Kevin Coyle states that he has the best tackle trio in the NFL. http://www.miamidolphins.com/news/a...Mitchell/c15b2b40-b758-4de3-82d3-71e337c0ff5b ''That group of three tackles, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find groups much better throughout the league when you go three deep there,” Coyle said. You’ve got guys, they all have a little different skill set. Randy is tough to move, he’s very smart inside and he’s productive. J.O. is probably the most gifted athlete out of the three. He can outmaneuver guys, he can still play strong at the point of attack, he’s a very good inside pass rusher. Earl is one of those lunch pail guys that just keeps on coming; he never stops. We’re real happy to have all of them.” Hickey deserves the credit for making the decision on going from Solai to Mitchell..personnaly, I thought that we needed a different dynamic as well and thought we should let big Paul walk, once I looked at Mitchells Reps It was a done deal. With Fairley out for the year I think we stand alone in this three headed monster..
I think the problem with Soliai was that he was great at the beginning of the year, however as the year went on he would get worse and worse. To the point where he isn't very good. If he kept up with his body and nutrition more, he could be a year round beast.
Agreed..I just really enjoyed mitchells style of play over what solai was doing, I wanted someone who had the quickness to knife, the strength to hold up, while being able to stay on the field all three downs, once I saw the motor, he was the right choice..really gotta credit hickey on this complex transaction.
We passed on Earl Thomas to trade down for Odrick.....we drafted Misi ahead of Gronk with the pick gained in the trade down....
obviously a lot depends on what we do in free agency but I agree with you, I would target corner and receiver early in next year's draft.
Hickey was also kind of forced to move on from Soliai. His contract demands and what he got from 'Lanna were much more than we gave Earl I think. Still, it worked out very well to be a good deal for us.
Paying Soliai was just a bad idea for a variety of reasons, even without Mitchell. You don't pay a guy premium for a skill set when you aren't really going to use it. A whole lot could happen or not happen to change that. Odrick is a FA, Starks hasn't really been himself this year. They could be running a 3-4 base next year. Etc. and so on.
L At the least we're gonna have two out of three of those tackles, we don't need any def ends..I don't see any scenario where dline is the way we go.
I don't know if I agree, especially if you're going in that 3-4 direction. The style of the defense in the league has shifted a bit, but I think you'd still be looking for a true 3-4 DE, and probably be looking at guys who plays end in some capacity for it. Even if you think Derrick Shelby is a viable starter and pair him with Starks as a 3-tech, you've got no depth and questions at a highly depth intensive important position.
