http://touch.sun-sentinel.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-80641949/ Another player that may take his game to another level. When you train right, and you get your body right, the odds are so much greater for improvement.. So we better take notice of this kid.
Image of the "Speed Package" from last year. Note that Odrick was in on this play and not OV, but I think Erik Frenz has some other screen shots on his AFC East Blog with OV in it.
OV was "Baby Squid" going into last season, a player who made an impact but not in his base job Shelby is the "Forgotten Man among Dolfans", to me he fits on the inside on the speed packages Guy has been nothing but rock solid for us
He's naturally a big dude, now that's he's in better condition, that get off will get better, that closing speed will get better..it's all good for him, doing the right things as a pro.
I've tended to disregard twitter save for excited utterances, however last yr Mr Forgotten mentioned "..dammit eat a cheeseburger.." in re Kraken. Perhaps it was the saying of a newb to a way of life, perhaps not.
Wake is the extreme, his idea of cheating is probably a stack of pancakes. Shelby needed this, Shelby's body needed this..if he wants to be better than average, if he wants to make his money that can set him up for life, then he needed to do this, every damn dolphin should be training like wake or with wake, if they had any balls that is.
I don't know why more guys don't work their butts off and try to maximize their physical gifts. And talking about 4th quarter Wake reminds me of reading about Rice saying he would wear down DB's so he could dominate them late in the game. Wake still looked pretty fast the last play against Cincy, and they spent a lot of time on the field.
because a lot of them have been babied and spoiled all their lives, parents counting on the fact the kid has a golden ticket, allowing him to do what he wants..that's why a lot of these players aren't that smart when leaving college, academics in a household that has a pro potential kid in it doesn't always take prescedent...jmo.
You and I disagree about Olmen having a bit of fat around them, for me, they absorb constant blows, they need the padding. DLmen however totally different, in a way, more about explosiveness, more about violent hands and moves. Forgotten has always produced, perhaps a bit of Kraken's pixie dust rubs off on him
Could you point me to these screenshots? I looked through his twitter and searched his blog but no dice.
I'd say this holds true for most kids these days, not just the physically talented athletes. whether it's academics or athletics, very few people are truly willing to push themselves to their limits to live up to their full potential.
http://bleacherreport.com/users/6678-erik-frenz It looks like he may be done with the AFC East blog, but is still posting actively. He also writes about the AFC East for Boston.com.
Shelby will be an interesting case, because he's RFA after this season. Obviously, we all want him to be great, but he's also clearly 4th on the depth chart. If he turns it on this season, I could definately see him getting tendered and traded, since we simply can't pay everyone on the DL huge money.
Scroll down to the write-up against the Jets: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ernons-breakout-season-for-the-miami-dolphins - Note this has Odrick in where Shelby is playing in the screen shot I already posted - those two, Shelby and Odrick, seem interchangeable in this package. Not necessarily the "Speed Package" but other packages Miami used last year that were creative. Note the author of this is alen1, remember him? http://blogs.thescore.com/nfl/2013/09/30/how-the-dolphins-are-creating-defensive-mismatches/ Stuff from CK as well. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-miami-dolphins-can-use-dion-jordan-in-week-2
That's the goal, find the acorns, develop them, then if your draft picks are getting most of the reps, see if you can move them for a pick.
No problem, I know there's some screen shots from that Patriots game though w/the "Speed Package" somewhere out there. I think there are plenty of ways Miami can go about getting to the QB and disguising blitzes, etc. The main worry to me is still the run defense and whether or not replacing Soliai with Earl Mitchell and switching out LB spots is really a sounds solution. I think Earl Mitchell, and Philip Wheeler returning to his normal OLB spot that he played while in Oakland, both stand a better chance to fit well than moving Misi and Ellerbe. Reshad Jones rounding back into 2012 form would also help.
I think that Shelby is kind of moving more into a situation where he's like Jared Odrick was in 2012. Last year he seemed to play a lot 6 techniques in the base package when Wake went out, and it seems now they're looking at him for defensive tackle-type work in speed packages. I believe there was also a report that he gained some weight this off-season, which seems to put him in the 280-290 pound range.
This is where the Cap comes back to haunt a roster, you pay them while you train them, by the time they get competent and proficient they FA eligible Disagree with sabermetrics in football, do think MLB's approach to free agency and capturing value prior to paying big money to players SHOULD be a factor
