The time wont be an issue for guys who come on here and post regularly, just throwing that out there for guys who are unsure. Its a really fun thing to do, and looking back AFTER the season is fun as well. So go for it guys. As of this post I believe there are 11 spots left.
It's a lot of fun if you really enjoy the front office (wheeling and dealing/drafting) part of football.
it is really addicting if you take it seriously. Great way to spend the offseason. It primes you for free agency and the draft as well. I would guess the time necessary is at most a half hour a day during the peak free agency and draft times, but maybe I'm being conservative?
With all the GM drama surrounding Miami, there is a reasonable chance Steve Ross will recruit his NEXT GM by referencing this league. I have a pretty impressive resume over the years.
Sounds about right. You can spend 30 minutes a day or 20 hours a day depending how interested you are. I mean you start with an NFL roster so even doing minimal work in FA and on the draft you can improve your team.
I got my posse to help me out, Jeff and Brian. They weren't doing anything so I gave them a call. They are more then happy to help out. Paul I got the Dolphins right?
I'd probably take the Jets. If I remember correctly their not bad off cap wise. I can't believe I just typed that........take the Jets, I've officially gone off the deep end
They actually aren't, especially once you dump Holmes and Sanchez and maybe Cromartie. Good luck with them.
For the first time in years, the New York Jets are headed towards cap stability. New York looks like it could have tons of cap space this offseason, making them a major player in free agency. John Idzik and company can free up cap space mainly through cutting a slew of high-profile players. The Jets look primed to release some of the underperforming big names on their current roster, including Antonio Cromartie, Santonio Holmes and Mark Sanchez. Gang Green will save $9.5 million, $8.25 million and $8.3 million by terminating the contracts of Cromartie, Holmes and Sanchez, respectively. That accounts to an astounding $26.05 million in cap savings if New York chooses to release all three players, which seems to be a certainty at this point. While Holmes is definitely a goner, the Jets could choose to terminate the current contracts of Cromartie and Sanchez and restructure new ones with them. The Jets may also decide to release running back Mike Goodson. Goodson caused headaches in his first season with the team after being arrested on gun and drug charges last offseason. The move would save the Jets about $1.3 million. In all, Idzik and company project to have about $30 million to spend this offseason, assuming the salary cap limit for the 2014 season is $126.3 million. The money shelled out to rookies and emergency reserves is accounted into that figure. The $30 million in cap savings ranks amongst the top in the league for the 2014 season, and it means that the Jets will likely be at the forefront of the free-agent market.
Actually it looks like there will be quite a few rookies this year. Lots of teams still there for the taking. Should be fine. It's mostly just being available when things are happening and staying organized with your team page and finances.
We got 6 spots left. If your one of the folks who get driven mad over the next few months because of the lulls in action. GML is for you. It's a great way to fill that football need through the winter. Oh and did I mention there are prizes available?
For those reading this thread, you probably won't really be stuck with the Jets or Bills. We have 6 spots left, so there's plenty of opportunity to get other teams. Just FYI.
FYI, if you're addicted to Madden Franchise Mode or Fantasy Football, this is right up your alley! Take over a team, trade players [for players or draft picks], have the opportunity to cut players to free up cap space [w/o repercussion I might add], go through Free Agency [which uses an active bidding process], and then finish it off with a live online draft with all 32 GMs. To culminate your months of fun hard work which makes the offseason go by quicker, the league votes on all sorts of categories like GM of the Year, Rookie of Year, Offense of Year, Defense of Year, Best Draft, Best Free Agency, Best in Trades, Best Feud, etc, and this year some prizes will be awarded, including the esteemed, rarely offered, ThePhins Club Membership..... or a $25 gift card to NFL.com to obtain that new Dolphins hat you've coveted for months but the wife wont let you have. In year's past I believe it's even been simulated in Madden to determine the Super Bowl winner. Not to mention, the GM League thread is like a community within the community with all 32 GMs chatting about the league and talking smack to each other amidst the general discussion thread, Free Agency discussion thread, Draft discussion thread, etc. It definitely requires a time commitment so keep that in mind, however it's an enjoyable one, especially during NFL down time.
Some great teams still available...including six playoff teams from last year. Can't say exactly who... but they're not all from the AFC East
You know whats going to suck? When its late February or March and youre stuck watching regular season NBA or NHL games knowing your team is probably going to suck anyway. Baseball wont even have started yet, the draft isnt yet in full swing and youre STUCK having to spend time with your families. Enjoy that. You are going to be BEGGING for a spot in the league then.
People claiming that time is an issue...will be found arguing with FinD for hours and hours all offseason long. True story.
It's easy. Step by step instructions are given at each function. You can also look at the 2013 GM league forum for rule sets that were there. First step is to follow the link given in the OP and select your team list ;p
Basically it's like being a real GM. You go through the offseason trying to rework your roster and try and put the best team on the field that you can on a 1 year basis. At the end we vote on how well people did by handing out awards for best team, best defense etc. This should explain more... http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?80815-2014-GML-Rules-FAQ-and-Timeline If you still have questions, ask. It's a fun way to kill off the offseason imo.
I jumped in last year for the first time and had a blast. Really not that much time, reply to trade offers and bid for free agency. Really it's up to you how much time you put in. The reason I started was to help the slow offseason go by bhut it also gi es you an idea of what the dolphins could do this offseason, you get familiar with FAs.
