Behind him is Landry Jones. We believe Landry has all of the tools needed to become a good, possibly even great QB. We just need to work on the mental aspects of his game. If he could learn not to melt under pressure, then we will be in good shape in the future. Fullback: Willie Carter (H-Back) -I always like to have someone who can do it all at the Fullback position. Basically, I believe every team should have an H-Back on their team if they find one that is worth the roster spot. Fortunately, Tulsa is gold mine for H-Backs. He has the speed in hands you'd like when making mismatches against linebackers and the ability to play multiple positions in the offense. He's going to be a Running Backs: Benjarvus Green-Ellis/Michael Turner Marcus Thigpen/Ryan Grant John White -Even though we lost Ray Rice, I felt as if the combination of Green-Ellis and Turner will be enough to offset this lost. As a whole, including depth, I felt as if this position has become stronger. Three of our top four backs having NFL starting experience. Green-Eliis, in particular, showed that he is a starting NFL back, and not just a product of the Patriot's system. A combination of Green-Ellis and Turner would be hell on defensive fronts. Marcus Thigpen can be used at multiple positions and we expect John White to follow that path as we groom him. Wide Receiver: Cordarrelle Patterson Santonio Holmes Jacoby Jones (Starting Slot) Steve Smith/Ted Ginn, Jr. -Speed. Speed. Speed. Right now, I believe we have the fastest receiving corps in the NFL right now. Cordarrelle Patterson is someone I believe will be a faster version of Anquan Boldin. And now we have Santonio Holmes, a very good receiver that has been suffering from MSS (Mark Sanchez Sux) Syndrome, and still have Jacoby Jones, he really turned the corner last year. Rounding out our receiving corps is former first rounders Steve Smith and Ted Ginn, Jr. (who, despite the knocks against him, is still a great punt returner and is good for a crucial play every now and again). Tight End: Ed Dickson/Michael Egnew Leonard Pope Levine Toilolo -Bad news is, we lost Pitta. Good news is, we kept Ed Dickson. We also acquired Egnew from Miami. We believe Egnew has the tools to be great tight end to pair with Dickson (and I have that much faith in my TE and Receivers Coach, who he will be working with). Leonard Pope is a great blocker and a good target in the redzone. As a matter of fact, him and Toilolo will be used in quite a bit of redzone packages. Left Tackle: Michael Oher Guy Whimper Left Guard: Richie Incognito Alvin Bailey Center: Eugene Amano Jeff Byers (also plays Right Guard) Right Guard: TJ Lang Jeff Byers (also plays Center) Right Tackle: Winston Justice Reid Fragel -I'm going to be honest. While I have faith in our first stringers, our seconds stringers have a lot to prove. Jeff Byers and Guy Whimper has experience, but Reid Fragel and Alvin Bailey are rookies, and I'm concerned about Fragel's lack of aggressiveness. Fortunately, our front line is not too injury-prone, and I expect them to provide more than enough protection to allow Michael Vick to play it cool int he pocket. Defense Left End: Arthur Jones Brent Russell Nose Tackle: Anthony Rashad White Brandon McKinney Right End: Brandon Mebane Pernell McPhee -We lost three pivotal linemen. Fortunately, we were able to acquire Brandon Mebane, who has been a fixture on the Seahawk's line for his whole career and is still pretty young at 28. We also reacquired Brandon McKinney, an underrated player at the Nose Tackle position, to back up drafted Anthony Rashad White, who should have gone earlier in the draft. Left Outside Linebacker: Shea McClellin Brandon Jenkins Josh Kaddu (also plays Left Inside Linebacker) Left Inside Linebacker: Jameel McClain Jonathan Stewart/Josh Kaddu (also plays Left Outside Linebacker) Right Inside Linebacker: Paul Posluszny ILB $8,500,000 Zaviar Gooden ILB $575,000 Right Outside Linebacker: Courtney Upshaw Mike Catapano -This was the main unit of focus. While Ray Lewis retired, we were able to trade for Paul Posluszny, a great Inside Linebacker who's essential in coverage, to pair with Jameel McClain. To pair with Courtney Upshaw, we traded for Shea McClellin, a former first round pick from last year's draft who is best used in the 3-4. He's so versatile, I was high considering put him at one of the Inside Linebacker spots. With that said, I believe he can provide the pass rush we need. Backing up Courtney and Shea are Brandon Jenkins, whose injuries are the only reason he was not taken in the first round, and Mike Catapano, who showed in the Shrine Game that he can stop the run and rush the passer. Plus, Mike's a Princeton grad, so smarts won't be an issue. Cornerback: Corey Graham Jimmy Smith David Amerson Jimmy Wilson/Mike Harris Free Safety: Michael Griffin Haruki Nakamura Strong Safety: Kenny Vaccaro Brandon Merriweather -This is the main strength of our defense. Corey Graham and Jimmy Smith showed that they belong as one of the best starting cornerback duos in the league. Amerson has the ball skills, speed, and size to be a starting corner in this league, which is a must in a league where 3+ Receiver sets are becoming a common thing. Manning the last two spots are Jimmy Wilson and Mike Harris, who will be putting in a lot of work at the dime position. Our safety position is one to be feared. Three of our four safeties have a very significant amount of quality starting experience in the NFL. Kenny Vaccaro has range and the strength for run support. Michael Griffin is a ball hawk. I expect these two safeties to be duo to be feared in the league. Special Teams Kicker: Brett Baer Punter: Donnie Jones Long Snapper: Morgan Cox Holder: Landry Jones Kick Returner: Jacoby Jones Marcus Thigpen Punt Returner: Ted Ginn, Jr. John White -We kept our long snapper. After flipping our kicker for a third rounder, we acquired Brett Baer in the 7th round of the draft, who has a strong leg and is accurate. We signed Donnie Jones, who is a great punter to have and will do a lot of favors for our Punt Coverage team. Our returners, minus John White (who is a rookie -- though we expect him to do some damage as well), aren't exactly the type of people you want to kick to. At all.
COACHING STAFF [TABLE="width: 135, align: center"] [TR] [TD]HC[/TD] [TD]Chip Kelly[/TD] [/TR] [TR] [TD]OC[/TD] [TD]Hue Jackson[/TD] [/TR] [TR] [TD]DC[/TD] [TD]Rex Ryan[/TD] [/TR] [/TABLE] Offense Under a new General Manager, the Philadelphia Eagles came into this off-season with big changes in mind. In the front office, they hired a new head coach and coordinators to begin the transition. Chip Kelly will plan to bring his up-tempo spread offense to the new look Eagles. Although his game plan will have to adapt, much of what Kelly has been able to accomplish at Oregon should translate well with the personnel currently on the roster. Obviously, Kelly’s offense will have more of a traditional feel to it in the NFL. But make no mistake about it, Kelly is an offensive mastermind, able to create plays molded off of his players. If you wish to learn more about Kelly’s Offensive Philosophy, I invite you to visit the following link and read the materials: Chip Kelly Spread Offense Analysis Names are hyper linked to highlights. QB: Cam Newton - Tarvaris Jackson By far the biggest personnel acquisition of the off-season was trading for Cam Newton. Newton brings the versatility, leadership, and pure ability to run a Chip Kelly offense in the NFL. There is no other player out there who could fit this offense better. RB: LeSean McCoy - Ryan Matthews - Michael Bush - Zac Stacy LeSean McCoy will continue to lead this backfield with his elite talent. However, we’ve been forced to build depth at the position due to a history of injuries. Additions to the depth chart include Ryan Matthews, Michael Bush, and rookie Zac Stacy from Vanderbilt. Matthews was unable to grow into his potential in San Diego, however he possesses an outstanding athletic ability to be a transitional 2 down back if needed. Michael Bush was added to be the “thunder” to the “lightning” if you will. At 6’1” and 245 lbs, Bush is a bruiser and will be utilized on 3rd and short situations. The rookie Zac Stacy was an interesting addition late in the draft. Slotted to be a 5th or 6th round draft prospect, Stacy fell all the way to the Eagles comp pick in the 7th round. FB: Dwayne Allen - Michael Bush Another addition to the team was Colt’s TE Dwayne Allen. Allen is an exciting athlete in regards to his ability to be both a blocking and a receiving threat. One of the NFL’s best H Backs with only one year in, Allen will provide even more versatility for Chip Kelly’s playbook. Bush Provides an alternate to Allen at FB. WR: Mike Williams - Mohamed Sanu - Riley Cooper WR: Brandon LaFell - Mohamed Massaqoui - Aaron Mellette The wide receiver corps was completely remodeled this offseason. We are extremely excited with the young talent we have combined at the position. The top of the depth chart includes Mike Williams (the good one), Brandon LaFell, and Mohammed Sanu in the slot. All three are young big receivers with solid hands and can block down field. The receiving corps size and physicality will be able to create mismatches down field as well as yards after catch. Adding depth are Massaqoui, Cooper, and rookie Aaron Mellette. TE: Zach Miller – Dwayne Allen - Logan Paulsen One of the biggest free agent acquisitions was tight end Zach Miller. Miller is one of the rare athletes able to block as well as he can receive. In recent years, teams have limited his role as a receiver, but Philadelphia will look to bring him back to his glory days in Oakland. Again we see Dwayne Allen’s name… continuing with his versatility, Allen will be able to line up all over the field. Adding Paulsen as depth gives us an extremely solid blocker. LT: Jason Peters - Anthony Collins LG: Evan Mathis - David Bakhtiari C: Jason Kelce - Matt Tenant RG: Todd Herremans - Jake Scott RT: Chris Hairston - Dennis Kelly The offensive line took a beating last year, losing almost every starter to injury. Holding down the fort at left tackle continues to be Jason Peters. Before the injury, Peter’s was widely regarded as one of the best LT in football. Although he tore his Achilles preseason last year, it was reported that he could have returned at the end of the season although he and the team opted not to. Reports of his health have been promising and we are moving forward expecting him to continue to produce over the next couple years as a franchise tackle. Evan Mathis at left guard was one of the best at his position last year. He provided possibly the only stable cog to the line last year. Before going down to injury, Kelce has been one of the best young and upcoming centers in the game. Todd Herremans will move inside to RG after playing tackle last season. Acquired via trade, Chris Hairston will anchor