I know this is a football message board, but I have to say the last couple weeks have been crazy for major league baseball. I dont' watch it nearly as much as I used to, but there have been some really good games, and I'm obviously crossing my fingers for a repeat of 1985.

Anyone else really into the playoffs this year?

Royals are hot right now. But eventually I think the same will happen as usual. The World Series is won by team that can pitch and hit home runs.

All of the individual games have been good but the series haven't, if that makes sense since in the LDS we got 2 sweeps and two 3-1 series wins.

Also can the announcers and media, for the love of the baseball gods, stop it with the "Big Game James" nickname. Please stop it.

Again if I am the Sox I aint giving that guy a contract over Lester, age be damned.....that guy isn't big game at all go look at his playoff numbers.....

There was only one "Big Game" nickname and it belongs to the guy retiring this year....

I didn't know Shields will be 33 in December. I'm starting to ease up on him a bit just based on his age.

I could understand that. There aren't any "big market" teams left in the playoffs nor are there any well known major major stars still playing or big story lines outside of KC has been bad forever and now they're good. I could see why an average baseball fan wouldn't care if their team isn't still playing (note I'm not calling you an average baseball fan, just talking in generals).

They're legislating excitement or of the game as well though. How long until "blocking the plate" costs someone a game in the post season?

Yup Baltimore is pretty much done now. After all no MLB team has ever come back from being down 3-0 to win a playoff series.

If you had told me that Kansas City would be one game from going to the World Series, I would have laughed at you. For the longest time I've supported two inept franchises. It's nice to see one finally get their act together.

Haha yes I was definitely trolling you with that post.

So dumb that the t-shirt was even an issue or was talked about at all but yeah it sort of reminds me of Gary Sheffield's "walking disaster" comments made about the Red Sox after Game 3 of the 2004 ALCS. With that being said, I'm always one to let sleeping dogs lay, no need to give the other team anything to use as motivation.

EDIT: Pedro just tweeted that Kenny Lofton's comments to the media about how the Yankees were going to sweep the Sox really pissed off the team and used that as motivation.

Really cool to see KC in the WS. I was born in 87, so they were always pretty much a joke in my lifetime. Like seeing some new faces.

STL and SF however? ****in switch it up National League.....jesus.

I wanted the Royals to win but Congrats to the SF Giants! I am a Tigers fan and they stunk it up once they got to the playoffs.

I was wanting the Royals to win for James Sheilds sake. But I found myself rooting for the Giants in game 7. Bumgarner was just so magical, you couldn't root against him.

    What an unbelievable performance

A big congrats to SF and their fans, nice run by KC as well.....

I gotta say though the Royals were way to aggressive at the plate, swinging at terrible pitches, no plate discipline whatsoever....MadBum in 5ip has what 60 pitches?!

That sequence to PĂ©rez in the 9th about summed it all up, every one of those pitches was way high....

Grats to the Royals who played a great series. They're going to be a scary team going forward.

Woohoo, the 3rd WS series in 5 years, the EVEN year DYNASTY!

Bumgarner topped Beckett's 2003 postseason which is hard for me to say as a Marlins fan.. Though i'd say the Marlins faced tougher competition in every round. Congrats to the Giants.

2003 Yankees would have been a MUCH different match-up for MadBum than KC......Beckett had a plus fastball and crazy movement then.....the kid was dominantttttttt back then....

Not to take anything away from the Giants or Bumgarner or even the Royals but yeah there's no comparison between the 2003 Yankees line up with the 2014 Royals.

I even heard people saying Bumgarner's relief outing was better than Pedro's back in 1999 against Cleveland but I don't think you can even compare those two either, especially considering Pedro was pitching hurt to boot, except for the fact that one was Game 5 of the ALDS and one was Game 7 of the WS.

That's not to take away from Bumgarner or even suggest he wouldn't have been as good against those line ups.

Well still all those innings Bumgarner pitched in 7 games is just insane..... I'm shocked he didn't get injured yesterday. But yeah, I'd say Beckett faced tougher batters including Barry Bonds in the first round, those Cubs weren't easy, they simply collapsed and we capitalized on it in the NLCS and the Yankees were very talented in 2003 and were favored.

Will be interesting to see how well Bumgarner pitches next year and if he gets hurt or slows down towards the end of the year.
