It continues. RECAPUS: Cortland Finnegan made statements to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald to the effect of his old defensive coordinator Tim Walton being "atrocious" and "in over his head". He said everything about him from technique to fundamentals to game plans was all bad. A source close to the Rams phoned up Mike Florio in response and said Finnegan has nobody to blame for his poor play except himself. The source shared the Finnegan kept increasingly blaming his poor play on the eye injury and cast doubt that was really the case, even pointing out that Finnegan told the Rams he was going to have surgery on the eye so that they'd put him on IR, and then never had the surgery. The source said it's only a matter of time before Finnegan starts chaffing against his new coaching staff and blaming them for his poor play as well. Finnegan didn't like that story and now he blames Mike Florio, rather than the source close to the Rams who told Florio those things. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...he-was-talking-about-tim-walton-not-the-rams/ He physically threatened Florio which is kind of funny and just even more idiotic. Two wrongs didn't make a right so it appears Finnegan thinks three wrongs will do it. Yes I absolutely expect the Dolphins to call him shortly and have a discussion with him that results in his agreement that he will not comment on the subject any further.
Finnegan really needs to just shut up at this point and have thicker skin. If you don't want people twisting and contorting your words, then don't say anything. Although it would be funny if Florio was a secretly trained NSA agent or something and one-timed Finnegan if they ever got into a fight. It would make the off season more interesting.
I told people that as an NFL fan in Nashville, I was VERY familiar with Finnegan, and he is a straight-up punk. I was chastised for it. So, this issue between him and Florio doesn't surprise me at all. I hope the guy grows up because he actually can be a very good CB, but I'm not counting on that happening. I was very disappointed when we signed him. I hope this ends well... but, I don't think it will.
You don't say sh&$ about another mans profession..if you didn't play well, then just shut up, and ball..I'm sure he didn't mean the rams organization when he was but still, there's no reason to throw another man under the bus.
I also live in Middle Tn and yeah Finnegan is a punk. However, he is the kind of guy that you hate on other teams, but like his attitude when he is playing for your team. At one time he was an excellent CB for the Titans. Don't expect him to be that good now, but I do think his attitude will bring a little swagger to our defense. I just hope it doesn't cost in ill timed penalties and such. Overall I think, or at least hope, he is more of an asset the detriment to the Phins.
I think this is exactly right. Cortland Finnegan shouldn't have thrown Tim Walton under the bus like he did and because he did it in such a way as to be uncommonly vicious, he should have expected retribution. That retribution wouldn't even necessarily come from anyone connected with Walton. That retribution likely came from someone disconnected who was just incensed that Finnegan would say things like that, and decided to fire back. So now Finnegan is continuing to be a punk and trying to fight Mike Florio for reporting it. Truth is if he'd just STFU this situation wouldn't be happening.
Wait... Florio gets no blame in this? Both stories are written to cast Finnegan negatively instead of simply reporting the story objectively. Compare these: Which sounds likes reporting and which was baiting both sides? Florio took shots at Finnegan from the opening statement by bring Andre Johnson into, then turned it into Finnegan attacking the entire Rams team, then went on about a medical issue he had no real knowledge of, then further made it personal between them. THEN Florio suggests that Finnegan may have suggested that he might do something. GTOH.That's Dirty pool by Florio. I agreed with this guy: Florio should be called out for not reporting, but guiding opinions. Finnegan isn't blameless, he should have kept his mouth shut in both instances, but Florio is clearly baiting both sides and using his position to impact both.
If Finnegan's statements regarding Walton were less ridiculous and less vicious than they actually were I might be inclined to agree with you. But the fact of the matter is Finnegan was asked if he was used wrong by his defensive coordinator last year and maybe if that's why he struggled, and Finnegan not only took the excuse but exclaimed it by absolutely TRASHING the former defensive coordinator. And whether Finnegan likes to think so or not, by attacking the techniques taught, the game plans and fundamentals, he's also attacking all of the coaches that were responsible for teachning techniques, helping build the game plans, and being fundamentally sound. He's just trying to put up the "I was just keepin it real" excuse, and it ain't flying with me.
I'm not defending Finnegan. It was clearly idiotic to say those things in the manner he did, or to contact Florio directly about the comments. That said, Finnegan didn’t slam the entire Rams organization though. He didn't slam Walton as a person or DB coach. He specifically slammed Walton's schemes and ability as a DC. The fact that Walton was one and done with the Rams as their DC speaks for itself. Finnegan even said that Walton was "a great defensive backs coach", but that he was in over his head as a DC. Florio conveniently left that part out as it didn't suit the way he chose to portray this story. No innocent parties here.
