Absolutely one of my favorite times of the year, no more distractions, time to get into the art of evaluation, study these mothers movement, bodies, and personalities. I make no secret that the combine is very important to me personally in my evaluations, I believe the study of position specific movement and genetics is as important as any part of the evaluation process, of course the film is always the follow up, but great flashes of position movement, fluidity and coordination is where it's at for this great event.. This is where a GM can make a huge mark, studying the intricacies of the mind and body, some try to tell me this process is luck, I'm sure mr Schneider in Seattle would disagree.. You are stock and I'm about to investigate whether I want to invest, from the mental side..Better have your priorities in order, better be intelligent enough to grasp the importance of offseason training and nutrition, and better show me leadership qualities and toughness. Combine workout schedule: » Saturday, Feb. 22: Tight ends, offensive linemen, special teams » Sunday, Feb. 23: Quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers » Monday, Feb. 24: Defensive linemen, linebackers » Tuesday, Feb. 25: Defensive backs For offense, After looking at our teams weaknesses, My main goal is to rebuild a functional powerful, explosive, diverse running attack.. Lineman..running backs..fullbacks..tight ends..of course free agency comes into play for some of these positions, but we also need to see if we can upgrade thru the draft. For defense..Middle linebacker..safety. Full time returner is a priority this offseason for me, but the combine doesn't showcase that position. Something happens when it's combine time, the past goes in the rear view mirror, the hope is restored, and lets hope this guy Hickey learned how rich McKay turned a toxic culture in Tampa bay into a defensive powerhouse who won the Super Bowl.. I'm hoping that our Qb and all his weapons on this team is instructing his own combine very shortly..and Cam wake is doing the same for his players.. They didn't make the playoffs so their preparation should begin earlier than those who didn't.. For this combine to be successful it sure would be beneficial to know what the true vision is for this team, are we to listen to Ross from two years back when he said we want to be fast paced passing team, or is about accumulating good tough football players regardless of position to create a balance.?
I will definitely be checking out eric ebron's combine. What do you think of him Deej? If the news of us going hard after Branden Albert are true i would say Ebron is a good possibility. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
No no, I am serious. I have some favorites, but some guys may jump up and down the draft boards and my preference list based on athleticism. I am serious. For example, I am looking at Martevis Bryant WR slotted in the 3rd round right now, but if he runs 4.35, he is Moss type talent, for example.
Oh ok cool.. Sure the draft boards moves up and down depending on how these players move and cover space.
last year for example, Jamie Collins blew out the combine, got himself into first round. This is very important, I am looking forward to it.
I want Odell beckham and Jeremy hill on the dolphins. Beckham returning kicks and hill becoming the true back we need.
There's isn't much not to like VIz.. The player is athletically fluid in every direction, and is not one or two dimensional, there's nothing he can't do athletically on a football field and looks good doing it, he's fast, prolly 4.5 ish range, he can get down the seam quickly and snap his head to the Qb once he feels separation to make himself available to his Qb, his adjustments during his routes and how he reads defense's seems to be pretty good, his arms are long, his hands are good, he's a willing blocker who gets his shoulder and feet square on his target and centers.. And he can rush the passer.. I mean his blocking isn't dominant, he's not that 6'5 or 6'6 guy you could weird science up, but he's a legit weapon and mismatch type player.. Would be interesting to see him and Clay line up but I have no idea what type of offense a Lazor and Philbin wanna run, and what type of players fits that mold...you have Amaro and Nicklas waiting there as well if you want more of the opposite of Clay. I think it's an interesting debate and question for the guys here that truly understand offensive football. Does it really inhibit the offense if you have Clay and Ebron attacking a defense rather than Clay and Nicklas?
That's why I put that returner note in there, I'm finding that guy this year, and if I don't love him, than I'm not finding him this year, lol, but I'm gonna be looking hard and prioritizing. You like Odell on both kickoff and punt return eh?
You sound like someone who has never experienced the feeling of having thee one.? Yup, thats us dolphin fans...never had the one..never had the ability to identify the one, never prioritized the one..
Running game: 1st...Sign Toby Gerhart and trade Daniel Thomas. 2nd....Draft RB Lache Seastrunk(3rd) and FB Trey Millard(6th) RB/KR/PR Fabian Truss(7th/FA)(Leads the FBS in all purpose yds) Millard is expected to slide significantly because he blew out his knee, but IMO he is by far the best FB prospect in this draft. http://newsok.com/oklahoma-football...esnt-regret-returning/article/3916490/?page=2 Some of the Sooner coaches said Millard was the best football player on their team. At LB I'm hoping against hope that they just convert to a base 3-4 and play Jordan and Misi in the middle but I'd be looking for SS/OLB hybrid type to play spot duty leaving Misi a one or two down LB playing thumper duty only. All our DB's are small. I think we need to spend higher picks elsewhere so maybe Antone Exum in the 5th round?? Telvin Smith is probably going to soon. Fabian Truss may not beat out Thigpen this year but he could drop to the PS and win the return jobs in 2015. Then again Lache Seastrunk might make a mean return guy if given the chance. That is, if he doesn't win the feature back spot. I think it quite possible that Hickey will completely ignore the TE position this year and go with the young crew we already have, unless there is a small school wonder somewhere they have their eye on. I'm going to be watching for Cameron Brate's Pro Day. TE Harvard
I'd be happy to have somebody back there that I trusted. A threat back there would just be almost too much to hope for.
I believe that he does have late round value. I also believe that with an intelligent GM 7th round draft picks can be very valuable. If we received a 7th from say........Jags/Cowboys/Vikings none of which have jackcrap after their starter, we could draft say.......OC/OG Gabe Ikard or DE/DT Taylor Hart or Safety Jonathan Dowling.
I would like to see some signs from our GM and coach as to what kind of team we wanna be, it's gonna be hard to target players when we don't have a clue whether this GM wants offensive or defensive identity.. We know what are glaring needs are and that is to rebuild the run game from oline to fullback. How bout a guy that has been thru great adversity and talks like this... Must aquire players who have a purpose and identity. “We’re Gonna Run The Ball Down Your Throat” Jay Prosch..auburn fullback.. You know any info about Millards knee?
No he's not. He's borderline 1st round talent with a 10th round head. If he got his sh-t together, worked his *** off, and gained more weight he could be a poor man's Josh Gordon...... but that's a big if because it'd mark a first for him.
