    Show me that smile again...

Smoking a Nub Cameroon, with a Flying Fish Farmhouse Summer Ale.

Nubs are surprisingly long smokes, and claim to exist primarily in the sweet spot.

I have such a rushed, interrupted existence between work and kids...I'm afraid to smoke anything great lately.

Flying Fish, from Olympia, WA! Nice.

To me, the Nub is the both the canniest and most cynical marketing ploy ever in the world of cigars. Full price for half a cigar? Pass.

I tasted one once, and it was nasty to me. Then again, after forty years smoking cigars, I have very particular tastes.

That said—smoke what you like, and like what you smoke.

I smoked a Cuban Punch RS11 from 1999 this afternoon; beautiful smoke. Straightforward tobacco with earthy, barnyard notes and mild spice in the retrohale.

I smoked a Cuban Por Larrañaga Petit Corona from 2006 yesterday. This is truly my desert island smoke; creamy, medium body with loads of flavor complexity and nice vanilla and cocoa undertones. I only have half a box of these left, and I both relish and regret every one I smoke.

I feel the same way about the box of pigs you scored me. JD never came out with a similar stick? I like the Gordito a lot for a more common smoke.

Admittedly, I have a rather clumsy palate, with occasional moments of clarity. I picked up the Nubs on special at cigar dot com, 10 for like 45 bucks. Figured it was a decent stick for half hearted, rushed smokes. I will say, they do burn slow. One little stick can go 60-90 minutes.

And Flying Fish is bottled and brewed in Somerdale Nj. They headquartered in WA?

Smoking a Grand Cru #2 now.

Ah, sorry, I was thinking of Fish Brewery.

JD still makes pigs; they're just hard to find. I'll dig around. Davidoff makes a fine cigar, the GC #2 is one. I like a good Connecticut wrapper, and they're making a sort of comeback after years of being shunted aside for darker, stronger wrappers.

    Famous is having a sale, $40 off on a $150 purchase. http://www.famous-smoke.com/holiday/

Just say no, Alex. Cigars are a gateway drug to floral button ups and fedoras......... and an endless quest for Peruvian Flake's encore performance.

ahhhh, well since you've already had an intro, feel free to dust off a Joya de Nicaragua. That should ease your transition into the stronger stuff.

Thompson is a marketing company disguised as a cigar company. They just put a cookie on your computer which expires in 2086.

Famous Smokes, Mike's Cigars, Cigars International, Best Cigar Prices.com are good, reputable dealers.

No, I wouldn't recommend the maduro Macanudo. You said you wanted a beginner's intro.

I am a cigarette smoker so my instinct is to inhale. Can't do cigars. But, being in Canada, we can get the Cubans. When are you guys going to lift that damn embargo anyway, and are Cubans really that taboo? I mentioned I'd send a few to an American client of mine and his eyes lit up and went wide. He also mentioned he wouldn't take any responsibility if the UPS package was inspected.

    Really? Still that bad?

Cigar dot com has a great deal where you pick your bundle of 10 for $49, 2 or more bundles are $39... So 20 sticks for $78 bucks. And they have a taste of everything almost. A few Cohiba and Montes(non Cuban of course) a couple La Auora Preferidos, and then your Rockys, Don Pepins, 601..,tons of selections.

So I loaded up on some great cigars for while working around the yard, or to give to guests...and I had the chance to try some heavily advertised stuff I usually balk at. The first was by Vegas 5, the Miami. Really nice I thought. My palate is far too clumsy to give an accurate detail, but it hit my criteria. Burned nice, smelled nice, drew nice, big plumes of smoke, didn't taste like fire, no cotton mouth.

I also picked up a Gurkha, which I was skeptical about. The Centurian. Another nice smoke, especially at $3.99. Now I'm having a Man O'War, the Ruination. Again, not bad. This one isn't phenomenal, but it's okay.

Had a Preferido Connecticut while grilling Sunday. Niiiice.

    Anyone else?

I still have 2 Prefs Connecticut (Sapphires), original release left. Treasuring them; love that stick.

I've had pneumonia, so that's cramped my style for the last month or so.Next one I smoke will need to be mild.

I'm dying to try the new Joya Red; supposed to be a mild-medium smoke from them, for a change. Also the My Father Connecticut, also a mild change of pace for the brand. And I haven't had an Hechicera yet, by local babe Grace Sotolongo.

Seth, TheCigarAuthority.com features reviews by my friend Barry Stein, one of the most knowledgeable smokers I know. Check them out.

I know the box press is one of the available 601s...green I think. There were 2 others. If one was the blue, I'll definitely pick it up. I don't think they break the bank by any means either.

Have you had or heard of Nat Sherman? I read an article on the brand and picked up a stick. Haven't tried it yet.

And at least you're missing time during the blazing heat. For me, this is prime cigar season. Get yourself right and keep a can of coke nearby for that smoke.(see how much I learned from you?)

Nat Sherman is one of the great old brands.

601 greens are nowhere near as good as blues.