the right tackle position. Since being drafted in 2011 by the Buffalo Bills, Hairston has grown into a solid right tackle putting up a positive PFF grade of 5.3 last year playing both left and right tackle. Philadelphia also added solid veteran depth to the offensive line with Collins, Tenant, Scott, and Kelly. In the draft, we selected David Bakhtiari. A player who fell to us in the 5th round, Bakhtiari is a versatile prospect who can grow into a starter at either guard or tackle. Defense On the defensive side of the ball, the Eagles brought in Rex Ryan as defensive coordinator. Although he catches flack for being a fat *******, there is no denying the fact that he is one of the best defensive coaches in the NFL. The Eagles will run a 3-4 base defense, but have the personnel to run any number of sub formations. The organization wanted the defense to get bigger and more physical, and that is just what we did this off-season. DE: Fletcher Cox - William Gholston NT: Vince Wilfork - Barry Cofield - Sammie Hill DT: Marcell Dareus - Sen'Derrick Marks On the outside of the three man front, the Eagles added Marcell Dareus to the opposite of last year’s first round selection, Fletcher Cox. Anchoring the nose will be big man Vince Wilfork, playing his original 2 gap scheme. Cox will transition to a 5 technique, while Dareus will expectedly play the Ngata/Smith 3/5 hybrid technique providing the best matchups on downs. Depth at the nose tackle position couldn’t get any sweeter with the additions of Cofield and Hill. Cofield also has the ability to play on the outside if needed. Sen’Derrick Marks and rookie William Gholston add depth on the outside, although we look for Cox and Dareus to handle a heavy bulk of the work. LOLB: Ahmad Brooks - Steve Beauharnais - Aaron Maybin ILB: Bart Scott - AJ Klein - Johnathan Freeny ILB: Mychal Kendricks -Jamar Chaney ROLB: Brandon Graham - Victor Butler Anchoring the inside of the linebacking corps is veteran defender Bart Scott, formerly of the Jets. Although age can be a concern, Scott is a viable two down run stopper on the interior and adds veteran leadership to this young group of guys. Rookie AJ Klein will develop into Scott’s eventual replacement, while mainly playing in a 3rd down role behind Scott. Kendricks move’s inside under the new 3-4 scheme. Although he’s considered slightly undersized, Kendricks is an extremely physical player who we believe will make the transition seamlessly. On the outside, the Eagles added Ahmad Brooks through trade. Brooks has developed into one of the best strongside linebackers in the game. Often undervalued on the stout 49ers defense, Brooks put up a solid PFF grade of 10.9 in 2012. One of the biggest transitions this defense will have to make will be last year’s top DE Brandon Graham moving to OLB in the 3-4. However, Graham has the athletic ability and past experience with the position to make it work. In addition, the acquisition of Victor Butler in free agency provides depth at either OLB position. CB: Darrelle Revis - Sheldon Brown - Curtis Marsh CB: Antonio Cromartie - Sanders Commings - Cliff Harris Once again, completely revamping the defense consisted of bringing in a new secondary. Before his injury, Revis was considered the best in the game, and we have no doubt watching different reports that he will return to his former self. On the other side will be Cromartie who has worked side bye side with Revis in New York. With Revis out last year, Cromartie earned himself another Pro Bowl slot. His biggest knock is against his run defending, which last year he proved to be one of the better shut down corner backs against the run surprisingly. Following that commanding duo will be a camp battle between veteran Sheldon Brown and rookie Sanders Commings. This front office is very high on Commings, and we fully expect him to come in at the beginning of the season as the nickel back. If not, Brown will provide that role without a problem after putting up a solid season in 2012 posting a PFF grade of 7.9. FS: Kenny Phillips - Duke Williams SS: Kam Chancellor - Danny McCray Through a trade with the Seahawks, the Eagles acquired Kam Chancellor who we feel is one of the best young safeties playing the game. A physical player who can still play coverage is a commodity that this front office was happy to jump on. One of our biggest free agency acquisitions was landing FS Kenny Phillips. When healthy, Phillips can be one of the top FS in the NFL. However, injuries have hampered his past few seasons. That is why in the draft we selected Duke Williams, who we feel was sorely undervalued by most teams in the draft. K: Alex Henery P: Britton Colquit LS: Jon Dorenbos They're special. [HR][/HR] Trade Time [HR][/HR] Free Agent Signings Anthony Collins OT $480,000 -Veteran starter added for depth. Aaron Maybin OLB $480,000 -A depth player who's never come to fruition, but the talent is there. Zach Miller TE $5,250,000 -One of the top underated players in the game. Terrific hands and blocking skills. An all around great TE. Cliff Harris CB $480,000 -Skills wasted by an attitude... we'll give him a chance. Bart Scott LB $1,200,000 -Veteran leadership with experience in Ryans 3-4. Sammie Hill NT $500,000 -A solid DT lost in the depth chart at Detroit. In 2013, he'll make a splash somewhere. Kenny Phillips FS $2,000,000 -We feel this one was a steal. When healthy, Phillips is among the best at the position. Tarvaris Jackson QB $500,000 -Back up. Logan Paulson TE $500,000 -Solid blocking TE. Sen'Derrick Marks DE $500,000 -Situational player. Jake Scott OG $500,000 -Veteran depth. Britton Colquit P $500,000 -Yay, punter. Jon Dorenbos LS $500,000 -Yay, LS. Michael Bush RB $3,500,000 -Needed a hard hitting power back to complement McCoy and Mathews.... and we hit this one out the park. At times, lining up both McCoy and Bush provides a lethal back field. Victor Butler LB $2,900,000 -Excellent situational pass rusher who can give Graham a run for his money on the outside. If Graham doesn't pan out at OLB, this is our safety valve. Mohamed Massaquoi WR $480,000 -Skills and depth. Danny McCray S $480,000 -Depth. Barry Cofield NT/DE $5,000,000 -A late round cut, Cofield has been an underated NT on the Redskins. He's also versatile enough to play on the outside at DE if needed. We had to swoop in a take this guy to back up Vince in the middle of the line. Now with Wilfork, Cofield, and Hill? Good lord. [HR][/HR] A Look Back at the Draft Overall, we feel that we were able to get exceptional value this late in the draft. +163 overall, with one player falling later (Mellette). 5.3 (131) - OT/OG David Bakhtiari, Colorado -Slightly undersized at this point of his career, we expect David to put on some pounds once he starts with NFL level conditioning. As a depth player, he offers versatility at either guard or tackle if his name was called. With time, he could become a solid starter at RG as Herremans age might become a factor. At pick 131, we couldn't let him slip any further. -Actual Draft Position: Round 4 (109) 5.25 (153) - Via Seattle - DE William Gholston, Michigan St. -Gholston's body has not fully matured yet to fill out his 6'6" frame. With some added weight, and some work on his technique, Gholston can become a solid 3-4 DE. At the minimum, he can provide a solid 3rd down pass rush option with his ability to gain leverage and get around tackles on the outside. -Actual Draft Position: Round 4 (126) 5.26 (154) - Via Denver - CB Sanders Commings, Georgia -Probably our biggest sleeper coming into this draft was Sanders Commings. He is surprisingly fast and agile for a 6'1" 215 lbs corner. Commings biggest asset is his ability to play press coverage, which will fit perfectly with this physical Eagles secondary. His biggest weakness is his tackling, and needs to work on wrapping up rather than just throwing a brutal shoulder blow. -Actual Draft Position: Round 5 (134) 5.27 (155) - Via San Fransisco - LB AJ Klein, Iowa St. -Klein is an intense instinctual LB, who may not be the fastest or most agile, but knows how to play the ball. He also is a superb tackler and plays well against the run. It's also an added benefit that he has been noted to be a great leader on and off the field. Over time, he should develop into a solid 4 down LB in the NFL. -Actual Draft Position: Round 5 (148) 6.5 (165) - S Duke Williams, Nevada -Williams has all the makings of a big time playmaker in the NFL. The main issue with his game stems from his aggressiveness, which causes Williams to play himself out of position too much. He will also need to bulk up a bit. But at this point in the draft, Williams provided great value. We wouldn't be surprised to see him sneak into the 4th or 5th round. -Actual Draft Position: Round 4 (105) 6.26 (186) - Via 49ers - WR Aaron Mellette, Elon -We'll be the first to admit that we missed out on a few late round receiver prospects that we had our eyes on, but we were still happy to land Mellette. He has all the physical tools to become a big play receiver at the next level. However, the lack of competition at his level at Elon leaves many question marks on his effectiveness at the next level. He did look good solid in the Senior Bowl, so we felt he was worth a late round flyer to see what he can develop into. -Actual Draft Position: Round 7 (238) 7.C10 - Via Comp - RB Zac Stacy, Vanderbilt -A pure value pick at this point, we were surprised to see Stacy go almost undrafted. Although he's only 5'9", Stacy plays like mauler consistently breaking through arm tackles and pushing the pile forward. Just take a look at his numbers from the combine: -Actual Draft Position: Round 5 (160) UDFA: LB Steve Beauharnais, Rutgers -We believe Beauharnais has the versatility to provide depth at any position on the linebacking corps. With some development, we believe he can become more than just the run stopper he's projected to be. -Actual Draft Position: Round 7 (235) [HR][/HR] Practice Squad Dax Swanson, DB Ryan Spadola, WR Nate Williams, LB Keelan Johnson, DB Jakar Hamilton, DB

