Looks promising. Appears to have good experience and apparently an excellent record in Denver.

I'll be happy when it's over.

I'd put Xander, Gamble and Licht as my top three. I'd be very happy with any of them.

Immediately one of my favorites along side Gamble and Licht. Might even be my top favorite.

I was thinking that too, then I checked with a friend of mine who's a Lions fan who was pretty upset about the news. Saying "The X-man can scout talent. I'd hate to lose him" Looks like he's done some good things in the past with Detroit and previously. Alot of the Detroit media (I live across the river from Detroit) have had alot of praise for him (and Mayhew as well) on the radio and tv shows. Very interested in this option.

Love the amount of experience he brings with teams that have gotten talented players recently. He would be my top candidate at the moment.

With all the great GM candidates we have interviewed, we will know 100% what the perception of our front office is by the end.

If we fail to snag a top guy, I will buy in to the dysfunction rumors. Right now I dont. I feel we will end up with someone great.

Looks like Xanders has the best resume out of all the GM candidates that we interviewed or plan on interviewing.

The one knock I have on him is that he drafted Tim Tebow in the first round... :shifty:

Personally I've been considering it more a question of WHEN and not IF Tom Gamble will pull his name from consideration.

For some reason when Armando Salguero made the Norman Braman connection he immediately took the conspiratorial optimist angle...that Steve Ross might be attempting to inocculate the Dolphins against Norman Braman's opposition to public funding of stadium improvements.

Sorry but that doesn't foot. What is much more likely is that hearing that Tom Gamble, whom Norman Braman is close with, is set to interview for the Miami job, he will immediately call both Harry Gamble and Tom Gamble and advise them very strongly NOT to take the job. And if Harry and Tom are as close to Norman Braman as Armando says, then Tom will likely take that advice. There's already enough tying Tom to Philadelphia at the moment (his dying father, the wildly successful Chip Kelly program). There's already plenty of reason to question the Miami job's attractiveness even before getting a phone call from Norman Braman.

Norman Braman and Steve Ross HATE each other. With passion. And we really think a close friend of Norman Braman is going to become Steve Ross' right hand man?

He sounds like a great candidate, but let's not fall into to the trap of only seeing good moves in Denver as his and discounting any bad moves as someone else's while he was there. We've been there before...

Except in this case there's no speculation involved. That was a Josh McDaniels move. Just as it was a Josh McDaniels move to have Peyton Hillis shipped to Cleveland for Brady Quinn (Charlie Weis <==> Josh McDaniels connection). And that was not for football reasons. That move happened because McDaniels caught Hillis hitting on his wife.

I can see why you'd think the way you do but that's really genuinely what happened.

The Broncos executed high-producing NFL Draft classes over the last three years, which finished #1 in the NFL in playtime and #2 in games started during 2010-12. There were nine primary starters from those draft classes, including three Pro Bowl players: LB Von Miller, WR Demaryius Thomas and OG Zane Beadles. The opening day roster of the 2013 Broncos had 18/25 starters from the draft classes from 2008-2012. There were also eight other Pro Bowl players who were acquired, signed or extended during his tenure: QB Peyton Manning (FA, 2012), SS Brian Dawkins (UFA, 2009–11), WR Brandon Lloyd (FA, 2009–11), RB Willis McGahee (FA, 2011), CB Champ Bailey (re-signed, 2011), DE Elvis Dumervil (re-signed, 2010), WR Brandon Marshall (re-signed, 2010), and OT Ryan Clady (1st round, 2008).

That’s the word on the street according to Mark Schlereth and Alfred Williams, who claimed on 104.3 the Fan today that it has long been common knowledge around the Broncos organization. Apparently, the story goes that Hillis – who is a single bachelor about town – made the moves on McDaniels wife, Laura, shortly after they got to Denver. It’s unclear whether or not Peyton actually knew who he was hitting on, but regardless, McDaniels supposedly got wind of it, and that was it for Hillis.

Its possible the guy didnt even know it was McDaniels wife. Happened right after they got to Denver.

Orlando Alzaguray is going on a rampage against Brian Xanders on twitter and all signs point to him continuing it on-air at 3pm on his radio show.

His main points are that Xanders didn't have final say in 2008 as he was just Assistant GM to Ted Sundquist, and he didn't have final say in 2011-2012 as that was John Elway and John Fox.

I think those are fair points to raise but become a lot less significant when you consider that not a single GM prospect Miami is looking at have ever had final say authority on anything except what they're having for breakfast. And that's not a coincidence. Miami isn't looking to recycle people that were fired for cause.

Even in Big O's construct, Xanders didn't have anyone standing over him in the personnel department in 2009 or 2010, and the 2010 Draft was a hell of a haul for the Broncos.

Also I've heard it on good authority that AT WORST the standout 2011 UDFA Chris Harris Jr. was all Brian Xanders. And he's become one hell of a player.

Then you have the conspicuous coincidence that when Xanders leaves the Broncos, suddenly their draft haul goes south a bit while simultaneously suddenly the Lions drafting got more successful.

Broncos 1st rounder Sylvester Williams only took 300 snaps. Montee Ball was OK. They got nothing out of Quanterus Smith, Tavarres King, Vinston Painter or Zac Dysert. The best draft pick might have been Kayvon Webster in the 3rd rounder, as he played just under 500 snaps.

Meanwhile the Lions got 9 sacks out of Ziggy Ansah. Devin Taylor the 4th round pick was better than Sylvester Williams the 1st round pick. Joseph Fauria scored 7 touchdowns as a UDFA tight end. LaAdrian Waddle was also a standout tackle as a UDFA. Sam Martin was an excellent punter as a rookie. And their best draft pick Larry Warford taken in the 3rd round was legitimately one of the best guards in football as a rookie.

So Brian Xanders leaves the Broncos and you get uninspiring draft results, he goes to the Lions and you get inspiring draft results, and I'm sure that's a coincidence.

Really? I was under the impression that the initial report (on a Broncos message board if I recall correctly) turned out to be a hoax. There's still lots of hits on Google, but I'm pretty sure they're based on the same (fake) report. Or did I miss something?

Found nothing but rumors, but what was I expecting, a press release from McDaniels himself stating as much?

First google search result actually came up with "UPDATE: We have confirmed with 104.3 the Fan in Denver that this rumor is 100% False".
But my interest has since faded in this non story from 3+ years ago.

I've come across several articles in just the last 10-15 minutes by doing a simple Google search. Which makes me think...where there's smoke there must be fire.

I also remember questioning the the thought process of the Broncos in making that trade. IIRC Hillis was a beast at the time. And, Brady Quinn was still very much a project. Not to mention, they already had Kyle Orton, and of course...Tim Tebow.

Add to that Laura McDaniels not too hard on the eyes, and yeah...I can see it being a legit story.

That's impressive. I do not believe that Elway is that good of a talent evaluator. He is probably great at anything involving an enormous ego.
