What you saw last week against the New England Patriots was the real Miami Dolphins. What you saw this week against Buffalo? Also, the real Miami Dolphins. We're the real deal pretenders of the NFL. We've been that way for 5 years. After a big week 1 win against the Patriots, don't act like you didn't know this Buffalo loss wasn't coming. Deep down, you knew... I know you didn't want to accept the outcome, you could see coming a mile away... You knew but you just didn't want to believe it. This is who we are. What's changed? Miami always shows up when you least expect it and vanishes when it matters. The Miami Dolphins are the greatest trolls of the NFL. They live to watch you chase money attached to fishing line, pulling it away just as soon as you believe it's yours. What you saw over the last two weeks is a microcosm of Miami Dolphins football. This is our season yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Truth is, Miami will probably be 3-1 at the end of week four. We'll probably beat Green Bay @ home after our bye week just to really raise the stakes and your hopes... Then Miami will lose back to back games @ Chicago and @ Jacksonville just to really confuse you and royally piss you off. We're an average football team. We're competing in 2014 for a .500 record. Why overreact to one loss when you know we've got about 7 more to go?
Buffalo just owns us right now. I'm not going to overreact to a bad game. It's silly. We weren't going 16-0.
I don't think about it in terms of quitting on the team... I like to think of it as everything is going according to plan.
How can you shrug this off when you've watched this team do this over and over? Every time they win a big game, or come up with some sort of multiple game momentum, they find some way to embarrass themselves and then ruin whatever momentum or goal they're building to. This has happened repeatedly, it's most certainly not a fluke.
Reminds me of the Patriot fans last week saying it was good to get the whole "19-0 perfect season" thing out of the way after week one. I know you're not being cocky or anything like that, it's just kind of popped into my head when I read your post.
Right. How long can you turn a blind eye on the overwhelming evidence, which has been compiled over the last five years before you accept the fact you're not jaded... The pattern and trends are real.
This was a bad situation. Buffalo and the fans were so amped up and emotional with all that's gone on up there lately they would have beaten a lot of teams today. The problem isn't the loss so much as the fact that the Dolphins mostly looked like they didn't belong on the same football field. I thought there was a decent chance we lost but hoped I was wrong. I didn't expect an embarrassment though. That's what brings back the 'more of the same' feeling.
One thing I didn't expect, is that for the first time since Jim Kelly was quarterback, the Bills will be on the top of the AFC East, even if it's just Week 2.
If you look at that week one win, it came down to special teams and running the football. Tannehill was almost a non-factor in both, and the defense played tough in both match-ups. Without the run game though, it's 2013 all over again with Miller stutter-stepping behind the line and collapsing when someone even looks at him funny. So honestly, I don't see much of a difference between the two weeks....the feeling afterwards sure is a whole lot different though.
LOL I just said to my son, "man them Dolphins kicked my *** today." His reply, "at least they kicked SOMEBODY'S ***!" True story.
Also overreaction...fans saying "don't worry we can beat the Chiefs and will beat the Raiders!" Sure it might happen, but remember when we "got to play the winless Bucs!" or "Just need to win 1 game against the Bills or Jets!" last year? Both of those ended well... Like the Chiefs and Raiders games are going to be easy, and without Moreno no less. They should win, but who knows. We've seen them f--k things up in miraculous ways before.
Chiefs game is not a gimme... they're a playoff team lol.. If we lose to Oakland we might as well wave the white flag.
I will admit that I really haven't been surprised by the results of either game the Dolphins have played this year. Beating NE last week wasn't a surprise because the Dolphins usually play them tough at home and beat them when they played in Miami in 2013. The Bills were the better team against the Dolphins last year and they are a better team right now than they were last year. So the loss today in Buffalo shouldn't have surprised anyone. I said going into this season that this years team would finish this year at 8-8. I just don't believe there is enough talent on this roster to be a legitimate playoff contender and I have never thought Philbin is a solid NFL head coach. I would take any of the other head coaches in the division over Philbin and not think twice about it. Even with the win over the Patriots last week, I still feel the Patriots will end up winning the AFC East division. The Bills and Jets will fight it out for second place and I think the Dolphins will probably finish last in the AFC East this year. It is what it is with the Dolphins. They come up with wins over teams they are expected lose too, only to turn around the next week and lose to a team they should beat. This is the way it has been for the past decade and I really don't see this season being any different. Hopefully if this team does end up 8-8 or worse, Ross will go out and hire a HC who can get this team to the next level. Mediocrity seems to be a staple of this organization and fans are just getting fed up with the status quo.
