He's a good looking prospect. I brought him up about a year and a half ago. http://www.thephins.com/forums/show...draft-thread&p=2071640&viewfull=1#post2071640 And NUGap took a look at him as well:
lol, yes his buttocks and hips are wide and beautiful, but the work ethic and size to go with it, the demeanor to gain every stinkin inch, makes him very attractive to this team..we need him more then he needs us.. nice call Ck. You think he's comin out KB? no need for a running back to stay in school and put another 200 carries on that booty, come make your money son.
The RB picture is going to be pretty crowded. But yeah, generally no reason to keep taking more wear and tear.
Crowded? I say crowded. These are the guys rumored to be OUT (source): RB Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin (Pauline) RB Todd Gurley, Georgia (Pauline) RB Tevin Coleman, Indiana (Pauline) RB Duke Johnson, Miami-FL (Pauline) RB Jay Ajayi, Boise State (Pauline) RB Mike Davis, South Carolina (Pauline) And these are the seniors that HAVE to come out: RB Ameer Abdullah, Nebraska RB Karlos Williams, Florida State RB Jeremy Langford, Michigan State RB Michael Dyer, Louisville RB Corey Grant, Auburn RB Cameron Artis-Payne, Auburn RB Jahwan Edwards, Ball State RB David Cobb, Minnesota There are others of course. T.J. Yeldon could come out. Another guy I mentioned a year and a half ago in the same breath as Josh Robinson, Johnathan Williams of Arkansas could come out.
I think there is a good chance that he comes out if he gets a favorable grade in the 1st three rounds, particularly if we go on to win the National Championship. Plus, we will have backs coming back behind him. Ashton Shumpert and Aries Williams are on campus now, and we have a trio of backs coming in the next class. Nick Gibson is going to be a good one.
I don't see any reason why he wouldn't get that grade..his size speed ratio is unique for the position, his disposition elevates the grade as well..
Are there any full games of him? I haven't found any. Would like to see how he handles the other 95% of his carries that aren't highlight reel runs. For instance, -against Southern Miss, 28 of his 87 yards came on 1 carry. The other 13 carries averaged 4.5 yards. {Southern Miss allows an avg 5.2} -against South Alabama, 21 of 77 came on 1 carry. The other 11 carries averaged 5.1 yards, and 42% of his carries went for 2 yards or less, excluding his 2 yard TD run. {South Bama allows avg 4.3} 4.5 and 5.1 aren't terrible, but I would expect more against that competition. -against Texas AM, 49 of 107 came on 1 carry. The other 16 averaged 3.6. {Texas AM allows an avg 4.6} -against Auburn, 37 of 97 came on 1 carry. The other 18 averaged 3.3. {Auburn allows an avg 3.4} -against Kentucky, he had a great overall game, but 33% of carries went for 2 yards or less, with 25% going for 1 or less. LSU & UAB were both strong without exception.
His build is unique. I'm not sure his speed is unique. Watching him in the open field, it's pretty clear the defenders are not only able to outrun him, they're able to catch up to him before it's too late. He has to get creative to deal with them in breakaway situations. Wouldn't surprise me if he's more or less a 4.60 kind of guy. That's not an automatic fail, that's not what I'm saying. I'm just saying that a 220 pounder with 4.60 speed isn't necessarily a unique specimen. The guy I talk about with Marshall, Devon Johnson may be a unique specimen that way. We're talking a 6'1" & 245 lbs guy but he's got breakaway speed such that when he gets into the open...it's hard for guys to catch up with him. Not impossible, but hard. That's unique. When he was a 255 or 260 pound type of guy he ran low 4.70 or thereabouts. He's lighter, and I think he's a lot faster. I think he's solidly into the 4.5's.
Looking at Robinson's stats and comparing those to his highlight runs, I'm concerned about his vision and anticipation with how many runs go for 2 yards or less. I'd think with his physicality and level of power that he'd pick up 3 & 4 yards more often during those 2 yards and less runs, especially against lesser competition. Obviously I'm not suggesting anything conclusive, but it's definitely something I want to pay attention to when I start watching him play. I'm also not familiar with how good MSU's Oline is, so I don't wanna ding him if those runs are unavoidable. Curious your thoughts about it. I haven't watched Johnson yet so I'll have to get to that tonight. I don't think either of us place too much emphasis on long speed for backs IIRC. As long as there's a solid 10-20 yard burst, it wouldn't bother me if Johnson or Robinson ran a 4.7. The guy who intrigued me a lot last year was Ajayi. Don't forget to catch that Central Michigan kid when you have a chance- Rawls. I'd love another set of eyes on him I trust.
I've just started looking at the draft and running backs, and I have to say I'm very impressed. While I wouldn't rank him number one overall, I might say he looks amongst the best fits for us - the perfect foil to miller and Williams. He's on my short list right now. Love the "bowling ball" comparison lol. Here's a link to his game against LSU:
Please do not forget to take a good look at Devon Johnson out of Marshall. I like his talent better than Josh Robinson's.
What's the best way to watch his games? Draftbreakdown doesn't have any games up yet and Youtube just has brief highlight videos. I suppose that's a pertinent question regarding all prospects. What sites do you folks use for scouting?
Here's some research for you: http://www.thephins.com/forums/show...cts-for-2015&p=2448170&viewfull=1#post2448170 http://www.thephins.com/forums/show...cts-for-2015&p=2447548&viewfull=1#post2447548 http://www.thephins.com/forums/show...cts-for-2015&p=2447533&viewfull=1#post2447533 http://www.thephins.com/forums/show...cts-for-2015&p=2447497&viewfull=1#post2447497
Well, after looking further into RBs, I think Josh Robinson is on my short list because he is absolutely one of my favorites. His game against Kentucky is out of draft breakdown now, and it's a thing of beauty: The kid doing go down, has incredible vision in the middle of a pile, and is the perfect foil to Lamar Miller.
I just got wind of this Jeremy Langford guy from Michigan State. Is he someone that could be on Miami's radar?
he could be, we need a back for sure, I would like to get robinson, Ajayi, or abdullah if one is available in the third.
