I have a mosquito, tick, fly issue in my yard. Where I live is the Lyme disease capital. I don't think there is a ton you can do about ticks, other than be over cautious and always check.

But the flys and Mosquitos...there is a ton of crap out there...zappers, candles, traps...I am looking to kill off the population here.

What do you all use? I am leaning towards this Flowtron zapper. Highly rated, and pretty cheap. Hamacher has a solar zapper but I am skeptical.

    Maybe some tiki torches too.
I was looking into mosquito magnets, but they are expensive and poorly reviewed.

    Any Suggestions?

I usually just move the dead hookers body to a neighbors house a few blocks away.

Yeah, its a long nite but no bugs for the rest of the summer, so its worth it.

    Hope that helps.

First question would be, do you know where they're coming from? Standing water? River? Pond? What sort of scenario are we talking about?

The woods, I live in the freakin sticks. Lots of natural and protected land. And I live near the ocean and bay too...it's bug heaven. They're everywhere here. On the bay, at the park, at the soccer field..,and worst...my backyard.

Man are you going to have a hard time finding an empty space for the hooker. That's some prime hooker burial grounds.

I think I'm going for the Flowtron. 2k + reviews on amazon, and over a 4 star rating...that's a strong endorsement.

You can use a yard repellant for the ticks. If that doesn't work just try putting on your best spikey hair and talking to them about how ****ed up New Jersey people are.

How do I kill bugs? By any means necessary! If it flies, it dies. If it crawls on walls it falls. Ill take a damn blowtorch if I have to but damn if I dont hate bugs, especially ones that insist on doing "fly by's" (you know, that annoying thing where they just buzz right by your ear). Ive killed bugs with shoes, tissue boxes, dog toys, cd/dvd boxes, hammer, cell phone covers, soda/beer cans, remotes, napkins, a plain old fashion clap, the swat (where it falls down) and stomp (to finish the job). I dont really care how it dies but hell the little buger is getting away.

Im sure there has to be a more effective way, but there is a personal satisfaction to stomping or clapping an attacking bug.

Pagan posted the Bug A Salt on Facebook, and I ordered one on Amazon a few days later. Waiting for its arrival. I think you of all people may enjoy this.

half of my backyard is wetlands, so we get a ton of mosquitos, luckily not too many ticks - one or two a year. I've spent money on the mosquito CO2 repellents - complete waste of money. After several years, the best value is to just get two $30 bug zappers from Home Depot, put one in front yard, one in back yard. THere's no way to get rid of all the mosquitos if you're close to woods or wetlands, but the zappers are the best value IMO.

another option is to put up a bat house to try and attract bats. each bat can eat several hundred mosquitos per night. I tried, but only got nasty bugs to live in the bat house.

best tip, when the sun starts going down, head inside. that's like a dinner bell for mosquitos.

One funny consistency of home ownership for me is that bats follow me wherever I go. This home has them too. Cigars are a decent repellent, but obviously not kid friendly. So at night when I light a cigar, citronella candles, and turn on my portable off repellents as sun sets, I see the bats start swooping. I probably dont need a bat house, I think I have a decent population. But yeah, I ordered. Flowtron zapper. Also got the therma cell portable adapters as they are very highly rated across many ratings. Because it was cheap too, I picked up a solar zapper at Home Depot also. The ratings aren't great, but I'm going to throw some lure in there, and we will see.

Thanks for contributing and keep them up!

had a bat in my house a few nights ago, took me forever to get him out the door. He made about 50 circles in my family room, every time flying right at my head, turning on a dime right before he hit me.

I don't really need a PBP of each bug kill. Never the less, thanks for contributing.

On the actual topic, the best you can do is to try and make your yard itself unsuitable for bugs to live in. Find out what the specific bugs you have problems with like environment wise and try to change the actual living ecosystem in your yard.

It sounds like work but any other solution is a band aid.

Have FinD call them up and leave them voicemails asking to come over and if he can bring his cats. They will eventually get sick of it and move out.

I'm firing on all cylinders. I have the Flowtron (1.5 acre model) centrally located. I have a solar zapper working too. I have thermacell portable devices for when we are outside...and the bugasalt for random encounters. Bring it!
