Tiger withdrew his name for the Ryder Cup today. IMO, that's a great decision. Tiger has just been plain and simple awful this year. His doctors told him to shut it down for a while. Doubt we see him again until his tournament in Dec(?). Get well Tiger, cause here comes your replacement in Rory.
good news for team USA. Gets it out of the way now. Now Watson can pick the right guys based on merit. He would have been pressured to pick him if Tiger wanted to play I reckon. And Tiger wouldn't have had to prove he could play by participating in any tournaments either. I think team USA could have a nice underdog role next month. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. On paper they are definitely outmatched. Hopefully Watson doesn't pick Stricker.... he's an assistant captain anyway. If Keegan can show something in the next few tourneys he'll be in based on how well he played last time... paired with Mickelson.. dynamic duo. I'd kinda like to see Hunter Mahan get in after what happened four years ago in Wales. They need some characters on this team to rally them... Furyk is about as vanilla as it gets.
Down 10-6... not looking good... but that's a magical score line isn't it? ****ing NBC coverage has been awful though. They only show European players when they make a shot, 9 times out of 10.... and then they start off the clip with "just a moment ago"... yeah we know you can't show everything ****ing live... but don't tip us off with "just a moment ago" because we all know what's going to happen... ugh! NBC coverage actually worse than how the US played in foursomes.
Rory's putt on 17th on Friday, and Poulter's chip-in on 15th on Sat...sealed the deal. USA continues its trend! Not good enough!
Furyk needs to retire from the Ryder Cup. He has cost the team dearly. Pathetic in the clutch. The new wave of players will take over. Reed Spieth Horschel. Guys that can match Euros passion for the event. Euros play out of the rough was sensational. No wins in foursomes. And some poor decisions by Watson.
Michelson has called out Watson, as team captain, answering the "what should be done to improve the US team moving forward and get back to a winning formula?", he said we need to go back to how Azinger did it with the pods system in 2008 (last US win). He then said, I have no idea why we strayed away from that. For a guy that flew to Scotland separate from the other 11 players who flew in on the same plane, he needs to take a good hard look at himself before he opens his trap. I think the captain is important but it's not the be all end all of the Ryder Cup. It comes down to the golfers and making the putts to win. Europe has a better team right now with better players. You can complain all you want about how the captain decides which way things should go, who is teamed with whom etc etc, but in the end, the players have to go out and win their matches. US team is lacking in talent. The Euros have what four of the top five players in the world? McIlroy, Stenson, Rose, Garcia? Having said that, I'd go with either Azinger or Couples for 2016. And hopefully a healthy Tiger Woods, a clean Dustin Johnson, and a healthy Jason Dufner can make a difference. Put them with Michelson (if he's healthy and his head is straight), Watson, Horschel, Reed, Walker, Fowler, Spieth, Kuchar and Bradley. But it's going to be interesting how the rookies (Walker, Reed and Spieth) progress over the next two years. Especially a guy like Patrick Reed. Is he the real deal, or is he another Jeff Overton?
