Anyone know when was the last time he played football? Another UM basketball player trying his hand at TE in the NFL. http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2014/st...basketball-player-erik-swoope-enter-nfl-draft Could be a nice pick UD free agent pick up if he can show he can play. edit: apparently has no football experience at all. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/cane...etball-player-erik-swoope-to-enter-nfl-draft/
I believe he's going to play for UM this year so he's not really draft eligible or anything. On the other hand I hear that 99% of the drills Larry Webster of Bloomsburg did at his pro day were TE drills. On paper he's virtually IDENTICAL to Jimmy Graham, right down to what they were best at on the basketball court (both of them legendary shot blockers).
apparently because he worked out for Denver, he is no longer eligible to go back to UM for football. On the other hand...I would rather see Patric Young play football for the Dolphins. take a look at the video I found of him running routes. http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcspo...oung-working-out-on-the-football-field-video/
Ah ok so he has to come out this year. The interesting thing about him working out for the Broncos is that their tight end coach had experience with Antonio Gates in San Diego and he was the guy who vouched for Julius Thomas as a similar basketball to football convert. So when he's onto a guy I think you pay attention. But the guy I like is Larry Webster. I just don't know how he looks catching the football. If he looks atrocious then I say keep him at defensive end because he looked compelling there.
Larry Webster definitely looks intriguing but it seems like he is more polished at DE than at TE at this point. Only has two catches during his days at Bloomsburg. Both for TD's though. So I guess he can at least catch. 4.5 speed. Very intriguing indeed.
I don't know if that's really a factor to be honest. He played football one year at Bloomsburg. He finished playing basketball and still had a year of football eligibility left so he gave it a try. I wouldn't say he stepped out of that year with a whole lot of sunken costs or knowledge capital at any particular position. He's still a blank slate. He probably learned more in a week of Shrine practice than he did the year at Bloomsburg. He certainly looked different in the Shrine game than he had at Bloomsburg. Jimmy Graham was all but a blank slate coming out of UM. He played a year as a pure red zone specialist at tight end. Basically run out to the goal post, pretend you're sitting under the net and wait for the ball to come to you. One thing that made Graham who he was though was his brain. He's a very smart player. You could always tell he was intelligent and he learned quickly. If I have steered toward Webster at DE a little more it's because of his background. His dad was a defensive tackle for 11 or 12 years in the NFL, former 3rd round pick of the Dolphins and won a Super Bowl with the Ravens. I don't know if Webster is as purely intelligent as Graham (I have zero clue, he could be smart or dumb for all I know) but even if he's not intelligent the football background with his dad can substitute for that in some ways.
