I wouldn't mind this signing. So Taylor stays onboard as QBs coach then?

I would be ok because of how Nick Foles managed to play this season, the big part being barely any interceptions, but my issue is the play calling. If he becomes OC, would Philbin call the plays or still leave that job to the OC? Does this guy have experience with play-calling? Sherman's role was partly being a head coach as OC, calling plays and I think there was a report of him running practices.

Personally I would prefer a former HC at the OC position, like Chudzinski, but the way this guy has improved Nick Foles makes me ok with bringing him to Miami and Philbin then becomes the take charge guy we wanted.

I'm really happy to see them interviewing Lazor, he's probably my favorite of the plausible options at offensive coordinator.

Chip Kelly has basically grafted his offense on to WCO passing elements, and Pat Shurmur and Bill Lazor have been part of that. I'd love for Miami to important some of those modern run game elements(or ****, even a desire to run the goddamned ball) while retaining a somewhat familiar passing game.

Lazor also has experience working with Dan Reeves, Mike Holmgren, and Joe Gibbs, and reportedly has been highly recommended by them in the past.

Here's another article on Lazor from his time in West Virginia, and what he learned from guys he coached under

    http://www.dailyprogress.com/sports/article_e9db946c-e876-564c-a1f6-217e058508e4.html

    An article on his recommendations:
    http://www.seattlepi.com/sports/foo...coach-steps-in-to-replace-an-icon-1282150.php

He seems like a guy whom is likely to interview well at least based on his quotes in the articles.

Sounds like it would be a great hire. Just helped develop Foles and can bring some of the creativity he has experienced with Kelly to Miami. If we got him and Gamble I for one, would be very pleased.

Nick Foles coming along well I think is a positive sign, but I think Seneca Wallace playing very well in 8 starts during Lazor's tenure as the Seahawks QB coach may be impressive as well.

Seems to be low interception numbers in general during his tenures as QB coach, Washington '06 had 10 total(Mark Brunell/Rookie Jason Campbell), 11 total in 2007(Campbell/Todd Collins), 15 in 2008 with the Seahawks(Between Matt Hasselbeck, Seneca Wallace, and Charlie Frye). Less so in 2009 with Hasselbeck/Wallace with 19, and with the Eagles this year there was 9 total between Mike Vick, Matt Barkley, and of course Nick Foles.

Tanny seems to shine w/ the fast pace at the end of the half/game so maybe up tempo and some better qb coaching and, and, and........so excited.

    Hey, whatever works...

I like Lazor, but don't know how much he is responsible for the 'fast pace, Chip Kelly O'. Has worked for some pretty good HCs. That said, find it a bit funny that Philbin is moving forward at this point, while the GM search has begun...But, so be it....

I'm not a big fan of Zac Taylor, but not sure if that is more that he was part of the Sherman debacle or is 'coaching'. Tanny did improve this season, but not to the extent that we'd like to have seen. Seems to have taken too long to develop good chemistry with Wallace, but did with Clay, who was new to offense. He's still got a good rapport with Hartline, but that started two years ago...Just some questions, in general about Taylor...

Naturally, the patchwork OL was likely the reason for a lot of the flaws...we'll have to wait and see about that...

This will be good for the team because it'll make our offense more uptempo and not as predictable, it will make a star out of Tanny for sure.

Just curious to what our reaction will be when we invariably don't hire this guy and go with McAdoo instead?

shouldn't we be getting a gm first, and then having them involved in the hiring process?

Sounds like they want to bring gamble in and if we go with McAdoo then if they fail next year the new GM will remove them like he probably plans to before getting there. Same old new GM wants his own guy.

Great news. Either Kubiak or Lazor I'd be very satisfied with. Much more so than McAdoo

I'd be thrilled with somebody who brought in some concepts from Kelly's offense. The spacing and timing in that offense was incredible. Kelly seemed to use the standard route combinations you see throughout the NFL, but tweaked them through formations. I saw more open receivers in that offense than I've seen in a long time. And it wasn't receivers beating one on ones. Most of the time it just seemed to be receivers running to an open space. And the constraint concepts were great. McCoy is an incredible talent, but he also had some great gaps to run through. The QBs in that offense ran more than twice as often as RT. Even Foles who is considerably less athletic than RT ran more in 13 games than RT did 16 games (Foles averaged about two rushes more per game).

One reason I'd prefer Lazor over McAdoo is it would show that Philbin is going outside his comfort zone and not mostly hiring cronies from his past coaching stops. Then of course there is the chance to incorporate some of Chipper's concepts into our offense.

Doesn't matter. Philbin gets final say on his coaching staff. Ross gets final say on the new GM.

I think all of the guys who Miami has been said to be interested in represent an encouraging trade. McAdoo is still an assumption based on last round, but Lazor, Shanahan Jr. and Kubiak all represent a significant shift in how things are done towards offensive balance, play action, etc