OL philosophy is a Zone Blocking Scheme with a strong interior and players who can get to the second level. Versatility was very important. Depth Chart Offense: QB QB1: Russell Wilson - Accurate Qb whose mobility is a great fit for the West Coast Offense. QB2: Chad Henne - Less mobile and accurate but can manage a game. In this case, just turn and hand off. RB RB1: Trent Richardson - Clear starter. Good between tackles with good speed. Ace in pass game. RB2: Shonn Greene - He got 1000 yards for the Jets. With Mark Sanchez as his QB and 8 man fronts. RB3: Moreno - Finally came to life late last year. Talent has always been there. RB4: Bryce Brown - Change of pace back with bg play ability. RB5: Marcus Lattimore - Could eventually start but hes getting a redshirt year unless pressed in to duty. Will eventually be the best back from this draft imo. WR WR Z: Mike Wallace - Laurent Robinson - Split Ends who stretch the field. Smith fits as well. WR X: Steve Smith - Lestar Jean - Flankers who can make plays short or deep. Tate fits as well. Slot: Golden Tate - Ace Sanders - Short area speed was a priority here. Can use Jean or Robinson's height since Robinson excelled there with Dallas in 2011. OL LT: Roger Saffold - Kyle Long - Light but agile. Saffold has done well 2 of the last 3 years. Long is insurance and a great LT prospect. Long can play guard as well. LG: Matt Slauson - Paul McQuistan - Joe Berger - Slauson is one of the more underrated guards around. McQuistan started for Seattle in 2011. C: Max Unger - Joe Berger - Unger is elite but dominant as a run blocker. Berger is there because he can play all 3 interior OL positions. RG: John Moffitt - Joe Berger - Paul McQuistan - Osemele - Lots of depth and good run blockers. Osemele played well there in 2012.... RT: Kelechi Osemele - Sean Locklear - But Osemele was even better in the playoffs as a RT. Locklear is insurance in case Osemele has to be kicked inside to RG. Defense depth charts...Primary defense is a 3-3-5 but we will feature 3-4 and 4-3 looks as well because we have the personnel to do so and to keep QB's guessing. Smart football players were a priority. In the 3-3-5 we will use press man coverage with over the top safety help (cover 2 press man). 3-3-5 Base Defense: Closed End (LDE) - Lines up over outside shoulder of RG as a 3 technique - Justin Smith/Justin Bannan - Powerful DE played closed end with SF and will have similar responsibility here Nose Tackle - Lines up in 0 technique directly over C - Terrence Cody/Abrayo Franklin/Torell Troup - All these player anchor well and while they wont get a lot of QB pressure they are stout vs the run and have played this spot before. Open End (RDE) - Lines up in 3 technique with the idea to have him matched up on the LG - Derrick Morgan/Austen Lane - Morgan had a tremendous sophomore season after a poor rookie year. Lane can sub in. Leo LB (LOLB) - Bruce Irvin/Akeem Ayers - Irvin is an absolute beast as a rusher and his speed is what makes this hybrid D possible. Ayers shifts from Joker LB when Irvin is rested. MLB - Bobby Wagner/Leroy Hill/Manti Te'o - This position needs a player that can run, call out assignments and cover. Joker LB (ROLB) - Akeem Ayers/Manti Te'o - Ayers had a great year last year in this role for Tennesee. The only difference was that it came out of a 4-3 front. Te'o is a downhill player so he can also assume this role. CB1 - Richard Sherman - Best CB last year. PFF's best rating score wise since Revis in 2010. CB2 - Champ Bailey - Older but had a solid year last year matching up vs teams #1's. Slot - Brandon Boykin - 2nd year player with a high upside Dime - Richard Marshall - Does his best work inside and now he will stay there. Will play FS in case of injury 5th CB - Logan Ryan/Jerron Johnson - 2 developmental guys with nice upsides. FS - Earl Thomas - One of the games best safeties will lend over the top help on Bailey's side at all times. SS - Kerry Rhodes - Solid player who causes turnovers. Better in the box safety at this point. 3-4 Defense - Traditional 3-4 base D look with the same coverage techniques. For that reason I'm only listing the front 7 here. Closed End (LDE) - Lines up on the outside shoulder of RG as a 3 technique - Justin Smith/Justin Bannan - Powerful DE played closed end with SF and will have similar responsibility here Nose Tackle - Lines up in 0 technique directly over C - Terrence Cody/Abrayo Franklin/Torell Troup - All these player anchor well and while they wont get a lot of QB pressure they are stout vs the run and have played this spot before. Open End (RDE) - Lines up in 3 technique with the idea to have him matched up on the LG - Derrick Morgan/Austen Lane - Morgan had a tremendous sophomore season after a poor rookie year. Lane can sub in. LOLB - Bruce Irvin/Keith Rivers - Again, just get after the QB and play downhill. LILB - Bobby Wagner/ Thomas Davis - Aligning him here behind a 3 technique in Smith will keep linemen off him. Guard on Smith, RT on Irvin, C on RILB allows Wagner/Davis to run free and make plays. RILB - Manti Te'o/Keith Brooking - Defeat the C and play as kind of a robber in the passing game. Can also be used as a shadow in pass D. ROLB - Akeem Ayers/Keith Rivers - 7 sacks/4 hits/10 hurries in just 133 pass rushing snaps last year for Tennessee. Had 45 stops so he can definitely make plays at or around the LOS. 4-3 Defensive Alignment - Like 3-4, Im only listing the front 7 since the secondary coverages will remain the same. Will primarily use this in instances where we want to pressure the QB. Isolating Justin Smith inside is a big part of why this works as we like him in the "Justin Tuck role" staying in a 3 technique and isolated on a guard. LDE - Bruce Irvin/Austen Lane LDT - Justin Smith - Under Tackle, 3 technique RDT - Terrence Cody/Abrayo Franklin - Over Tackle, 1 technique RDE - Derrick Morgan/Austen Lane WOLB - Thomas Davis/Leroy Hill - Cover flats MLB - Bobby Wagner/Manti Te'o SOLB - Akeem Ayers/Keith Rivers - Cover flats, will blitz. Rantisi took over the 49ers franchise on February 8th, 2013. Although it took the rookie GM a few hours to get his head wrapped around all the rules and the forum itself, he did not hesitate to get to work. As the new GM, Rantisi felt like he had to keep the core pieces of the original team, with the exception of the receiving core, and go from there. Maintaining a west coast offense and a 3-4 defense was also determined from Day 1. Although Rantisi is not a fan of making drastic changes to a roster, this forum league was an exception. The first question he asked himself was "who's my starting quarterback?" You have Kaepernick who lit it up in his 10 starts, he started the Superbowl and he looks extremely promising. On the other hand, Alex Smith is a former number 1 overall pick who was just starting to get into a rhythm with Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. Alex Smith was exceptional in his 2012 performance before he suffered a concussion. Although Rantisi originally shopped Alex Smith around, he felt that either quarterback could still be the starter for the San Francisco 49ers. With that being said, Rantisi found no suitors for veteran quarterback Alex Smith. So what if Kaepernick was put on the block? Instant interest. Many teams bit on the hook when hearing that Kaepernick was available for trade. In short, general manager Rantisi traded Colin Kaepernick to the San Diego Chargers for 3 draft selections (2nd, 2nd, & 4th) as well as receiver Stevie Johnson, young stud Melvin Ingram at outside linebacker and safety Brandon Taylor. Rantisi feels that he received great return on trading Kaepernick, who's main argument against him is his lack of NFL experience. (Link for entire Kaepernick trade and what the 49ers received after the NFL Draft was resolved - click here) After establishing a starter, Rantisi went out to make sure Alex Smith had weapons to throw to. Previous GM phinsational had already started to make moves at the position in his brief stint as the General Manager. GM Phinsational traded Michael Crabtree to the Broncos in a trade to bring in Eric Decker. His second and final trade was the trade with the Redskins to send receiver Mario Manningham and cornerback Tarrel Brown for receiver Pierre Garcon. Both trades will be listed below. 1. Michael Crabtree, WR, $5,859,000 Frank Gore, RB, $6,459,000 3.95 5.159 Denver sends: Eric Decker, WR, $1,506,037 Derek Wolfe, DT, $1,193,582 1.28 7.220 2. Mario Manningham, WR, $4,950,000 Tarrel Brown, CB, $1,907,312 Washington sends: Pierre Garcon, WR, 8,200,000 After assessing both trades, GM Rantisi loved the first trade. Although you give up your starting runningback in Frank Gore, you get rid of an overrated Michael Crabtree who was looking to receive a $5.8M contract. You bring in a young Eric Decker who should serve as the number 2 receiver on your team and Derek Wolfe who will replace Justin Smith at the defensive end position. You exchange a 3rd and a 5th for a 1st and a 7th as well. Great trade. GM Rantisi was not too fond of the second trade. Although Rantisi would have done away with Manningham eventually, his job was already done for him. Except Pierre Garcon would not have been his choice to bring in as the number 1 receiver on the team. You add his $8.2M contract and Rantisi already knew Garcon had to go. Rantisi traded Garcon to the Packers for Randall Cobb. (Packers trade: WR Randall Cobb, DE Ryan Pickett, 7.218 - 49ers trade: WR Pierre Garcon, RB Kendal Hunter, 2.63) Rantisi was willing to give up a 2nd round selection in order to bring in his slot receiver. No sleep was lost at letting Garcon go. GM Rantisi remained patient when it came to finding his number 1 wideout. After remaining in occasional contact with GM PSG of the Green Bay Packers, a tag and trade was in the works. The original offer on the table for premier receiver Greg Jennings was the 62nd pick of the draft. In short, the agreement came down to the 48th overall draft selection for Greg Jennings. What did this mean? The 49ers were willing to part ways with one of their four 2nd round draft selections (all from trade), in order to secure their number one wide receiver. This meant that the 49ers had to take on Jennings' $10.5M contract. GM Rantisi made sure he had enough cap space to compensate for the addition of Greg Jennings, applying the franchise tag to safety Dashon Goldson ($6.9M), as well as having enough left over for free agency and the draft. All in all, more could be said about the decisions that were made and why they were made, but below will show a short summary on why each player received a roster spot. Rantisi felt that he had to keep as many players as he could from the 2012 season, but those who would serve a roll and purpose. Also, he felt that bringing back a handful of players who were impending free agents was needed. (Isaac Sopoaga, Dashon Goldson, Brian Jennings (LS), Joe Looney (Practice Squad)) Offense: Quarterback - 1) Alex Smith - chosen to be starter after Kapernick trade 2) Mike Glennon - big arm, tall, 4th round steal - pocket mobility is his weakness 3) Case Keenum - HUGE college numbers, could serve as a viable #3 QB Runningback - 1) Maurice Jones Drew - After Frank Gore trade, needed to bring in another bruiser at RB 2) LaMichael James - offensive weapon, big play ability 3) Rashad Jennings - MJD's back up in Jacksonville, good size, should serve as #2 RB if MJD needs a break 4) Bruce Miller (FB) Wide Receiver - 1) Greg Jennings - brought in via tag and trade as #1 receiver, 49ers felt he was undervalued around the league, thought it was a steal 3) Randall Cobb (Slot) - great young receiver, promising career ahead of him, offensive weapon, will prove to be a great asset for Alex Smith 5) Donald Jones - added depth, solid back up