Finnegan is one year insurance in case Taylor and Davis can't step up. I'm not too worried about it. He was always likely to be cut after this season either way.
I see no issue. Florio likes to badger people on his site then hold his hands up like a NBA player after a foul. If someone calls you up and threatens to tune you up.....you asked for it. The words by Finnegan bounced off a number of sites. Somehow....Florio was the only one that got called. Some people aren't political and want to give you the Peyton Manning answer or be the bigger man. Some people are going to take issue and call your personal phone about it. Finnegan is obviously the latter.
Did you guys see Bill Simmons reaction when the Miami Heat picked up their guy in the draft? The hate was seething. Florio holds a similiar level of hatred towards Miami and continually bashed the franchise and took sides during the Ingonito drama. F*** these national talking heads and media blowhards, they all get a hard on when something bad happens in Miami and are not ashamed about doing it. About time one of our players actually stood up and said something. And you know what else, playing like a bunch of pu$$ies for the past decade has won us j**cksh*t. It's about time the team challenged the status-quo and grew a pair. The sad thing is that half the fanbase would side against the team as proven time and time again during the manufactured Martin saga and the continual bashing of everything the team, owner and personnel do.
I have to defend Finn on one point. People trashing him for saying "Don't call me" after telling him to grt the full story next time. Florio and others saying "Idiot how do we get the real story then". Perhaps through his agent you media blowhard.
Well, Finnegan was a bad acquisition so it's important to prove it before the first snap of the season.
Not relevant. He actively bashed the team and drew conclusions the DAY the Martin information leaked out. He was steadfast in his bashing of Incognito and the organization and didn't take in to account the NFL culture or balance it out with any facts until it became clear, beyond any reasonable doubt that both parties were partially at fault.
I don't doubt that Florio was being a sarcastic ******* at the time Finnegan was talking to him and I'm certain that the tone of the conversation is nothing like he portrayed it. Florio was almost certainly not as dryly level headed as he portrayed. But, that doesn't absolve Finnegan of being a known dense mofo.
Hold on let me update the official list of media members that allegedly hate our guts. So we now got... Jason Cole Omar Armando Schefter Dave Hyde Mike Silver Mike & Mike La Canfora Adam Beasley Heath Evans Evan Silva Mike Florio Peter King Adam Schein Alex Marvez Pete Prisco did I miss anyone?
Hate OUR guts? Why do you still think you're a Dolphins fan? You're not. Maybe you can be more of a general NFL fan but a Dolphin fan you are not.
The whole "Mike Florio hates ______" never passes the smell test. He has absolutely no reason to hate any team. He's not really a fan of any of the teams. He doesn't feel some sort of long running rivalry against some team. He's not secretly a Jets fan or Patriots fan and therefore it would make sense why he hates the Dolphins. That's why this situation is different from Bill Simmons, who is pretty much an unabashed Celtics fan where the Celtics and Heat have had a strong rivalry over the last half decade or so. The very idea that he would dislike a set of laundry colors is absurd to the point of laughable. The Dolphins have had two different owners, three or four different general managers (depending on how you count Parcells) and five different head coaches over the last decade...yet I've heard the same crying over and over again, Florio hates the Dolphins. Why? Everything about this team changes every three years. He hates the laundry? He hates the city for some unknown reason? Reality is it's just fans crying about nothing. He has hot button issues he tends to feel strongly about. Those are consistent. If you have a team currently run by people that continually push those buttons, he's going to point it out. But that can go either way too, and the Dolphins have been the beneficiaries of his feelings on certain issues as well. But the crying continues unabated.
Just speaking the truth. You're not a Dolphins fan, at all. I don't know why you continue to lie to yourself everyday. The we, us, our stuff has to stop. Like I said, you can probably be more of a general NFL fan. Enjoy more of the sport.
You're right Florio doesn't specifically hate the Dolphins. Just google "Mike Florio hates" and see how many teams fans claim he hates. But that's not the point. He makes his living airing other peoples dirty laundry. Has he ever broken a legit story or even done any reporting of his own? He regurgitates other reporters stories with more sensationalism. PFF has always been the National Inquirer of sports. I don't like Finnegan calling out his former coach but I have no problem him taking Florio to task.
Mike Florio hates....legitimate journalism. Many sports writers today do. They are for the most part the TMZ of sports. Florio & LaCanfora are two of the more egregious offenders. I'm absolutely flabbergasted that a guru from this site TIRELESSLY defends them at EVERY turn, no matter how wrong they've been in the past.
