pretty cool article, especially like the Clabo part! Enjoy! http://profootballspot.com/topic/5694-spot-the-future-of-the-miami-dolphins/
A lot of "what if"s, but a pretty nice summary. I honestly didn't know we had that much cap space after this year.
It's not a bad article, but I just have to say I'm really beaten down by "bright future" outlooks with this team. It's always about the future with the Dolphins, isn't it? Why can't it just once be about this season? "Next year we'll get 'em!!! They can fix this problem next year! Next year we can draft a guy!" Last year it was "All we need is a receiver!" This year it's, "All we need are some lineman". The problem is this team can't fix it's prior year problems without creating current year problems. It hasn't been able to do so for years now.
I don't get it. You have our best QB since Pennington and a very competent back up who is so far happy with being a back up... Why lose that asset to marginally improve the rest of your team.
Call it what you want, Ireland has not only dug us out of cap hell, but set us up really nice 2 years in a row.
Cap space is only useful if the team actually uses it. Pointless if they just perpetually carry it over.
I think we were ALWAYS looking at beyond this season. Going 3-0 has fogged over that rational projection rightly or wrongly. Losing 3 on the bounce to Saints and last yrs SuperBowl winner has too many people hitting the panic button. That read has lowered my blood pressure a little and is positive. Only question....Mr Ireland......?
That article really makes you wonder why they played hard ball with Jake Long given our current OT situation. Jake has certainly declined but he's been a leader for this team and a guy who could help RTH stay upright to make more plays.
Honestly while Clemons is solid I would think Miami would want more playmaking ability from that position before they hand him out 3 years 15 million...
Yeah. He's not going to be given 15 mill for 3 years. A more logical contract would be 3 years - 8 mill
Agreed. This team needs more playmakers. Not solid players on a defense that ranks 20th in points allowed way under performing their potential.
I realized this guy didn't have a clue when he stated that the Dolphins have a roster full of talented players. There is some talent on this roster, just as there is on every other NFL roster. The problem is that the Dolphins don't have the type of impact players it takes to be a consistent winner in the NFL. Teams with a roster full of talent don't lose at home to the Buffalo Bills and a QB who was on the practice squad just a few weeks ago. We have been reading for the past few years that this is a young and talented team. Yet this so called talented roster continues to play mediocre football. I'm tired of reading about how bright the future of this team looks, instead I want to see results today, not sometime in the future. Right now I think the Patriots, Jets, and Bills have just as much, if not more talent on their rosters, and they aren't going anywhere in the future.
Well at least he is good at something. Because he certainly doesn't have a clue when it comes to building a winning football team. Someone needs to tell him that drafting and signing a majority of very average players will do nothing but give you a very mediocre football team. Over the past four years and six games, the Dolphins have a combined record of 30-40. This is about as mediocre as you can get. Who cares how much money the Dolphins have under the cap if Ireland is the person responsible for selecting the players for the roster? Hopefully the next GM will do a better job in the college draft and with all the money the Dolphins have under the cap at this time. The problem isn't how much or how little money the Dolphins have tied up in salary at this time. The problem is that there just aren't enough quality players on the roster now for the money they are spending in salary. The fault for this is Ireland's.
I don't agree with everything in the article, but overall we are well positioned to continue to build the team that fits Philbin's vision.
We need two or three offensive linemen and a couple of tight ends. Get them and the emergency's over. Certainly we can do this over the next free agency period and draft.
I don't get the signing of Misi to his contract when you could have had Starks or Solai for the same money?
kind of silly to think that list of FAs is actually going to hit the market. likely, most of the top half will be resigned. ..and what evidence if any do we have that J Martin has the slightest ability to play LG if they let Cogs go? considering how Ireland has really struggled to put a good Oline together, I'd resign Cogs, even if it's for more than he's worth. then you're only trying to upgrade 3 positions, not 4.
If either Louis or Clabo had worked out and Keller had stayed healthy I think it would be a different offense. A much better offense. And if the defense hadn't been decimated by injuries we would be at least another win. I feel pretty positive.
I don't know what made the writer think we can just re-negotiate Wallace's contract. He would have to say yes, and why would he?