numbers with Buffalo in 2012[SIZE=2][B][B] Wide Receiver - [B]2) Eric Decker - [/B][/B][/B][/SIZE][B][B][B][SIZE=2]#2 receiver brought in from Denver, should be a good compliment opposite side of Greg Jennings[/SIZE][B][B][SIZE=2][B][B][B] 4) Keenan Allen - [/B][/B][/B][/SIZE][B][B][B][SIZE=2]Yet another weapon for QB Smith, can learn behind 3 great receivers, will be used in 4 receiver sets to spread defenses out[/SIZE][B][B][SIZE=2][B][B][B] 6) Marcus Davis - [/B][/B][/B][/SIZE][B][B][B][SIZE=2]Great size, could be a break out player, solid 7th round selection [/SIZE][B][B][SIZE=2][B][B][B] Tight End - [B]1) Vernon Davis - [/B][/B][/B][/B][/SIZE][B][B][B][SIZE=2]What more can be said? Entering the 2013 season fresh off consecutive first round playoff exits, my goal was to transform this young squad into a Superbowl contender. The 2012 Bengals had a solid base, but lacked difference makers and star power. With had 11 impending free agent starters needing to be replaced, we feel we accomplished our goal of adding playmakers on both sides of ball while upgrading the teams starters and overall depth. Offensively we transformed a young receiving corp and solid, if not uninspiring RB group into arguably the most explosive offense in the league. We have provided our young Pro bowl QB with plenty of weapons to continue his development. Our offensive philosphy is to have a balanced offensive attack with multiple formations. We can go big with FB(Michael Robinson) and 2 TE (Gresham, Bennett) or spread you out wide with our deep group of WRs. Not only have we provided Dalton with an explosive and diverse group of receivers, but have given him a QBs best friend with a top 5 RB in Ray Rice. Quarterback 1. Andy Dalton (25) – 3,669 yards, 27 TD, 87.4 QB rating, 1 Pro-Bowl 2. Matt Cassell (30) – 9 GP, 1,796 yards, 1 Pro-Bowl Andy Dalton doesn’t have the national prowess of Luck or RG3 (must be the red-headed step child syndrome), but has been just as impressive leadings the Bengals to the playoffs in his first 2 seasons while making the Pro-Bowl his rookie year. With a career TD:INT ratio of 1.6 and over 7,000 passing yards, Dalton deserves to be mentioned in the same breathe, and before most, of the young up and coming QBs in the league. With a record of 53-16 over this last 5 season (3 at TCU), he is a flat out WINNER. Cassell fizzled as a starter after a successful 2010 season, but is veteran backup who is capable of starting in a pinch. Running Back 1. Ray Rice (26) – 1,621 total yards, 4.4 YPC, 9 TDs, 2x All-Pro 2. LaRod Stephens-Howling (25) – 356 yards, 4 TDs 3. Mike Gillislee (22) – 5th round pick 4. Latavius Murray (22) – 6th round pick 5. FB Michael Robinson (30) – 4.1 YPC, 13 Rec, 126 yards, 2 TDs, Pro-bowl One of the biggest improvements is the addition of Ray Rice, who is a big upgrade over BenJarvus Green-Ellis and provides us with a Top 5 (possibly top 3) dual threat RB. With over 300 receptions for his career we plan to take advantage of Rice’s versatility. Stephens mostly will see touches as a Returner (3 career return TD). Our 2 rookie RB’s Murray and Gillislee are both considered good all around players. Gillislee has a good blend of speed, size, and power. Murray has tremendous size (6’3 and 220lb) and the best hands of the RBs in the draft. With the multi dimensional offense we want to run, it was important for us to have versatility at the RB position. Going along with our RB theme, FB Michael Robinson was chosen to his first Pro-Bowl for his tremendous season lead blocking for Russell Wilson, while being a dependable receiver (53 catches). Wide Receiver 1. Brandon Marshall (28) – 118 rec, 1,508 yards, 11 TDs, 4x Pro-Bowl 2. Demaryius Thomas (25) – 94 rec, 1,434 yards, 10 TDs, 1 Pro-Bowl 3. Stedman Bailey (22) – 3rd round pick 4. Andrew Hawkins (27) – 51 rec, 533 yards, 4 TDs 5. Austin Collie (27) – 54 rec, 516 yards, 1 TDs (2011) Even though we traded AJ Green, we feel this group is much more talented than what we started with. The combination of Marshall and Thomas is the best in the league, and what’s best is that they complement each other very well. Thomas will be our vertical threat who broke out last year. Marshall will work in the short and intermediate areas of the field. Both have great size and are good red zone threats as well. Stedman Bailey was the one player we went into the draft knowing we had to get. I feel he is very under rated and is one of the best receivers in this draft. Bailey has the versatility to play in the slot and outside. His last 2 years as West Virginia couldn’t even be replicated in Madden (186 catches, 2901 yards, and 37 TDs). Hawkins broke out last year as the Bengals slot receiver last season. He is small, but very quick and also figures to compete as Punt Returner. Collie is a dependable WR and we are taking the chance that he can reach his pre-injury forms. In all this unit has everything it needs to be dominant and complements each other perfectly with its blend of Speed, Versatility, Yards after Catch, Big Plays, Ability to Move the Chains, and Red Zone Threats. Tight End 1. Jermaine Gresham (24) – 64 rec, 737 yards, 5 TDs, 2x Pro-Bowl 2. Martellus Bennett (26) – 55 rec, 626 yards, 5 TDs 3. Orson Charles (22) – 8 rec, 101 yards One addition we needed to run the versatile offense we wanted was a complete 2nd TE. Going into free agency we had our eye on Bennett. What makes Bennett the perfect fit as the #2 TE is that he’s a great receiver, but also a good blocker which will help in our 2 TE sets. Both Gresham and Bennett can play on the line or flex out into the slot. Our base offense will feature both starting; however both may not be lined up on the line. Offensive Line 1. Andrew Whitworth (31) – 64 straight starts, 2012 Pro-bowl 2. DJ Fluker (22) – 1st round pick 3. Travelle Wharton (31) – 99 starts 4. Chris Spencer (30) – 89 starts 5. Ramon Foster (27) – 42 starts 6. Jammal Brown (31) – 2x Pro-bowl 7. King Dunlap (27) 8. Trevor Robinson (22) – 7 starts as a rookie This is a very experienced group with a few youngsters mixed in. Whitworth is fresh off his first Pro-bowl appearance and we drafted DJ Fluker to start at RT. Fluker projects very similarly to Andre Smith, so the tackle play should remain much the same next season. Foster and Wharton figure to be the starting guards with a combined 141 starts between them. We really like Spencer’s ability to play any interior spot and right now have him penciled in as the starting center, however Trevor Robinson’s play was encouraging last season. Jamaal Brown is one of the more talented tackles in the league, but just can’t stay healthy. Between him and Dunlap we feel good about our depth. ________________________________________ Defensively we had 1 goal. GET.AFTER.THE.QUARTERBACK. With the offensive firepower that we have assembled, teams will be forced to pass against us. The best way to stop an offense that wants to throw the ball is to pressure the quarterback, which will lead to sacks, hurries, fumbles, forced throws, and turnovers. With the talent and combination of pass rushing and run defense our 4 down lineman will provide will allow our linebackers to roam free and make plays. In the secondary we have a young group of talented CBs to go along with 2 safeties that excel in coverage. With the amount of passing we expect to see, we felt it was important to have 2 versatile coverage safeties rather than the typical in the box strong safety. Defensive End 1. Michael Johnson (26) – 52 tack, 11.5 sack 2. Bjorn Werner (22) – 1st round pick 3. Osi Umenyiora (31) – 43 tack, 6 sack, 75 career sacks, 2x All-Pro 4. Vinny Curry (24) – 9 tackles as 2012 2nd rd pick 5. Robert Geathers (28) – 30 tack, 3 sack Michael Johnson anchors this unit after his breakout season with 11.5 sacks. He finally lived up to the potential he showed at Georgia Tech as both a run and pass defender. Werner and Johnson should give us a pair of all around ends, which is hard to find in the NFL. Osi will slide into his ideal role as a 3rd down pass rusher where he can just concentrate on rushing the passer. Geathers was brought back to be our run defender in big sets. Curry is a developing pass rusher after not playing much in his rookie season. Defensive Tackle 1. Geno Atkins (24) – 53 tack, 12.5 sack, 4 FF, 2x All-Pro 2. Jay Ratliff (31) – 38 tack, 2 sack (2011), 4x Pro-Bowl 3. Devon Still (23) – 14 tack, 1 FF as 2012 2nd rd pick 4. Brandon Thompson (23) – 2012 3rd rd pick 5. CJ Mosley (29) – 45 tack, 2.5 sack Geno Atkins fresh off his 2nd consecutive All Pro, 12.5 sack season solidified himself as the best DT in the league. A starting combo of Atkins/Ratliff will provide a lot of pressure up the middle, but are also very good run defenders. Still and Thompson are a pair of high picks from last year that will continue to develop. Mosley will provide solid veteran depth. Linebacker 1. Lawrence Timmons (26) – 106 tack, 6 sack, 3 INT, 2 FF 2. Brian Cushing (26) – 114 tack, 4 sack, 2 INT, 2 FF, All-Pro (2011) 3. Daryl Smith (31) – 107 tack, 3.5 sack, 1 INT, 2 FF (2011) 4. DeAndre Levy (26) – 82 tack, 1 INT 5. James Michael-Johnson (23) – 36 tack as rookie 6. Chris Gocong (29) – 70 tack, 3.5 sack, 2 FF (2011) 7. Vincent Rey (25) – 22 tack, 1 sack 8. Emmanuel Lamur (23) – 19 tack as rookie Timmons and Cushing provide us with excellent pair of all around linebackers just entering their prime. With a combined 30 career turnovers between the 2, our defense is setup to allow both LB’s to roam free and make plays. Daryl Smith will start at the other LB spot, after 7 consecutive seasons with 100+ tackles he faced an injury riddled 2012. We feel this unit is our deepest unit with Levy, Michael-Johnson, and Gocong all starters on their former teams. Cornerback 1. Aqib Talib (27) – 10 games, 40 tack, 2 INT, 19 career INT 2. Dre Kirkpatrick (23) – 2012 1st round pick 3. Josh Robinson (22) – 56 tack, 2 INT 4. Jordan Poyer (22) – 7th round pick 5. Brandon Ghee Talib will slide into the #1 CB spot. Cincy has had great success with talented problem-child DBs in the recent future. Talib has shown the talent to matchup with opposing teams #1 WR. Kirkpatrick was a first round pick last year, but missed most of the year due to injury. If he was in this year’s class, we feel he would be valued very similar to ex-teammate Dee Millner. Robinson, a 3rd round pick from UCF last year, has great quickness and speed (4.29 40) and will man the slot position. Poyer has excellent ball skills (7 INT last year) and can play both inside or out. This is a very young unit with good ball skills and will hopefully take advantage of a lot of hurried throws from opposing quarterbacks. Safety 1. Reggie Nelson (29) – 85 tack, 3 INT, 2 FF 2. Antrel Rolle (30) – 96 tack, 2 INT, 1 FF, All-Pro, 48 straight starts 3. DJ Swearinger (22) – 2nd round pick 4. Amari Spievey (24) – 70 tack, 3 INT (2011) 5. George Iloka (22) Nelson and Rolle (former CB) will