Jerry signs with the Giants, love him or hate him he's gone. Wish he could of been better for us and kept his weight in check, may be best remembered for not picking Graham with that draft pick. Wish him the best. http://www.giants.com/news-and-blog...hn-Jerry/33f0e790-85cc-43a6-ba26-363a3cb1d6d3
He didn't become what he wanted, but the people who act like he was just this useless piece of **** are barking up the wrong tree.
yeah agreed,,,, he was a starter on the line. Wonder what the dolphins coaches feel? Doesn't seem to be Benton's move type of guy.
So far I think it's safe to say he's underachieved, that's pretty bush league when it comes to taking care of your machine to play a sport and make millions..I don't know where to find any respect in that..
That's laughable. He was way below average on a terrible line. Could not effectively run or pass block. He has the size, strength, and talent to be great - and he also became exactly what he wanted. Had he "wanted" to be the best, he'd have worked his butt off and been in great shape every season and improved. He did not.
I'd be interested to see how Dpate responds, I agree with everything you said, but he must have a reason why he said what he did..
There are dozens of worse starting linemen than John Jerry every season, year in and year out. John Jerry draws more heat than his actual play(uninspiring as it was) deserves because of whom he was picked over and because he was fat. It's lazy hyperbole.
Watching him bouncing off of Sheldon Richardson and falling to the ground, I suspect the Giants actually have a contract out on Eli Mannings life. If a Dolfans cares to get weepy, look at the Te's we passed over to draft that uhm..under performing..well..turd.
If weight was a significant reason why John Jerry was disliked, this forum would have way more Richie Incognito detractors.
Incognito isn't fat. He's a bigger guy but he certainly isn't the same kind of shape and appearance as Jerry. Incognitos play was never really identified as poor either(although there was a period it shoulda been the year before last).
Incognito's play was on the decline for two years and was very bad in 2013. After he was suspended, literally putting a guy in off the street resulted in better performance. Jerry is disliked for his opportunity cost—"we could have had Jimmy Graham", whom quite a few people on this board wanted to draft when he was coming out of UM—and subpar play only emphasizing the "what could have been" aspect of the pick used to select him. Continually showing up to camp out of weight and then being subpar to bad only exacerbates that, like picking at a scab.
For some reason though in the 8 games he played in '13, his sacks allowed, rate of sacks allowed, however you want to measure it, skyrocketed compared to any other time in his career. He allowed 6 in the 8 games in '13. In 2012 he allowed 4 in 16 games. In 2011, he allowed 3 in 15. In 2010, he allowed 4 in 16. In 2009 he allowed 3 in 12. In 2008 he allowed 5 in 15. I just wonder what happened to him for the sacks to increase so much. 2008 PBE: 97.1 2009: 97.6 2010: 97.3 2011:97.3 2012: 97.8 2013: 96.8 Combining sacks, hits and hurries as pressures and following PFF's formula for PBE, while it appears his rating declined a little in 2013, it does not look quite as bad as just mere sack totals. Apparently he allowed sacks at a higher rate, but the rate for hits and hurries declined just a little. Before 2013, his PBE was about as consistent as one could ever hope for. 2012 was his best ever.
Even though Richie's performance may have declined a little, there is no way Sam Brenner was better. The line as unit may have done better, but that was in spite of Brenner, not because of him. He is young though, and still have a chance to develop into a viable starter.
Jerry was an effective pass blocker. If he run blocked as well as he pass blocked he'd have been a keeper.
Bye Bye, good luck against legitimate competition in Snee! Hope Snee doesn't get injured in tc and you get gifted the job for the umptenth time.
John Jerry joins Gerbil Wilson and Don McNeal and William Judson who I view as huge mistakes to ever be rostered by the Dolphins..literally..Clabo came close to being on the list, he did redeem himself through better play as the yr rolled along. eegads, those 4..are sort of the Bizzaro Mt Rushmore of Dolphins history
That is your list of the 4 worst mistakes ever rostered by the Dolphins? Not even close. Don McNeal misses one tackle against a stud RB, and that seems to be the only thing he has ever been remembered by. That play was not a microcosm of his career.
Nope, constantly burned, constantly, then his groin injuries, then played like shiiiit. That Jest 51-49 game, or whatever the score was, ugh. Jimmie Giles just roasting the secondary, they excused themselves by saying "can't stop greatness" I'm normally not hard on the athletes that way, some though, would like to hit 68 mph with the Doc and erase them from the Dolphins history And keep in mind, Sammie Smith did not even make the Bizzaro Mt Rushmore list..Sammie..Smith..two fumbles at the goal line to lose games Sammie MFing Smith Not even Lorenzo Booker, the COD Champ of 2007, makes the list. Hell not even Tony eff'n Franklin makes the list, for those who recall the "strike games" of 1987
Lankford and Judson were the ones getting constantly burned. Not McNeal so much. The score of that Jets game was 51-45. Those last two scores by the Jets, both TD passes to Wesley Walker, it was Judson in primary coverage on both. Judson and Lankford were the starting corners. Judson from '83 through '89 and Lankford from '85 to '89. Lankford replacing McNeal as one starting corner coincided with the defense's plunge into late 80s years of annual futility. Edit: I'm not one to shirk from an error in memory. I went back and looked at the end of the 51-45 OT loss in 1986. On the tying TD with 5 seconds left, there were multiple Dolphins around Walker. It appeared #44 Lankford was trailing him, and #49 Judson was in the deep middle in zone coverage and was actually nearest at the moment of the catch, though not the primary coverage man. I'd say that was Lankford. However, the winning TD in overtime, they left McNeal 1 on 1 with Walker on the outside. The safety #43 Bud Brown was slow to and late getting over, and Walker ran by McNeal to catch the winning TD at the goal line. Be that as it may, McNeal was BY FAR the most talented of those three corners. His career was ruined by injuries. When he was young he had the look of an annual Pro Bowl corner. Judson and Lankford were of journeyman ability.
Not sad to see this one go. Not because he never lived up to his potential, not because he was an average to below average OL on a bad OL but rather because he lacked the professionalism to show up to camp in shape and lacked the character to develop himself into a better football player.
Good riddens. What a waste of a 3rd round pick. Although, not nearly the waste of a pick that Martin was now that I think about it. Anyway, the O-line overhaul continues. Diggin' it.
McNeal? Are you crazy? He was a great CB for the Dolphins through the early 80s. Actually named Dolphins defensive player of the year one year. After his knee injury he went down hill. Judson for sure. Clabo is def. in the running. Jerry is pretty bad but not quite as bad as a few others, imo. Jay Brophy, Eric Kumerow, Billy Milliner; etc.
Somebody, maybe CK, posted percentages based on rounds. Even round 1 was only 50% or so. Mid rounds dropped off pretty quickly. Hardly money in the bank.
not even close.....Eric Kummerow ring a bell ? How about Jamar Fletcher ? Eddie Moore ? Jackie Shipp ? At least John Jerry started and was decent at times. None of those aforementioned turds even contributed to the team, other than to waste space and eat food at the facility.
