While Applebee's vehemently denies no jobs will be lost, how often has technologically improved efficiency of labor not lead to job's lost?

This is what the restaurant tablets look like...

...and anyone else just a litte surprised Apple isn't making the tablets for Applebee's.:)

E la Carte is listed as a private company at the moment but seems like would be worth keeping on the radar if it does go public in the future.

Amazing, this has been long long long overdue. It will absolutely reduce wait staff though - without the need to take orders/run checks, there just is not a need for that many. It won't eliminate servers though - someone still has to bring the food.

The employment provided by the service industry is vital to this country's well-being, so I personally would never step foot again in an Applebees or any chain that goes this route. How many college kids owe part of their degrees to restaurant jobs that allowed them to attend class during the day and work at night? I know I was one of 'em.

Applebee's certainly won't be the last to incorporate this type of system. Seems like a winner for businesses and customers in many regards. Obviously it won't be a fit for everyone. Ultimately the market will decide.