start at safety. Both excel in coverage and have good range. With our inexperience at CB, we felt it was important to have 2 veteran safeties to help in coverage. Due to our depth and talent at LB, we didn’t find it necessary to have a in the box safety. We do have the luxury of bringing in DJ Swearinger who showed the skills at South Carolina to play in the box or deep. Swearinger is a head hunter who will make receivers think twice about coming across the middle. We thought very highly of Iloka coming out last season, but didn’t receive much playing time. Specialist 1. Nate Kaeding (30) – 2x All-Pro, 86.2 career % 2. Mat McBriar (33) – 2x All Pro, 45.5 career avg Summary In all we feel that we accomplished our goals and feel that this squad is a SuperBowl contender, if not the favorite. The roster we inherited wasn’t littered with elite players, but through trades, free agency and the draft we feel we made the most of what we were given. There were teams that started out with a lot less talent, who did a good job and turned their team into playoff contenders. There were also teams that started out with elite rosters who in the end have the same caliber team as we do. The Bengals were a middle of the pack roster that we transformed into elite. I'm not going to get into trades and all that. Just a depth chart. You can always check the link below for a more in depth look. Taking on the Bills is a job nobody around here wants so I think I did an alright job with such a bloated roster. For starters I've done something the Bills haven't had since Jim Kelly. A real QB and not one looking to retire out (Bledsoe). I also decided to get ahead of the game. Defenses are moving towards dealing with high powered passing attacks with smaller/lighter defenses. What I built instead is a nasty $34 million run blocking line that is going to get push on even the best DL's combined with 3 RB's who are all capable of big chunk runs and Christine Michael to get the tough yards. It's also quite flexible with 2 TE's capable of splitting out to the slot. This offense is designed to beat you right up the gut in the rush and passing game. On defense I have 2 DE's capable of bringing 20+ sacks easily as a combo who will always keep my DT's singled up. A mix of CB's that are just entering their primes (Wilson, Toler) and promising youth (Johnson/Gratz) backed by a ball hawking FS in Bacarri Rambo. http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?74522-The-Frigid-Buffalo-Bills QB: 1 - Philip Rivers 2 - Kevin Kolb FB: 1 - Dorin Dickerson HB: 1 - CJ Spiller 2 - Kendall Hunter 3 - Mike Goodson 4 - Christine Michael WR: 1 - Malcom Floyd 2 - Darrius Heyward-Bey 3 - Quinton Patton 4 - Josh Morgan 5 - Damaris Johnson LT: 1 - Eugene Monroe 2 - Sam Young LG: 1 - John Greco 2 - Chad Rinehart C: 1 - Brian Schwenke 2 - David Snow 3- Matt Stankiewitch RG: 1 - Donald Thomas 2 - Chad Rinehart RT: 1 - Phil Loadholt 2 - Sam Young TE: 1 - Brent Celek 2 - Scott Chandler 3 - Matt Spaeth LDE: 1 - Mario Williams 2 - Mark Anderson 3 - Travis Long LDT: 1 - Akeem Spence 2 - Gary Gibson 3 - Cedric Thornton RDT: 1 - Fred Evans 2 - Mike Daniels RDE: 1 - Brian Orakpo 2 - Mark Anderson WLB: 1 - Khaseem Greene 2 - Brandon Magee MLB: 1 - Mason Foster 2 - Steven Johnson SLB: 1 - O'Brien Schofield 2 - Cooper Taylor 3 - Travis Long CB: 1 - Josh Wilson (Moves to slot in nickel/dime) 2 - Trumaine Johnson 3 - Greg Toler (Takes over for Wilson when he slides into slot) 4 - Dwayne Gratz 5 - Chykie Brown (backup slot) FS: 1 - Bacarri Rambo 2 - Daimion Stafford SS: 1 - Da'Norris Searcy 2 - Yeremiah Bell 3 - Bradley McDougald K: Josh Scobee P: Andy Lee LS: Garrison Sanborn KR: Quinton Patton PR: Damaris Johnson
New York Jets Starting Lineup Offense Jeremy Kerley (WR) Stephen Hill (WR) D'Brickshaw Ferguson (LT) | Brian Winters (LG) | Nick Mangold (C) | Khaled Holmes (RG) | Austin Howard (RT) | Jake Ballard (TE) Joe Flacco (QB) James Casey (FB) | Steven Jackson (HB) Defense Muhammad Wilkerson (LE) | Kenrick Ellis (NT) | Quinton Coples (RE) Jamie Collins (LOLB) | Demario Davis (LILB) | David Harris (RILB) | Andre Branch (ROLB) Kyle Wilson (LCB) Antoine Cason (RCB)JJ Wilcox (SS) | Glover Quin (FS) New York Jets 2013 Depth Chart Offense: Quarterbacks QB: Joe Flacco – Tyler Wilson The most important thing this offseason was fixing the travesty that was the Jets quarterback situation. Sanchez and Tebow were never going to be the answer. It was a real coup to bring in Joe Flacco who has been consistent coming into the league and starting to emerge as a true star at quarterback. His strong arm will set him apart from past Jets QBs who struggled throwing against the wind. Blaine Gabbert was originally slated to back up Flacco, but he didn’t have the mental toughness to handle the media here. Tyler Wilson is a tough kid with a strong arm, mentally he’ll stare down the rush and take a beating and just get up. He could definitely be a starter some day and should fetch us a second rounder down the line. Running Backs FB: James Casey – Matt Furstenburg HB: Steven Jackson – Robert Turbin – Knile Davis – Joe McKnight – Michael Ford James Casey is one of the best H-Backs in the league and will split time as the starting fullback and third tight end. At running back we brought in a veteran leader with Steven Jackson who’s gone 8 straight seasons with 1,000 yards rushing and can catch out of the backfield, which plays to the strength of Pep’s west coast offense. Robert Turbin is a power runner and will help in short yardages situations, while Knile Davis brings a homerun threat and if he’s put his injuries behind him will be the eventual replacement for Steven Jackson. Joe McKnight returns as our return specialist. Wide Receivers WR: Jeremy Kerley – Aaron Dobson WR: Stephen Hill – Vincent Brown – Nate Burleson WR: Wes Welker Jeremy Kerley was the only consistent WR for the Jets last year and could be a future star in the slot, but proved he can play outside as well. This year he’ll be the number one receiver as we brought in the best slot receiver in the league with Wes Welker who provides a security blanket for Flacco. Stephen Hill is in a make or break year as Vincent Brown could easily be the number two once the regular season hits. Aaron Dobson is a big target that can stride down the field and has some of the best hands in the entire rookie class. Nate Burleson is another veteran who is a capable third or fourth option when healthy. Tight Ends TE: Jake Ballard – John Phillips – James Casey – Matt Furstenburg Jake Ballard looks to be healthy again and offers a big body that can catch the ball and be a red zone threat. The strength of the Tight End unit is their blocking ability that will help reestablish a dominant run game. Though they can catch, they’ll be used more in red zone opportunities. Offensive Line LT: D’Brickshaw Ferguson – Marshall Newhouse LG: Brian Winters – Vladimir Ducasse C: Nick Mangold – Khaled Holmes RG: Khaled Holmes – Mackenzy Bernadeau RT: Austin Howard – David Diehl A top five unit last year, it was important to add some youth to fill the holes at guard. Khaled Holmes is projected to be a guard at the pro level but will see time at center as a backup. Brian Winters replaces Matt Slauson and has great strength so that side shouldn’t miss a beat. Mackenzy Bernadeau started all 16 games for the Cowboys last season brings a lot of experience into a backup role. David Diehl is near the end of his career but brings versatility to the line as he has played all over the line in his time with the Giants. Newhouse struggled as a starter but should be able to fill a hole in a pinch if needed. I fully expect this to remain one of the top lines in the league. Defense: Defensive Line LE: Muhammad Wilkerson – Stephen Bowen NT: Kenrick Ellis – Vaughn Martin – Gilbert Pena RE: Quinton Coples – Joe Kruger Muhammad Wilkerson is coming into his own as one of the elite at his position and continues to anchor the line. Coples had a bright start to his career and will hopefully help apply more pressure this season after a 5.5 sack rookie season. Stephen Bowen is one of the best run stuffing 3-4 ends and could easily start in place of Coples. Kruger is another rush end who’ll have time to develop but has a motor we love and could see a lot of situational rushing downs. The weakest part of the line is up the middle as the raw Kenrick Ellis will have to show he’s ready or we’re looking to add someone in next years draft. Vaughn Martin and Gilbert Pena are big bodies that will be rotated in and out with Ellis. Linebackers LOLB: Lavar Edwards – Lerentee McCray LILB: Demario Davis – Kevin Reddick RILB: David Harris – Takeo Spikes ROLB: Jamie Collins – Andre Branch – Lerentee McCray There was a lot of turnover at the linebacker position. Demario Davis will take over for the departed Bart Scott. The Jets are high on Davis and he is another player who will be forced to show he is ready. A pair of rookies man the outside with Lavar Edwards being a coaches player who is ready to learn and will be a solid pro. Jamie Collins is our stud of the future as he is the most athletic defender on the team that has been lined up all over the field. It will be exciting to see him rush the quarterback and drop back into the coverage. Andre Branch was brought in to be a rush linebacker but could see time as a defensive end as well if he adds more weight. I love Lerentee McCray as he has the ability to rush from anywhere. David Harris and Takeo Spikes offer veteran leadership and steady production. Kevin Reddick will be used as an inside blitzer and be used in limited snaps. Defensive Backs LCB: Kyle Wilson – Tharold Simon – Jeremy Lane SS: JJ Wilcox – Antonio Allen FS: Glover Quin – Earl Wolff RCB: Antoine Cason – Walter Thurmond The defensive back unit is definitely going to be more physical as we brought in Jeremy Lane who is one of the best hand fighters at cornerback in the league, he also happens to be a fearless gunner of special teams. If Walter Thurmond can finally stay healthy he can be a solid starter in the league. Kyle Wilson finally showed significant improvement last season and retains his starting spot, opposite him is a player who hasn’t put it all together but remains a talented player with starting experience in Cason. Glover Quin will make it easier for us to break in a new strong safety. JJ Wilcox is a bit raw but might surprise teams next year, if he’s not ready to go Antonio Allen should be a solid if unspectacular starter, the upside is none of those players are Eric Smith. Earl Wolff is a hard hitter that could steal the strong safety position but also has the ability to cover and play free safety making his versatility valuable. Special Teams P: Robert Malone K: Dusin Hopkins LS: Tanner Purdum KR: Joe McKnight PR: Jeremy Kerley Special teams was solid last year, but this year we brought in Dustin Hopkins who has a much bigger leg than Nick Folk.

