I found this very interesting he basically says that atheist can get into heaven. He truly wants I believe a more open Church. With this comments on not judging gay priests, and now wanting to open up dialogue about celibacy amongst priests as well. I am very pleased with him thus far.

    Any thoughts?

This Pope will do more for the Catholic church than the last 100.

Agreed, my interpretation of the way God loves us all got me in big trouble and eventually kicked out of CCD back in the 80's...

I believe, I don't listen to man's interpretation of what God believes, I believe in the word....period...

To think if you don't go to Church every Sunday or other of the real bogus things the Church says you HAVE to do in order to gain eternal release is foolish at best. Frankly the Lord had better things to do besides make up "laws" of acceptance....

Huh? Maybe we will see each other on the other side D....

I think Pope Francis is trying to make core teachings of the Church, not just popular piety which is often skewed, accessible to the multitudes. I think it is a very, very good thing.

Methinks everyone involved in the inquisitions are rolling in their graves.

It just makes me realize how silly organized religion is. After x number of years of "Gods word" being X, we need a social revolution and changes so we change it to Y.

I don't, sin is separation from God, to sugar coat it is to not prick the conscious of the sinner.

Isn't that kind of judgement up to your god though?

Jesus didn't teach exclusion nor did he teach for people to judge others.

I think Padre and I are on different pages. If he is talking about some reconsideration of what is sin then no I don't think it should change at the theological level. Sin is missing the mark, trespassing in the realm of God, and/or being indebted to God by our behavior.

What I was talking about though was the popular piety which equates sin with deeds (or misdeeds) instead of being our fallen condition. Popular piety would equate sin with missing worship, failing to perform a Holy obligation, etc. Here the Pope is trying to bring bedrock theology to the masses. We don't HAVE to go to worship we GET to go to worship! Loving God is not about rules but about actions and intentions. It is ideas like that which I am talking about.

Padre I have heard you argue similar positions haven't I?
