Wouldn't surprise me if Gaine gets the GM job.

    Congratulations as well.

I will be very surprised if Gaine remains with the Dolphins if he doesn't get the GM position. He interviewed for the position and would be working for the new GM if he doesn't get the job. I don't know what other opportunities he might have in the NFL at this time, but I imagine it wouldn't be easy for him to work for someone who didn't hire him and also beat him out for the job with the Dolphins.

While generally viewed as a slap in the face to offensive and defensive coordinators seeking to fill head coaching vacancies for their respective teams, I wouldn't regard a decision to hire an outside candidate a backhanded slight toward Gaine, but rather the anticipated course of action. It could be the team has a desire for a different approach, and greater depth of experience.

If Ireland has been Gaine's leading influence to date, it would seem fair to conclude Gaines interview was more about due diligence and a supportive gesture by the team to recognise Gaine as a viable candidate.
With experience gained from a more seasoned GM, Gaine might be well advised to heed the opportunity, and perhaps amid a time of success, rather than failure, he may become a more coveted candidate.

You never know, your tryout for the team and signing, might well be Gaines salvation.
