Read a aritcle on profootballtalk that Directv and the NFL are on the verge of a long term deal. While no numbers have been released and no contract signed, the numbers floating around are 1.3-1.4B per year thru 2021 or 2022. I'm sure AT&T is envolved with this since the are wanting to buy Directv.

fine with me. Love Direct TV, love Sunday ticket. just hope they don't raise the "discounted" price on sunday ticket because of this. $200/year for Sunday Ticket is a pretty good deal IMO, certainly cheaper than going to a sports bar.

hope there is something in there for more support of online streaming. Otherwise screw both of these companies.

Hate this....hate your forced to go through one company to watch out of market games. The biggest issue I have is that I have Comcast Cable. I get Cable TV and Cable Internet. To switch to Direct TV...and keep the same quality Internet I have..would cost an arm and a leg.

NFL should just do their own stuff...and let you buy it a game at a time.

Yeah I hate how the only way you can watch more than sometimes only 1 game at 1 o'clock is through Directv. This is the biggest sport in the country and you are forced to watch only a couple games every Sunday. You should be able to have more options.

For me the difference from what I paid for Comcast bundled to just internet means I pay twice as much for my DirectTV than I did with Comcast TV (once my promotions end). However, I get better service, better UI and guide, whole home dvr (had no dvr with comcast), and four tv access (as opposed to two).

Sunday Ticket should be shared among all cable providers just like MLB Extra Innings, NHL Center Ice and NBA League pass.

Very excited about this. I cannot get cable or broadband where I live, and I'm a very happy DirecTV customer. A little worried about what may go down once the merger with AT&T is done, but as long as they have Sunday Ticket, they have me as a customer. Dish Network is just comically awful by comparrison.

In a perfect world, yes, but it will never happen.

The dirty secret is that the NFL doesn't really want people using the Ticket, which is why they've licensed it to a single company who will never have the reach of cable.

The reason is that the network partners and the local affiliates are paying big dollars to get you to watch their network, their local stations with their ads.

That's why the Ticket blacks out any local games and abides by the blackout rules. in the other sports, the national tv packages are much smaller and more fragmented in that there are games every night on multiple networks. The packages for the other sports being everywhere don't affect the leagues negotiations because all national games are blacked out.

For the NFL, every game is a national game.

Damn this. I switched from DirecTV b/c it is horrible. The only reason why I had it to begin with was the Ticket, but even then it wasn't worth it. Uverse is 100x better. Wish other providers could get it...

in 16 years, I've never had a single problem with Direct TV that wasn't easily fixed. not sure if I'm the outlier, or some of you guys have just had bad luck with them.

Ive had Directv since the late 90's, never really had any issues with them. If this news is legit, I really dont have a problem with Directv. My beef comes from the product itself. Ive lost so much interest in the NFL over the past several years, today's game is so different than what and why I fell in love with. Im still tossing the idea of not renewing this year, but I may give it one more, just dont know yet.

It's not Directv, but a NFL issue for me. That said, I dont watch that much in the way of sports anymore, I have better things to do with my life.

No question. Nearly double is about right. I'm hoping AT&T can provide a reasonable internet option for existing DTV customers

I have Directv, It would be nice if other providers and the Nfl Sunday ticket. And also have the option of watching the team u want.
Nfl should open it up to others, What's the problem? They are making tons of money, and now they are charging performers to perform at the Superbowl, Such Bull

I have DirectTV and don't have any complaints except the price. But when I'm camping at the beach, I can watch football. Which you can't do with cable.

Sometimes I go to Costco and get a 50" TV and take it to the beach for the weekend. Then return it. Is that bad?

My only complaints with DTV are:

-The poor Internet bundling options (the AT&T merger looks like it's going to resolve this and offer a bundled high speed plan........like 7 years too late)
-WatchESPN/ESPN3 is not available for DTV customers.
-The delay in the IR remotes (This has also recently gotten upgraded with the new RF equipment and remotes)

    The biggest benefits are:
    -NFL
-Customer service. They always thank me and reward me for being an 18 year loyal customer. If I call and ask for a discount, they usually make it happen.
-2 houses.....1 account. We have 8 receivers spread through 2 houses. All on the same bill/account. They're ok with it. It makes the poor bundling options tolerable.

Yeah it sucks, but aren't all the commercials basically airing the same ads across the country. I remember when I used to have Sunday Ticket you would see the same advertisements for every game.

Local ads are replaced with Directv ads or the directv green screen. You know the one that says "You're watching sunday ticket, only on directv!!!" or something like that.

Every eyeball taken away from the network's owned channel or it's affiliate is a loss of value for the product.

By and large, I've been happy with them the last 11 years. And I know people who have TWC who hate it, are always complaining about their crap equipment, etc. etc.

Plus, I've never had to pay near full price for Sunday Tix. Each August, I call them and politely remind them how much I give them each month, and that I'm offended that they give it away for free to new customers, and want to charge me some $330. Once I get through the initial customer service rep (who really isn't authorized to help much) and on to the customer retention people, I always get a deal. This year, I'm getting it for $60 total ($10/month x 6). Including Max. In other years, when my contract has been up, I've gotten it for free. Most I've paid in recent years was like $120 I think, but it's usually a lot less.

DirecTV has as much success as it has - in large part - to being the only place to get SundayTicket. They'd lose a lot of customers if they didn't, and that's why they pay through the nose to get it. I also remind them of this fact every August when I call and tell them my wife is ready to drop them like a bad habit if not for my Dolphins addiction, and SundayTicket. Works every time, and I encourage all of you DTV customers to do the same if you haven't already discovered this. At the very least, you should never pay full price for it!

I have never really had a problem with Directv.

Its just that I, like many others, have moved on to other sources of television entertainment like Netflix, Hulu, etc. The only reason for me to continue with Dtv is the ticket, and to be honest, for the first time in a long time, I have contemplated doing without. If I could find a decent online source to stream games through my tv, I would drop Dtv in a heartbeat.

No fault of their own, other than better technologies surpassing them.

This... I've been distancing myself for a long time from the cable companies. Now I only purchase high-speed internet and run Roku's and XBox to watch TV and movie content. Also have an outdoor OTA set up to watch the mainstream TV and local news. I just suck it up, not worth dealing with the prices in general.

But on the topic itself.... the ATT and DTV merger probably should have kept quiet, but the fact that ATT had a contingency on the merge based on DTV getting the NFL deal without a doubt drove the price up. Will be interesting to see the cap figures when its all said and done.
