On a more serious note, this an interesting article as to why the Eagles likely cut their ties with him:

he is close with a guy from the cribs who is being investigated for murder of a 14 year old....i doubt the patriots will make that mistake again

I expect the Jets to look hard at him. Maybe New England. St. Louis, Baltimore (Joe Flacco) are other options in my opinion.

Unlike Aaron Hernandez, DeSean Jackson has never been arrested or accused of a violent crime. Even the article stated that he has no connectiomn to the crimes except knowing the two men accused, one of whom was acquitted.

Unless there is something else that the Eagles know that wasn't reported, there has to be something more.

I'm sure we won't but I'd consider signing him. He has never been in trouble beyond a marijuana charge and is active in the Philly community with anti-bullying programs and such. You'd hope he gives up his associations with these types but I'm not going to blackball the guy because of the actions of somebody he knows.

I doubt that the Eagles would have released him if the issues were not very serious in his off field life, I'd stay away from him. No one traded for him which would lead me to believe other teams did their homework too. I'm sure someone will take a flyer since there are no draft picks involved but I don't want him around. He's always been a guy that had work ethic questions and was complaining about a contract for years it seemed like, I think he's obviously a talent but I don't think he's worth the head ache at this point.

Sucks that we are in such "image limbo" right now that all questionable signings likely won't be considered.

If A team in California signs him it will be hilarious.

My guess is he ends up in Carolina for cheap.

Cap Room of teams that could be interested.....

    Seattle-15.2
    SF-4.7
    Jets-28.6
    NE-4.02
    Carolina-5.09
    Miami-19.1 (for ****s and giggles)

Makes perfect sense for Seattle on a 1 yr deal, remember nobody even wanted to trade for him....

    Immediate thoughts:

    1. Is he affiliated with the same crew as Mike Pouncey?
    2. If so will this help us land Jackson?

I don't want him on our team. Even without the bad off the field ties, he's a locker room distraction with him always wanting a bigger contract.

Don't know how a football player wanting a bigger contract while still producing on the field is a "distraction"

I swear football players and coaches must be the ultimate ADD cases since every little thing is such a distraction that they can't work.

Per WYsP in philly Jackson was arrested early in his career for drugs and loaded firearms in his car.The arresting officers being huge eagles fans let him call andy reid at the scene.Reid convinced the cops to let him go and told Jackson the following day if this ever happens again he will make sure he never plays in the nfl again.
Fast forward to Jackson getting his new contract with an 8 million dollar signing bonus.Jackson blew the 8 mil in the first year and is living pay check to pay check. This is why he was crying for new contract so he can get another signing bonus because he is broke. This guy is a ****ing idiot!

Is there any evidence for any of this?

If there was an arrest there would be a record. And it's one thing to let a guy go because of some weed, but guys with loaded guns don't get to call their metaphorical Daddy to get them off the hook.

I find it hard to believe.

As to him blowing his money, I have no idea. Wouldn't be the first, won't be the last, and it has nothing to do with his performance on the field which is stellar

Schmolioot....His performance on the field IS good to great. So this tells you how bad things are off the field with him as no teams even offered a 6th round pick to take him. Sometimes the on field performance doesn't justify the off field stuff...just ask NE.

No teams offered a trade because of the salary.

It's the same reason nobody would trade for Wallace.

Schefter reported that there are already 6 teams interested him and he's only been released for a few hours.

And what exactly has Jackson done off the field that's a problem? Being associated with a gang banger?

Guess what, so is Mike Pouncey. Should we cut him because of his friend?

Unless there is some evidence out there that Jackson has done something wrong or is being accused of something illegal, his friendship with a bad guy doesn't make him a bad guy or more likely to commit some serious crime in the future.

I've been advocating we get rid of Pouncey since last year. I see nothing but trouble, especially when Cogs released the text that Martin sent about the drugs.

If no one was willing to give up a 7th round pick for a player of his caliber for 3 years with nothing guaranteed there has to be more to the story.

No one was willing to trade for Revis either.

When he got released he had a number of suitors and got a very nice deal from NE. Not as much as he was making, but still really good.

There's a huge difference between Pouncey's situation and Desean's situation... Even Santonio Holmes, who smashed a bottle to someone's face got traded for a 4th round pick.. Desean's contract only had $250,000.00 GUARANTEED for 2014. That's not a typo by the way. With virtually no money guaranteed this is a very nice contract for any team to absorb, they could just cut his *** soon as the antics start. But no one offered a damn thing.

Why the hell would they release a 27 year old wr coming off of a career year if he didn't have a ton of off the field issues. As for being true about the andy reid issue this is coming from howard eskin. If you lived around here you would know this guy always had the inside scoop on the eagles because he practically blew andy reid every chance he got.

It is pretty evident he has connections with gangs and - whether he's done anything or not - the fact that he seems increasingly influenced by them scares the Eagles; especially in lieu of the Hernandez circumstance. Whether it is an overreaction or not, time will tell.

In the mean time, this was an interesting series of tweets from Derrick Ward! LOL

I don't know, might there be a hint of bitterness there? I am just not sure. Hard to tell. LOL!

Maybe he's auditioning for an ESPN Analyst job next to Teddy?

Ok, let's say its true and the Philly cops allowed Jackdon to escape a felony charge because if a talk with Andy Reid.

This happened like 5 years ago and he's been in no trouble since. Why now?

The weird thing about this whole release is that the Philly players, from what I've read, are just kinda like "yea, he's gone and we're moving on." Not surprised, not outraged. I havent heard guys getting down on the release at all, which is odd; usually you hear a teammate (politely) griping or shaking their heads about it, but not in this case. Maybe something else was up.

What? Revis is making $7M this year and was due around $14M in Tampa. I'm sure we agree the Pats won't be ponying up the $20M next year. Jackson is a $10M WR, no ifs, ands or buts. Teams have had a few weeks to investigate the situation and they all passed.

Not a very good comparison if you ask me.
