Damm Afc is looking strong with 11 teams with winning records through week 9.We are competing against the entire afc north, the bills, and the chiefs, chargers. We need to win sunday and smoke the bills thursday night. My biggest concern is these are the teams that give us trouble with strong interior defensive lines. We win both I think we will make it.
Things will even out. The teams in the North and West have a lot of games against one another to go, and some tough matchups with the NFC.
Week 10 Kansas City @ Buffalo Week 11 Buffalo @ Miami Houston @ Cleveland Seattle @ Kansas City Cincinnati @ New Orleans New England @ Indianapolis Pittsburgh @ Tennessee (trap) Week 12 Kansas City @ Oakland (trap) Cleveland @ Atlanta Cincinnati @ Houston Detroit @ New England Miami @ Denver Baltimore @ New Orleans Week 13 San Diego @ Baltimore Cleveland @ Buffalo Washington @ Indianapolis New Orleans @ Pittsburgh New England @ Green Bay Denver @ Kansas City Week 14 Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati Indianapolis @ Cleveland Baltimore @ Miami Kansas City @ Arizona Buffalo @ Denver New England @ San Diego Week 15 Pittsburgh @ Atlanta Green Bay @ Buffalo Cincinnati @ Cleveland Houston @ Indianapolis Miami @ New England Denver @ San Diego Week 16 Cleveland @ Carolina Baltimore @ Houston Kansas City @ Pittsburgh Indianapolis @ Dallas Denver @ Cincinnati Week 17 Cleveland @ Baltimore San Diego @ Kansas City Buffalo @ New England Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh I included Miami's games against the other AFC Contenders. Even based only upon the "Well, someone has to lose this game" matchups, I think the worry of good records missing the playoffs is overblown.
Everybody seems to forget we are competing against the Pats too. There is no way I am conceding the division to them. Once we win during their bye we are only one game behind them and we play them again, even if we end up with the same record we will have the tie breaker.
Everybody seems to forget the 2008 11-5 new england pats failed to make the playoffs. Not to mention the 2003 miami dolphins at 10-6 also failed to make the playoffs so yes all these games are huge.
If every game is huge, then no game is huge. Winning this week makes the rest of the season easier, but it doesn't guarantee anything - good or bad.
That makes no sense. If every game is huge, than every game is huge. Let's say we are closer to the end of the season and you need to win out. Every game is a must win. You're saying since they're all must wins and then none of them are must wins?
Yes, thats exactly what I'm saying. I think that you and I may have had this discussion before the Buffalo game too. With a winning record and 8 games to go, no game is technically a must win at this point, unless you think that we'll need to be 13-3 to make the playoffs. So saying that every game is a must win is just nonsense. If we lose this week, I agree that the Buffalo game becomes even more important, but even then, since we could still lose both to the Broncos and Patriots and finish 9-7, its not a "must win". Saying otherwise is just crying wolf. Claiming things are much more important than they really are is a big pet peeve of mine. Keep calm. Take things one week at a time. If we lose the next three, THEN they all become must win games.
The "must" wins are NYJ X 2 and MIN .... because this team can and should win those games .... The only other 'important' games are BUF + BAL ... Since the are legitimate competition for a WC and are tough for us ... The DET + DEN don't matter in the grand scheme .... And NE only matters if you want to talk DIV ...
Yes, I want to talk division. THEREFORE, to win the division we need more wins ( or tiebreakers) then the second place team. Hence, ALL games are equally important in the grand scheme of things.
First of all I am a man who will admit he is wrong when time comes. If they lose the next two games I was right but hopfully I will be wrong. You on the other hand sound like an immature child who needs his binky.
He didn't say must win though. I analogized must win. He said every game is huge. And they are. If you lose it, then the chances of catching the division are tougher. Of course, if you lose and every other team in the wild card hunt loses, it's still huge because you had a chance to go up a game on them. He didn't say they were all must wins. Just that they are huge.
I think everyone is going to beat up on everyone and when the smoke clears 10-6 will definitely get you in the playoffs with 9-7 being a possibility.
Being wrong is one thing, being clueless is another. Being both, is sad. And I'll take young and immature over old and bitter any day. Two weeks ago we were going nowhere, now it's 11-5 or bust and if we lose two in a row you'll be right back to slinging mud just like the bandwagon fan you are.
Be careful. The goal posts move depending on what week it is. From April-October we were an 8-8 team w a hapless HC, scrub QB, in need of a total house cleaning. Now that we've won a few games and 8-8 looks unlikely, a new, 11-5 bar is being set, mainly so that even if we do better than most predicted the season can still be called a failure and the annual fire everyone rallies can begin on schedule.
