I thought this would be a great idea for a thread... you ask which movie that's currently playing in the theaters you should go see. And someone else (or multiple people) gives their opinion.

    I go first of course...

Which movie should I see on Saturday August 16th?

    1. Guardians of the Galaxy
    2. Into the Storm
    3. Lucy

I'm leaning towards Guardians of the Galaxy although I'm generally not a big fan of the Marvel movies lately.

no I haven't but lucy seems like a lame idea. And Guardians was the ****. And I'm saying this as someone who hasn't been a fan of the Marvel movies.

*I haven't seen any of these three movies*

    1. Into the Storm. I like disaster flicks and I liked the plot summary. However, the 21% on Rotten Tomatoes isn't encouraging. Only 54% of the audience liked it (RT). According to one review snippet, it's a step above Sharknado... ouch. And it has a 6.4 on IMDB. So... If you're in the mood to gamble?

    2. GotG- I don't know anything about GotG. Just watched the trailer. I read that the plot is almost identical to The Lego movie. I didn't see that one either but people liked it... Trailer seemed stupid... The talking Raccoon seems like the best character. And Treebeard's cousin (twice removed), makes an appearance. The basic plot kind of reminded me of Mass Effect 2 a little bit. Bunch of renegades get together and save the galaxy type deal.

    3. Lucy- Seems like a cool concept, but ultimately will be cheapened and watered down for more action.

Absolutely loved Guardians. Its awesome. Highly recommend.

Haven't seen the others. Would like to see Lucy on dvd later on. To me, Into the Storm looks awful.

Haven't seen the other two films. But Guardians was the best film I have seen all summer. Love it.

Awful. I can't believe the guys who make this trash still get work... With a property as valuable as the TMNT, you would think the studio would hire capable producers, writers, directors to make something good enough to stretch a decade like the other superhero movies and milk it for all it's worth... But you would be wrong.

Original 90's turtles movie still reigns supreme.

I saw Guardians... i thought it was just okay. Great effects. But to me it seemed like they were confused between making a comedy vs a straight sci fi action flick. And if they wanted it to be both equally, they could have made it funnier than it was. I can have a quirky sense of humor at times, so there was one scene where I was the only one in the theater that laughed. Can't give specifics without spoiling it.

Everyone has a different taste of course. For me, Guardians is absolutely what I want to see. That mix of smart and goofball just works for me completely. The adventure/comedy is my favorite genre and its been dormant for a long time. So much fun.

I was also the absolute only one in the theatre laughing at one particular one liner. In my case, a remark from Quill to Rocket. Had to be just the right age to catch it, I think.

I ended up seeing Lucy today... thoroughly enjoyed it. I actually liked it better than Guardians.. but both are worth seeing in the theaters.

I absolutely want to see it too, but I likely wont get to the theatre again before the 3rd Hobbit. Definately want to see Lucy when it comes on a free preview weekend of one of the movie channels though.

Do tell... I liked the premise, but I had a feeling it was going to be watered down for the sake of action.

no not watered down IMO. It was shorter though than your average flick these days... IIRC a shade less than 90 minues.. There are a number of action scenes where if I were viewing it at home, I'd rewind and play again in slow motion because they were just amazing. Scarlett Johansson is one of the few actresses that could pull that type of role off. And I just love Morgan Freeman. He adds a certain credibility to any movie he's in. Whether it's Shawshank Redemption or just a small narrative in War of the Worlds. If he says the world is flat, in that voice of his, you have a tendency to believe him.

I also think when it's an action movie that has scenes filmed on the streets of Europe or in Asia, there's a certain authenticity present.. it's a bit hard to describe. If you ever saw the movie Ronin, you'd know what I was talking about. There's a guy in this movie who kind of looks and acts like Gary Oldman from the Professional. Except he's the Asian version.

I read a lot of reviews about Lucy and it seemed the main drawback was that it wasn't believable to some people. In this day and age, where IMO movies aren't what they used to be, I didn't mind the fantasy theme at all.
