I like Bill Lazor, and Kevin Coyle, for the most part, is pretty good; he's got one stinker game a year it seems. Joe Philbin I think has some good ideas, but, he gets "queasy" in big moments and it shows in the decisions the staff makes in-game. Don't get me wrong, I love the Dolphins and they're my favorite team by far out of all the teams I root for: Dolphins, Cincinnati Reds, OSU Football, and UD Basketball. I've averaged at least one Dolphins game a year in-person since I graduated college in 2008 (was at Detroit this year). I check the playoff scenarios religiously if the Dolphins are "in the hunt" and generally have a Dolphins t-shirt or sweatshirt on during the game. I don't buy jerseys any more as everyone I've purchased in the last few years has been of a player that's been cut or traded the next year. I want to believe in this team, I really do, and I hope they restore my faith a bit as a fan, but the history is what it is.
I kind of think of it like... Hardcore - Financial investment of some kind (Tickets, DTV, Rewind, Gear, etc...) - Emotional investment into team - Spending free/personal time discussing the team - Making an effort to understand the team/game beyond face value (ESPN-esque analysis) Extreme - Same qualities as hardcore but... - You paint your face in team colors and/or play dress up w/a costume that makes even the most hardcore fans feel embarrassed for you and themselves.
The "money" criteria is right on. Look at your checkbook if you want to see your priorities. Went to the game in Detroit so I guess that counts.
I've been saying the same thing for a while. At times I think having been disappointed so many times and being older that I'm more jaded and my personal investment is slightly lower, but then when Rodgers threw that touchdown with a few seconds left a part of me died.
There needs to be a formula for this like a QBR. Number of hours a week dedicated to the team per week (games, forums, research ext. ) times percent of annual income spent. I say i spend .28% of annual income on the team including bar tabs on game days, rewind, gear and attending 1 game a year times 6 hours a week so.....I have a fan rating of 1.4. Lol sounds kinda low.
I'm a social fan... I just enjoy it for the social experience... I barely pay attention when they are actually playing...
