The Dolphins offered Ed Reed a Contract and he politely declined. He was also offered a deal by the New England Patriots. Ed Reed cited his wanting to re-unite with his Old DC in Rex Ryan and a familiarity with the defense for signing with the Jets. I have no info on how they were gonna use him.
No surprises there. I'm glad he didn't go with New England. I expect him to be used only in certain packages with the Jets. He's certainly not an every down player at 35.
The guy has a lot of instincts. He does need a lot speed to be at the right spot at the right time.He will be a situational player I am sure.He would have been better off with the Patriots who at least have chance at the playoffs. The Jets have none.
My guess is he would rather try to help his old DC to make the playoffs than play for BB. And I'd say NE has more than just a chance to make the playoffs. Who is winning the AFC East? The Jets? No. Miami? Please.
I think the Dolphins and Patriots honestly just wanted to keep him away from the Jets. Also he probably could have helped both teams.
Do you really think he will have that much of an impact with the Jets that two teams were willing to sign him just to keep him away? His stat sheet says he all but done.
He can still diagnose better than any safety in the game, and he would be an asset on the field for any team. Especially on third down.
but he rejected Miami like many players before him and unfortunately the many players after him that soon will. even draft picks are going to avoid this team and that is sickening to me.
He rejected Miami because he had a chance to play with Ryan. I doubt it had anything to do with what's going on with Martin/Incognito.
Hmm. So much for all the talk about how Ed Reed and Bryant McKinnie used to say they would love to end their careers in Miami and would take a pay cut to do it.
My guess is Reed ends up being their 3rd safety but possibly starts. He played I think 45 or 49% of plays in Houston. The NYJ secondary has been their weakest part of their defense so Reed certainly won't hurt them.
Great, back to no one wants to play for or coach the Phins. Back to looking at the second tier, not that Ellerbe and Wheeler are first tier.
Who was having that talk? The "know it all media". Link me a direct quote on that or I call BS. How many times have we heard about a UM player wanting to come home? In the meantime the Dolphins organization has pretty much ignored all that talent in their backyard over the years, and when they didn't they managed to pick the wrong ones.
So its come to this. Players actually choosing Rex Ryan and the Jets Locker Room over ours!? Really? So this is how a drunk feels when his family leaves him and he is laying in the street with vomit all over him. This is the Bottom.
Guy is no different then the crap on the bottom of my show. The Jets were the biggest laughing stock last season and off season. I HATE JOHNATHAN MARTIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the link and making me sick at all the talent that was passed over. Now for people to post "X amount of teams passed on them too".
Dude. It's hard to drive down to Coral Gables in traffic to scout these guys. Have you seen the traffic on Ponce De Leon around 5:00?
lol... right... Rex was a better coach than Sparano by far, and thus far has been better than Philbin as well. He admits (begrudingly, albeit) when he is wrong, changes his staff up when he thinks they aren't performing or getting the best from units or players, and has his team with a better record than ours. You also don't see his team's owner feeling as thought he has to start a committee (with ex-players from their biggest rival) to help him do his job. Rex has his fault's, mostly his bluster (like some posters on here) but he's good defensive coach IMO, who players love to play for. The stej still sucks though. And always will.
You gotta be fair... Nobody really knew that Jimmy Graham, TY Hilton, etc...where gonna be good except for about 40 or 50 wackos on thephins.com message board. How do you make draft decisions based on what those people say?
Jets weakness on defense is the secondary, especially the safety position, he is an upgrade for them.
Yeah, but you guys don't use the Magic 8 Ball method of drafting. All great GM's have used that method since 1977.
Not to insert another dagger, but there's also 2006 when we opted for Teddy Ginn because it was a position of need over MLB (could have had Patrick Willis), which at the time wasn't a position of need (we had future HOFer Channing Crowder manning the middle). Head honchoes get paid to have vision. Damn shame. I want to believe, but they just don't help things.
Nope I place it ALL on him. Had he handled it like a man , in house, like every other team does, he wouldn't be in this mess. I have a very large distain for J. Martin. I really hope he never plays a snap in the NFL again.