No, because most of you haven't been subjected to his alleged "playcalling" Streater managed to be decent in our crap O and should only improve. Ford will be healthy. TE Richard Gordon $581,213 TE David Ausberry $566,475 TE Mickey Shuler $480,000 Neither TE is starting, but they could. One blocks, one catches. Recall when Ausberry did that leaping hurdle thing against the lolfins? Yeah, he's awesome. Wis is too. Brisiel had a bad year, he's better now. Bergstrom was a 3rd rounder, and we all know 3rd rounders are awesome starters. EL Dion Jordan $3,800,000 DE Lamarr Houston $1,078,750 DE Andre Carter $500,000 DE Jack Crawford $525,621 DE Jason Hunter $510,000 DT Jesse Williams $575,000 DT Pat Sims $510,000 DT Christo Bilukidi $505,966 DT Richard Seymour $6,250,000 Jordan, as you know, is clearly the best rookie from the draft, even your adored GM says so. Would you dare disagree with him? Well worth the #3 pick. He'll be playing the Jack/Leo/Elephant/many names role. Not a down lineman. Houston is the same as Veldheer and Wis. Williams suffered from fat hate. People hate fat people, but does this look like some fat slob? No. He's awesome. Pat Sims is a fat slob, but he eats RBs, so he's allowed to be. Richard Seymour's on the reserve list for a sprained labia. OLB Nick Roach $2,600,000 OLB Miles Burris $555,146 OLB Keenan Clayton $575,000 OLB Kaelin Burnett $555,000 ILB Kaluka Maiava $1,100,000 ILB Travis Goethel $600,750 Roach is a versatile player, and will thrive wil his new time and role. Maiava is a popular sleeper, VO said so. Would you argue with a drunk viking? No. Well, maybe if you had a teeny tiny ***** you liked to talk about... Burris was a rookie find last year, Paul himself called him a future Zach Thomas. You wouldn't argue with a British Jewish Asian accountant, would you? The arrogance and intelligence combined would cause your brain to spontaneously combust. CB Leon McFadden $525,000 CB Phillip Adams $1,835,000 CB Brandian Ross $555,000 CB Taiwan Jones $656,250 FS Akwasi Owusu-Ansah $555,000 FS Coye Francies $555,000 FS Chimdi Chekwa $555,000 SS Tyvon Branch $10,900,000 SS Reggie Smith $500,000 There's a battle for FS, because when you have that many awesome people, you let them be awesome. McFadden was drafted even earlier than he was here, which tells you he's ready to start and be awesome. Philip Adams is coming into his own and his brain isn't mush anymore after his 4815162342nd concussion and groin pull. Tyvon Branch was a pro bowler, or pro bowl alternate, or whatever a couple years ago. He's really good. PK Sebastian Janikowski $4,925,000 P Marquette King $480,000 P Shane Lechler $1,600,000 LS Jon Condo $1,308,333 Jano's constantly robbed of pro bowls because people hate the Polish. Learn from this, be a better person. Don't hate the Poles even if they are drunk and smelly and lazy. The strong legged kicker now is insanely accurate too. Plus, he has GHB, so I'm told. Marquette King is a black punter with a strong leg. Reggie Roby was black and awesome, that means King is too. Don't help the man keep them down. Do the right thing and help a brotha out. NOTE: Because of that, this may get moved to the politics section. My roster is so awesome I can carry a couple of pro bowl Special Teamers who don't have super major roles. Easy voting.
COACHING STAFF GM: Die Nasty HC: Mike Munchak OC: Dowell Loggains DC: Jerry Gray Though under a new GM, the Tennessee Titans decided to give Mike Munchak and his staff another year to prove what they can do as a staff. Mike Munchak has been a part of the Titans family for a long time, and we feel he has what it takes to bring success back to the Titans with the right personnel. Below is our current depth chart going into the season: Offense QB: Jake Locker - E.J. Manuel Going into his second season as the starter for the Titans, we are looking for a large jump in production with a full healthy season, along with new weapons for Locker. We were unable to hold onto Hasselbeck as our backup due to his large contract, but we are very happy to add E.J. Manuel to our roster all the way in the 5th round. RB: Marshawn Lynch - Giovanni Bernard - Jamie Harper The running back position is probably the position on our roster with the largest difference on the depth chart. We are very happy to move on from an inconsistent Chris Johnson and onto a very consistent back in Marshawn Lynch. We were lucky to add Giovanni Bernard in the draft to give us a good home run threat in the backfield. FB: Quinn Johnson Quinn Johnson is a holdover from last year, he is young and has solid lead blocking ability. WR: Kenny Britt - Kendall Wright - Damien Williams WR: Danny Amendola - Marc Mariani - Brandon Kaufman The Wide receiver core has changed a bit from the prior season. Kenny Britt is coming back for a healthy start to the season. We moved on from Nate Washington and have added Danny Amendola to add a very good possession style receiver to the core. Kendall Wright is a great receiver who can play all over the field, but should see most of his time in the slot. All of our receivers are movable pieces and can line up in any position. We like Brandon Kaufman as a large red zone target. TE: Jared Cook – Craig Stevens - Taylor Thompson We franchised Jared Cook, to a move TE in our offense. Craig Stevens is an inline TE, who has some receiving ability. Taylor Thompson is a converted DE, that is really young and currently the best blocking TE on our team. LT: Michael Roos- Mike Otto LG: Alex Boone - Kasey Studdard C: Fernando Velasco - Kevin Matthews RG: Brandon Moore - Kasey Studdard RT: David Stewart - Byron Stingily Last year our offensive line was devastated by injuries. Roos and Stewart are returning as solid book ends at tackle, but our interior line has been totally revamped after a very poor performance last year. We traded for Alex Boone, whom we think is one of the best guards in the league, as well as added Brandon Moore via free agency. Though he did not start the season last year at center, Velasco took the position mid year due to injury and graded out as a top 10 center according to PFF. We built our line to be a very solid run blocking line to break holes open Marshawn Lynch, but they are still very good pass blocking. Defense LDE: Kameron Wimbley - Corey Lemonier - Scott Solomon DT: Star Lotulelei - Karl Klug DT: Jurell Casey - Mike Martin RDE: Israel Idonije - Cornelius Washington - Karl Klug Our line has changed quite a bit from the previous year. We feel really lucky to have picked up Isreal Idonije in free agency to play on the opposite side of Kameron Wimbley. Our interior line got a boost from our number one pick in Star Lotulelei. Our run defense was porous last year, and we feel with the additions of Idonije and Lotulelei it will be much improved up front. Rookie pass rushers Lemonier and Washington should come in and add instant help putting pressure on QBs as situational pass rushers in their rookie years. Klug will also play all across our Defensive front. LOLB: Zach Brown - Patrick Bailey - Michael Mauti MLB: Colin McCarthy - Vince Williams - Michael Mauti ROLB: Erin Henderson - Tim Shaw - Michael Mauti Colin McCarthy had a very good rookie year at middle linebacker for the Titans, but got injured early in his sophmore year for the Titans. He should come back and be effective again this year. Erin Henderson was a great addition in Free Agency and we feel like he can play all our linebacker positions, but will start at ROLB opposite of Zach Brown who is coming off a very good year. Vince Williams and Mauti are great rookie additions, who should play and be effective in sub packages. CB: Jason McCourty - Jeraud Powers- Tommie Campbell CB: Alteraun Verner - Blidi Wreh-Wilson - Coty Sensabaugh Jason McCourty and Alteraun Verner are returning starters at corner. Jeraud Powers was a great addition in Free agency, he will come in and play outside opposite McCourty in three wide receiver sets while Verner will move inside and cover the slot. Blidi Wreh-Wilson was a great addition in the draft and should play quite a bit during the year, he gives us a large corner presence which we don't have otherwise. FS: Dawan Landry - Jonathan Cyprien - Al Afalava SS: Bernard Pollard - Jonathan Cyprien We have a totally new look safety group from last year. We had very poor play at both positions last year, and along with our guard position it was our position of greatest need. We feel we did a very good job upgrading the position through trade, free agency, and the draft. Landry, Pollard, and Cyprien can all 3 play both safety positions and be effective both in the box and in coverage. We feel was a great addition via the draft even though we already found starters in Landry and Pollard. This position has turned into a position of strength. K: Matt Prater P: Brett Kern LS: Beau Brinkley Kick Ball good. Trade Time Miami trades: Jeff Fuller, WR, $405,000.00, a fifth round draft selection (#141 overall) Tennessee trades: Nate Washington, WR, $5,100,000.00 We felt fortunate to get something for Nate Washington, whom we were going to cut either way. San Francisco trades: Alex Boone, OG, $1,940,000.00 Tennessee trades: Chris Johnson, RB, $12,000,000.00, a seventh round draft selection (#200 overall) This was one of the defining moves of our off season. We were not interested in paying the steep cost for a running back who we felt was way too inconsistent We were lucky to get a player of need, whom we thought was one of the best players at his position. Baltimore trades: Second round pick (#64) Tennessee trades: Michael Griffin, S, $6,300,000.00 Michael Griffin was a player whom we thought about cutting, his coverage was awful and he didn't give us what we wanted from the position last year. This pick turned into Giovanni Bernard, that's a steal in our opinion. Jacksonville trades: Dawan Landry, S, $6,700,000.00 Tennessee trades: 5th round pick (#137) Safety was a position of great need for us, we felt this was a trade that would greatly improve our team. Seattle trades: Marshawn Lynch, RB, 8,500,000.00, 3rd round pick (#89) Tennessee trades: Akeem Ayers, LB, $1,343,595.00, Derrick Morgan, DE, $2,521,668.00 4th round pick (#106) Though Akeem Ayers and Derrick Morgan were key players for us last year, we felt that Marshawn Lynch was too good of a player pass up the opportunity to have. He is a top 5 running back in our league. Lynch will re-invent our offense and give Locker the ability to improve with a great running game. Free Agent Signings Danny Amendola WR $7,500,000 Great possession style receiver who can play all of the positions in our wide receiver core. Brandon Moore OG $4,000,000 A good upgrade to our awful interior line from the year before. Israel Idonije DE $1,200,000 Very underated DE who is very good against the run, as well as pressuring the qb. Erin Henderson LB $750,000 Another underrated defender who we got at a really cheap price and can start right away. Jeraud Powers CB $5,250,000 Great coverage corner who can start right away. Bernard Pollard SS $6,750,000 Amazing in run support and pressure packages, underrated in coverage. Matt Prater K $1,400,000 He is a kicker who can make the big kick. Draft We were lucky to be able to pick BPA throughout the draft through our moves in the off season. Our draft was +74 and would have been a lot better if it wasn't for Cornelius Washington falling so far in the draft (-58). 