If you want to know why we lost to Buffalo, you need only ask how many times we ran the ball. Look at the history of this team over the last 5 years. When we rush the ball at least 25 times a games, we win. When we rush less than that, we lose. Does play action pass pass on 3rd down really fool a defense if all you've done is throw the ball all game? Lazor was right...the blame is soley on his shoulders
Three things happened this weekend which I feel are not a coincidence. 1. The New England Patriots came out and whooped up on the Minnesota Vikings in their own house. 2. The Miami Dolphins came out and got their tail whooped. 3. The Buffalo Bills played strong football for the second consecutive week. The narrative that weaves these three together is not a positive one for Miami. It suggests that the Patriots playing awful football in Week 1 is part of the whackiness handicappers have long observed about Week 1 regular season football, that the Dolphins were merely able to capitalize on that weirdness, and that the Bills are actually a solid team. The competing narrative would be that what we saw in Week 2 was the abberation. That would mean the Dolphins are the team that beat the Patriots, and that the Patriots are the team that lost to the Dolphins...and that the Bills are not the team that was able to crush the Dolphins but were rather able to temporarily capitalize on some sort of extraneous whackiness in the Dolphins' performance which isn't destined to be repeated. I'm leaning toward the former rather than the latter, but I'm sure some people would say that I always do. I would however answer that accusation by pointing to the Dolphins tendency to underperform the last five going on six years, and that I've yet to be 'pleasantly surprised' by their overall performance.
I think there's every reason to react as most people are, since it looks like Ryan Tannehill isn't developing in the right direction, and if he doesn't get his issues straightened out, we will have wasted a first-round pick on him, only to replace him with his backup at some point during his all-important third season. That isn't a pretty picture.
Anyone else think that this loss is mostly on special teams? I mean in the second half the dolphins were playing much better. and were doing good things. Scored a td got it closer, and were in a chance to make something happen again(like last week) but as soon as that td was retruned it kinda let all the wind out of the sails, you could see it on the sideline. after that Mike Wallace TD everyone was pumped up and ready to roll. I don't get why so many of you guys want to see Tannehill gone...like anyone else is gonna be better right now. I would understand if he had a game like Colin Kapernick had on sunday night....but even then most of you guys wouldn't have treated CK the same way. Ya'll need to go watch more than just Dolphins games, and maybe you will see that most QB's are making the same mistakes...even the great ones. Not EVERY pass is gonna be in perfect placement, but the difference with alot of other teams is that the receiver will still catch it if it hits them in the daamn hands, even if it was a little high or low.
All Dolphins fans are Charlie Browns and the Dolphins are the Lucy`s holding the football. We will never learn. Its who we are.
predicting the team to finish with around the same record they've finished with for the last half decade isn't overreacting.
This team needs to open a game with a TD. Run the ball at least 25 times. Quit going into halftime down by 10. Receivers need to catch the ball, and Tannehill needs throw the ball to receivers in stride. The OL needs to keep Tannehill on his feet and get a freakin interception once in a while. So there's plenty to fix on Offense, Defense, ST and coaching.
Think how a Browns fans feels or a Vikings fan or a Cardinals fan or a Lions fan or Chargers fan or a Jets fan or a Chiefs fan or a Texans fan or a Buffalo fan(except for right now) or a Bucs fan or a Jaguars fan, etc, etc, etc....feels. I'm not saying this should make us feel better. We're Phin fans and that's all we should care about, but just putting a little perspective here. It's just the way the NFL is. It's very difficult, but what are we going to do? I've been a Phin fan my whole life. I'm not about to change now. We just have to suck it up, enjoy the moments....as few and far between as they might be. Our time we'll come. I just hope I'm still alive when it does.
Miami has never been able to handle success. It's been that way since around 86. I fully expected them to lose to Buff and, in fact, would have been stunned had they beaten that amped up team.
