Its always fun to play around with. The good news? If we get to 10 wins, we hold the tiebreakers and will almost certainly get in the playoffs. Likely as the #6 seed. There are very few scenerios where we're out if we get to 10. The bad news is the 9 wins almost certainly won't cut it. Its very likely that at least one and maybe even three 10 win AFC teams could miss the playoffs. The surprising team that we need to root against if we go 4-2? Houston. If the Texans go 5-1 or 6-0 down the stretch, we could be screwed. As long as they lose at least two games, we should be ok. Virtually all other matchups effect the other three non-bye spots and not us.
It's screwed up right now. It's got Buffalo/Jets twice so they have 1 extra game. http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/machine
Houston scares me. 4 of their last 6 games are at home. I don't think Cincinnati is going in there and winning, although it'd help Miami if they did. Looks like at this point Miami need them to lose to Cincinnati and Indianapolis, or Indianapolis and Baltimore (only if Miami has already beaten Baltimore). Their other three games are the Jaguars twice and the Titans.
No way the texans go 5-1 or 6-0 with wins vs the colts, ravens and bengals. They have a guy thats started one game at qb. He's going to go through growing pains.
We have to sweep the Jest and beat Baltimore at home. Those are key games. Of course, beating Den and NE would make it much easier.
If we are to guarantee ourselves a place in the playoffs. I believe we have to sweep the Jets, beat both Baltimore and Minnesota, AND beat either the Broncos or the Patriots. This way if Kansas City manages to get to 10-6(this also implies that the Broncos won that division) we will still make it in at 11-5.
If we win out and NE loses to GB we'd be the top seed and win the division. If we win out and NE wins every other game but ours, we'd lose the division and be the 5th seed.
Yep, I ran those two scenarios as well. I would love to just win out! Then again, who here wouldn't want to see that? .... wait... I think I know the answer to that question.
It is back indeed, my 11yr old was on it last night and had us as 1st Seed and Pats as 6th... He also then even further off the deep end and set it up so his team (the jags) made the playoffs! We win out we are in a great place. I would love to see the Pack beat the Patsies.
I was able to get us up to #1 seed in the AFC by week 13 (two games). Anything is possible - we saw that last night in OAK - good for them on the win.
I think Oakland winning gad little to do with division rivals. I think it had to do with playing at home on TNF where the vast majority of teams win, plus playing an opponent that isn't overwhelming offensively. Throw in a pinch of hungry to not go 0-16 knowing that was their best shot.
We have to be a little scared of the Browns as well (funny saying that), I just ran a scenario where they go 4-2, win the division and the Steelers take the 5th seed.. then the Chiefs are tied at 10-6 with us for the last wildcard spot, which we lose because of the head-to-head tiebreaker.
looks like yahoo will have theirs up after this week's games. I kinda prefer theirs over ESPN, not sure why. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffscenario
that does screw everything up... I'm trying to get a tie with a bunch of teams at 11-5 to see what happens. Basically... can the Dolphins miss out on the playoffs if they are 11 and 5... but I can't get it correctly with Buffalo either being 11 and 6 or 12 and 5.
The jets suck but I will not be suprised if we split with them. The sting of last year is still in my memory. Look what happened to the chiefs last night. Feel alot more confident if we can steal one in denver.
Meh I keep it simple. 10 wins and we likely get in. Beat the Jets x2 Minnesota. Split 1-2 vs Den/NE/Balt So... win the "easy games" and win at least one of the not so easy games and I like our chances of getting in. If we can upset Denver it would be a huge boost for us. If not we're in a hole but have a chance still.