1.10 (10) - DT Star Lotulelei, Utah Lotulelei was our top DT in the draft, and will be able to come in right away and start for us. Our run defense was poor last year, and he is very stout in the middle. -Actual Draft Position: Round 1 (14) 2.9 (41) - S Jonathan Cyprien, FIU Cyprien was our second rated Safety in the draft, and a first round talent. We found him to be a great value in the second round. Neither of our starting safeties are very young, and Cyprien will add great depth in his rookie year and will be a future starter. Actual Draft Position: Round 2 (33) 2.32 (64) - Via Ravens via Broncos- RB Giovanni Bernard, North Carolina Giovanni Bernard was our top rated RB in the draft and a great home run threat to marry with steady Marshawn Lynch. He was a steal at the end of the second round. -Actual Draft Position: Round 2(37) 3.8 (72) - DE Corey Lemonier, Auburn Great pass rusher with exceptional physical ability. With coaching could end up being a starter in the near future. Will come in immediately in his first year and be a great situational pass rusher. -Actual Draft Position: Round 3 (88) 4.10 (105) - QB E.J. Manuel , Florida St. Steal of the draft, a great back up for this year, and an insurance plan for Jake Locker. Very athletic with a great amount of potential, great value. -Actual Draft Position: Round 1 (16) 4.12 (107) - CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson, Connecticut Was our best player left on our board, who happen to give us a dimension as a large corner that we didn't have at the position previously. Should be able to see some field time his rookie year, and a future starter. -Actual Draft Position: Round 3 (70) 5.2 (130) - DE Cornelius Washington, Georgia A great situational pass rusher who has a ton of upside, should see limited time his rookie year. Surprised he fell so far in the real draft. -Actual Draft Position: Round 6 (188) 7.10 (202) - LB Vince Williams, Florida St. Solid Depth at MLB, with a ton of upside. -Actual Draft Position: Round 7 (206) 7.16 (208) - LB Michael Mauti, Penn St. Amazing talent that could have a been an early round pick if it wasn't for his injury history. Could be the steal of the draft if he can stay healthy, ton of upside. -Actual Draft Position: Round 7 (213) UDFA: WR Brandon Kaufman, Eastern Washington Talented, big wide receiver that will be a great red zone target for Locker. -Actual Draft Position: UDFA Practice Squad Peter Lalich, QB - PRACTICE SQUAD Uzoma Nwachukwu, WR - PRACTICE SQUAD Blaize Foltz, OL - PRACTICE SQUAD George Winn, RB - PRACTICE SQUAD Zach Subfeld, TE - PRACTICE SQUAD
Final thoughts It was fun taking a bad team and improving them. Got a franchise QB with elite weapons to throw to. Defense is a work in progress but shaping up. Happy with my draft class sucks I'm in the NFC West the strongest division in the GML. Can't wait for next year.
The St. Louis Rams Overview: As you’ll see with the before after comparison on the starting lineup, I made some changes to the team. But that only tells part of the story. When I inherited this team, we were roughly $5m under the cap, with some bloated contracts and lack of depth at important positions. After cutting some players, adding to the group in free agency and the draft, and making a few trades… nay… 14 trades… I feel this team is a serious playoff contender in a very tough division. My priority was upgrading the offensive line. It all starts up front in this league and I wanted to put a brick wall ahead of Sam Bradford to give him the best opportunity to succeed. I’m most proud of what I did with the line, trading for Russell Okung and Marshal Yanda (two pro bowlers) and signing the up and coming Andre Smith to play right tackle. With the returning Harvey Dahl and Scott Wells, I put this group up against any in the league. After the line, I wanted to add dynamic playmakers at running back and wide receiver. This is going to be a balanced offense. But an exciting offense. Gone is the long time Ram Steven Jackson. And he’s replaced by several capable players, including rookie Montee Ball and veteran Ahmad Bradshaw. The receiving group is young but very talented. DeAndre Hopkins and Chris Givens are the starters and contrast each other quite nicely. Defensively, it was ultimately important not to ruin the front seven as that has been the strength of the entire team. Yes, I floated the names of some guys in trade. And I did receive some interest. But in the end, you don’t fix what isn’t broken. My goal defensively was to add along the d line (Corey Liuget) and make over the secondary. I hadn’t planned on trading Trumaine Johnson, but the offer from the Bills was just too much. For Trumaine, I received Sio Moore, AJ Jenkins and the other picks enabled me to move up and get two of my favorite players in the draft in Hopkins and Ball. Again, it wasn’t a trade that I planned for but one that I’m thrilled with the outcome. The two new safeties are hard hitting, monsters that will scare the rest of the NFL in TJ Ward and Eric Reid. One last thing, thanks to all for participating this year, it was a great year with plenty of input. As always I had a blast. Special thanks to GIK and Mach for running the show and putting up with us bastards. Coaching Staff HC: Jeff Fisher OC: Brian Schottenheimer DC: Dick Jauron Starters (Before/After) Roster (by position in depth chart order) Quarterback ($13,673,172) Sam Bradford $12,595,000 Kirk Cousins $598,172 Austin Davis $480,000 Sam is back to start, but he’ll be pushed in the first time in his career by Kirk Cousins. Austin Davis is a promising young quarterback that the Rams brass is high on. Running Back ($7,442,750) Montee Ball $575,000 Ahmad Bradshaw $5,000,000 Isaiah Pead $917,750 James Starks $500,000 FB Kyle Juszczyk $450,000 I’m starting Montee Ball, one of my favorite players in the draft ahead of the rest. Bradshaw is a guy I picked up in free agency after he was released. Pead, is expected to compete for the starting gig in the “real” NFL. James Starks has shown he can play in this league before. And Kyle Juszczyk from Harvard adds a much needed full back presence to the team. Wide Receiver ($6,715,941) DeAndre Hopkins $2,100,000 Chris Givens $604,257 Austin Pettis $733,604 Brian Quick $1,224,095 AJ Jenkins $1,578,985 Josh Boyce $475,000 This is the group I spent the most time trying to add to. There were many GM’s that I approached in attempts to trade for their #1 receiver. Unfortunately that never happened so I drafted a guy who I think can be special. I didn’t sign anyone in free agency, many were surprised by this. But I felt the guys were overpriced and the ones that weren’t didn’t add anything to the group. Givens, Pettis and Quick are returning Rams from last season. All three will contribute. Givens and especially Quick have the most potential. I traded for Jenkins as a deep speed guy that we needed (although Givens has top speed too). And Josh Boyce is a guy I really liked in the draft.. and so did the Patriots in the “real’ NFL. Tight End ($2,612,555) Lance Kendricks $1,152,555 Jeff Cumberland $480,000 Luke Willson $480,000 Evan Moore $480,000 Kendricks is still the starter here and he showed signs of turning the corner last season. I’ve added to the group by bringing in Jeff Cumberland, the Jets starter last season when Keller went down and the athletically gifted Luke Willson, who was brought in as my only UDFA signing (he was drafted in the real NFL by the Seahawks in the FIFTH round). The venerable Evan Moore rounds out the group. Offensive Line ($31,647,825) Russell Okung T $6,540,000 Harvey Dahl G $4,000,000 Scott Wells C $4,500,000 Marshal Yanda G $7,450,000 Andre Smith T $7,000,000 Shelley Smith G $575,000 Joe Barksdale T $555,000 Rokevious Watkins G $527,825 Demetress Bell T $500,000 60% of the starting lineup is new from last year. Very proud of the additions I made here. And there’s some good depth as well with guys the Rams are quite high on, Smith and Watkins particularly. Defensive Line ($26,780,068) Chris Long $14,460,000 Robert Quinn $2,573,475 Corey Liuget $2,275,516 Michael Brockers $2,164,090 William Hayes $3,000,000 Roy Miller $500,000 Eugene Sims $1,226,987 Kevin Vickerson $600,000 The defensive line was a strength last year and will continue to be a strength this year. The major addition here is Corey Liuget, a player I traded for with the Chargers. He’s a dynamic player who can do many things. Adding him makes this starting lineup truly ferocious. The backups are really good as well. Hayes and Sims will rotate in as situation pass rushers. Veterans Miller and Vickerson have proven their worth inside and provide quality depth to the unit. Linebackers ($16,756,065) JoLonn Dunbar $1,800,000 James Laurinaitis $12,400,000 Nigel Bradham $596,065 Sio Moore $575,000 Tim Dobbins $480,000 Lorenzo Alexander $480,000 Eric Martin $425,000 Dunbar and Laurinaitis are back. James is the defensive captain in the middle of the defense. The additions here are fairly solid. Sio Moore is a guy we loved at the