    World Series :shifty:

Hoping this season is enjoyable. I've always been a huge Marlins fan but ill admit my interest in the team has been waivering dur to ownership. 162 is a lot of games to have no hope in.

We'll suck but not as bad as last year.

It's unfortunate that my fandom has shifted from the results on the field to how the prospects are progressing and what we'll get for Stanton but it is what it is. I just can't quit them.

Don't like the idea of trading him. He's been bad and probably won't bring back anything of significance. His upside is worth more to us than whatever return he brings, most likely.

I agree with this. Stick with him and see where he goes. His ceiling is higher than anything we'll get.

85 wins would be some kind of miracle.

73 is a good number to shoot for.

not really. Optimal pitching from their best 4 start stretches of last year would put them somewhere around a 1.4 team whip which is good enough for a 85 win team.

it's attainable if the staff remains healthy and a couple of guys further develop.

73 would be an awful season.

A 1.4 team whip would put them at 27th in the MLB last year. That's not close to good enough for a 85 win team.

That being said, the pitching is fine (although probably is being very overrated by Marlins fans). It's the offense that's the problem. The only hitters projected better than average are Stanton, and barely Yelich and Salty. The rest are well well below-average.

There's pretty much no chance in hell this team wins 85 games. This year should be about getting to the mid-70's in wins, figuring out what we have in Yelich, Ozuna, Marisnick, Dietrich, Heaney, etc, and setting ourselves up to compete next year.

73 wins would be a success.

He's very talented but I'd be surprised if he breaks an .800+ OPS in his first year.

I'm thinking a decent average, high OBP, and the power starts coming in the second half of the year.

EDIT: If he could recreate his line from last year, I'd be pretty happy. Something like ~280/370/400

20 game improvements happen all the time.

The pitching staff alone improving, will push them toward .500

Offense is overrated in the grand scheme toward contending. Pitching is all that matters to begin to build a contender.

The 2013 Washington Nationals are the model. For the Marlins to improve to Nationals level of offense would take next to nothing (create a third of a run per game). But look at their pitching. Their pitching alone took them to 86 wins.

Thank god you have the Heat to level things out or I'd be worried about your mental health between having to root for the Dolphins, Marlins and Mets.

    Right?

Mets season ended yesterday after they blew three leads over the mighty Nats.

I mean...we get to Strasburg and still manage to look like a clown show in the end?

My entire baseball experience this year is already reduced to watching Jose Fernandez all year.

There's a lot wrong with this but I do not think the Marlins going from literally the worst offense in the last 25 years to a league average offense in one year is "nothing." There's zero chance it happens.

But both offense and pitching are equally important. Look no further than the 2013 Marlins who finished with the lowest ERA in franchise history and still lost 100 games.

This team isn't getting to 80 wins. Maybe next year.

I think the most difficult aspect of improving the offense is the Marlins appear to be relying on some of these guys to perform beyond their career average. We learned that lesson with John Buck. It's an average for a reason.

The model of what? A choking victim? They weren't even the best staff in the division, contrary to what the people at ESPN want to tell everybody. Their starters were tough, their pen could be had.