Thats my goal too. We haven't had a legit playoff team in more than a decade. Well, 2003 was a legit playoff team that didn't make the playoffs, but you know what I mean. One step at a time. My real goal is to be the team that takes over the AFC East when New England fades away. I'm optomistic that we're trending there.
I hope you're right, and sooner rather than later. How smart is Belichick tho? He's already rebuilding his D to compensate for any potential drop off from Brady... Fortunately we've got a pretty good QB of our own, and a hellacious defense at his back. The days of anointing NE as division champs are over.
First of all I am glad you are man enough to admit you are immature. As for being clueless I have watched this team go 17-0 and win back to back superbowls so yea I think I know something about football and the history of the fins.As for being bitter its more about fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me.I am a emotional fan who needs to see wins to believe because of the recent subpar seasons of this once great franchise.
Looking more and more like we are still going to need 11-5 to make it. The competion just keeps winning.
I know ****ing sucks the defence has been *** raped in the 4qt and no way we beat the pats up there..All we had to do was close out one these close games and we would have smooth sailing to the playoffs. Well maybe if we go 4-1 we will get lucky like the chargers did last year. This team is capable of beating any team in the AFC with the expection of the pats in my opinion but of course it doesn't mean **** if we can't get there.Damm shame we couldn't hold on sunday.
Okay, so the six wins mean nothing? Three very close losses mean nothing? Many of us are bitter, but that doesn't mean that we have to become toxic towards anything positive either. We have a very solid team this year that's competing at a high level. Playoffs or not, a fan of the Miami Dolphins would be able to see that and celebrate with their team. Hating on them every week and bad-mouthing every person who thinks differently is just ignorant...that's not what being a Dol-fan is supposed to be about. And just because you got to live through the early 70's teams doesn't give you a right to tell others that they can't enjoy the Dolphins unless we win a Super Bowl. Really, that's the opposite of a fan...that's a cynic.
I've been a fan for over 30 years now. To me each new year is just that.. A new year. I don't look back and weep going we ha haven't made playoffs.. Or I won't believe till we win. I see good times ahead for our organization.. New stadium.. Return to playoffs yearly..
Whatever!Playoffs for this team is the only measure for success and I am sure the players would tell you the same thing. No rewards for almost making the playoffs.Football is not horseshoes. Tannehill throws for 30 tds and the defence finishes top 5 but who gives a **** if we are sitting home in jan again!!The people that say wow what a great season have sadly really low expectations.
Its got nothing to do with low expectations and I'm getting effing tired of that accusation being levied around here. It has everything to do with a concept called progress. Look it up.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that the Dolphins have to make the playoffs for you to enjoy the Dolphins. In fact I enjoy every Dolphin season, but I look at any season the team fails to make the playoffs as a failed season. The game isn't played merely to play at a high level. It is entirely about winning in the NFL and winning leads to making the playoffs. A loss by one point or 20 points is the same to me. It is counted in the loss column and no matter the score, if your team has enough losses, it won't make the playoffs. I think the Dolphins now have many in their fan base who simply think showing improvement is enough to be considered a successful season. If that improvement gets this team into the playoffs this year, I'll certainly agree that the season has been a success, even if they lose in the first round of the playoffs. Anything less than the playoffs and I just don't see how anyone can look at this team and say they had a successful season as a team. Especially when so many on this forum have been saying that this team has more talent and would beat the 2008 Dolphin team, which went 11-5 during the regular season and made the playoffs as the AFC East champion.
Exactly. These people think we want the team to fail and nothing is farther from the truth.I just want to win baby and if thats a crime lock me up.
Or, you and your ilk can learn about the concept of progress. Sure, its easier to ignore the ignorant, BUT if the ignorant endeavored to not be ignorant, the world would be a better place...or at least this board would be.
The fan base of this team has been beat down so bad that I can't believe you guys are going back and forth talking about 8-8 and now 11-5 is acceptable to you guys. The idea is to win the super-bowl every year. It is what the Bellicheck's, Harbaugh's, Laundry's and Lombardi's bring to the table. There is no trophy for second place, only first place. Anything short of that trophy and the team is a loosing team. The measuring stick of a coach is where does he set the bar. I can tell you with unequivocal certainty that Bellicheck's bar is the super-bowl - it is obvious. The guy doesn't even get excited when they win, because he know's he need's 10 or 11 more to get to the next level and then and only then does the real season start. Personally I don't think Joe Philbin set's the bar at the super-bowl. How can one achieve that level if you don't set it as the measuring stick???
Haha lets not get crazy now. These homers are with happy with progress and your talking don't settle for anything less than superbowl.Wait until they get hold of you. Dude just give me one game in jan and Ill shutup for at least for a season. The sad part is if they can get in they can win a game or two.