Senior Bowl. He’s going to compete for the starting job next to Nigel Bradham. Sio can rush the passer as needed and do many things well in space. Dobbins is a great safety player on the bench. Lorenzo Alexander is one of the best special teams players in the NFL (he made the pro bowl as a special teamer with the Skins). And Eric Martin has off the chart measurables that Coach Fisher loves. Cornerbacks ($12,347,250) Janoris Jenkins $997,250 Xavier Rhodes $2,250,000 Deangelo Hall $7,600,000 Darius Butler $500,000 Dmitri Patterson $1,000,000 After cutting Cortland Finnegan, saving a billion dollars against the cap, we wanted to bring in a veteran presence to help the young guys grow. Deangelo Hall can give us that. He could also play free safety down the line if needed. Janoris Jenkins was very solid as a rookie last year and can still get better. Xavier Rhodes is a corner I loved in this draft. He’s got great ball awareness. Butler and Patterson add to the group as veteran depth players who have plenty of experience starting and playing nickel in this league. Safeties ($2,908,750) Eric Reid $800,000 TJ Ward $1,148,750 Jim Leonhard $480,000 Jamarca Sanford $480,000 We were thrilled to draft Eric Reid where we did (in the second round). He’ll start immediately. He’s compared to Laron Landry. What’s interesting is that if just one of the teams that I had bid wars with for a safety had stopped bidding, I wouldn’t have drafted Reid. Amazing how that works out. TJ Ward is a well loved exciting hard hitting player. Leonhard and Sanford add veteran depth and special teams expertise. Specialists ($995,538) Johnny Hekker P $483,333 Greg Zuerlein $512,205 Two of the best young kickers in the league. I was never going to change anything here… :cough: Total Salary $121,879,914 The ownership owes me the $1.1+ million in cap space. I’ll take that for a year’s work. Practice Squad Marcus Cromartie, CB David King, DE (Drafted 7th round by Eagles) PJ Lonergan, C Trades I’m always proud of what I accomplished in my trades. I won’t go trade by trade, but suffice it to say I think I won every trade (or I wouldn’t have made it). Note, I generally don’t flip players, but after acquiring Trent Richardson for Kendall Langford (as the replacement to Steven Jackson) I just couldn’t pass up the Seattle trade where I ended up landing stud left tackle Russell Okung. Plus, I hurt a division rival. How could I turn that down? -sent DT Kendall Langford ($6,000,000), to Cleveland for RB Trent Richardson ($4,656,604) -sent 4.112 to Cleveland for S TJ Ward ($1,148,750) and 7.198 -sent CB Cortland Finnegan ($15,000,000) and 6.176 to Tampa Bay for 2.44 -sent RB Daryl Richardson ($491,474) and 2.44 to San Diego for DT Corey Liuget ($2,275,516) and 4.105 -sent 3.80 to Washington for QB Kirk Cousins ($598,172) -sent 2.48 to Baltimore for G Marshal Yanda ($7,450,000) and 3.95 -sent 5.144 to Buffalo for LB Nigel Bradham ($596,065) -sent 7.198 to Washington for CB DeAngelo Hall ($11,300,000) -sent CB Trumaine Johnson ($647,794) to Buffalo for 3.66, 4.100, 4.107, 5.157 -sent RB Steven Jackson ($8,219,000 via franchise tag) and 3.95 to NY Jets for 2.47 -sent T Roger Saffold, $1,380,000 and RB Trent Richardson $4,656,604 to Seattle for T Russell Okung, $6,540,000 -sent 4.100 to San Francisco for WR AJ Jenkins $1,578,,985 -sent 1.22 and 5.157 to Dallas for 1.18 -sent 4.105, 4.107 and 7.208 to Tennessee for 3.89 and 5.141 Draft Picks **My best draft ever** This draft was a unique experience for me in that I didn't draft a single offensive or defensive linemen. And I knew coming in that I wasn't going to draft one as they would have a hard time making this team (passed the 3rd round). So that allowed me to focus on the remaining positions of need. Corner, wide receiver, safety, linebacker and running back were all going to be drafted, it was just a matter of when. So I set my board according to those positions. After drafting corner and receiver with my first two picks, safety and linebacker were next on my list. And it just so happened that at the 47th and 88th picks, my board setup perfectly for Reid and Moore. Couldn't be happier. That left running back as the last position I HAD to get. So I moved up for the guy I really really like in Montee Ball. No draft is ever perfect. But I feel really really good about this group. 1.16 CB Xavier Rhodes, Florida State 1.18 WR DeAndre Hopkins. Going into the off season the Bears GM had a big uphill climb. Salary cap strapped, terrible offensive line, no weapons outside of Brandon Marshall. Two big free agents on the defensive line. Urlacher a free agent. Bears cut and traded their way to some decent cap space. Traded for a young stud in Mark Barron to go with an already great defense. Added young KJ Wright and perfect young fit Craig Robertson to team with Briggs. Got a incredible deep threat in Desean Jackson for Cutler to throw too. Also upgraded their Guard position with trading for Jeremy Zuttah. Also got another young deep threat in TJ Graham from the Bills. All that was done through trades. We also started with no 3rd round pick, and despite being able to add all that YOUNG talent to the roster, we were able to pick up a 3rd round pick in the trades. In free agency we took what money we saved and spent the house. We Added Brandon Albert, young studs Evan Dietrich-Smith and Lance Louis. Went out and got Matt Hasselbeck to back up Cutler. Henry Melton was franchised and resigned. Along with some veteren pick ups along the defensive line. Going into the draft the Bears GM wanted to do 3 things. Add weapons, continue to improve the offensive line and add depth. They did that. Getting Tyler Eifert at 20 to add to Kellen Davis at the TE position was huge. Great big receiving option for Cutler, especially in the redzone. They added OT Watson in the 3rd round. They didn't expect him to be there, but he slipped and was perfect for them. We also added good young depth to the defense. DE Devin Taylor, CB Brandon McGee and CB Steve Williams all project to be long term players in this league. GM Nappy Roots didn't do everything perfect this off season. He overpaid and over drafted especially in one sense. However, he overtook a team with a lot of needs, a terrible offensive line, little cap, and no 3rd round pick. He feels like he has a plethora of weapons for Cutler now, now has one of the better YOUNG offensive lines in the NFL, added very good YOUNG starters on the defense to add to an already very good defense, and truly feels like this is the best Bears team since the Super Bowl team. Add to that they got much younger and more explosive, this off season was a HUGE win. A+ Off Season! The Bucs felt that bringing in a guy like Tim Tebow is just what Tampa needed(on top of helping ticket sales). Behind what we feel is one of the best offensive lines in football after acquiring center Chris Myers from the Texans and RT Doug Free with Davin Joseph and Carl Nicks returning from injury and Donald Penn at LT. And with the decision to go with Tebow we knew we would be running the ball alot so we went out and got stud fullback Vonta Leach. We also have our version of thunder and lightning in the Back field with Bush and Blount. We added depth at this position in the draft adding Andre Ellington. At WR we went speed speed speed! We had our sights on Percy Harvin from the start and did what we needed to get him. We also drafted a couple speedsters in Swope and Stills and acquiring wr/return specialist Devin Hester via trade. We also decided to give Tight End Luke Stocker the chance to start, and behind him we drafted Dion Sims who we feel is a very strong blocking TE as well as a good receiving TE. We took a chance signing Demetrius Harris the 6-7 4.5 40 time former basketball player turned TE in hopes he will be the next Jimmy Grahm...we shall see. On the defensive side of the ball we slapped the Franchise tag on Bennett after coming off double digit sack numbers. We are aware of his current injury status and are more than ready to give Bowers the start if he isnt ready to go. We have Clayborn returning from injury as well with Jeremy Mincy behind him. We switched it up a bit at DT acquiring Williams and Patterson providing us with solid veteran leadership. I am more than pleased with what we did at the LB position with Lavonte David retuning as well as new comers Jarvis Jones and Demeco Ryans, as well as adding some solid depth at the postion. We went out and got two physical corners in Finnegan and Davis, and Mike Jenkins in free agency to play the Nickle spot. We decided to go young at safety giving Ahmad Black and Shawn Williams the start. But just incase that plan fails we have two solid back ups in Taylor Mays and seasoned vet Rhonde Barber. Barber is also our insurance at corner if we are stricken with injury. We are also very excited about our special team situation with two of the most dangerous return guys in the game with Harvin and Hester! We brought back conner barth as well who was one of the most accurate kickers in the league last year. All in all the Bucs are very pleased with what we have put together as a team from starters to depth under FIRST year GM Teflon John!
The New York Giants came into the offseason only one year removed from their second Super Bowl title in 5 years. The Giants had a strong start to the 2012 season but let the playoffs slip away in the final quarter of the season. The Giants return a solid base of veteran players and new GM RPG took a simplistic “if it aint broke, don’t fix” approach to the offseason. The Giants said goodbye to 8 starters from last season’s squad, 4 from the offensive and 4 from the defensive. RPG was busy with 27 free agents including 4 RFA’s and managed to resign key players along the Offensive line in Will Beatty and Kevin Boothe; Wide receiver Victor Cruz received the franchise tag for the upcoming season and the team added depth with 32 players via free agency. The Giants also welcome new DC Rod Marinelli and his aggressive Tampa 2 defense to help improve the play of the Defensive Line which is the heart of the team. The team selected 3 defensive players in (ILB) Alex Ogletree, (DE) Sam Montgomery and (DT) Brandon Williams in the first 3 rounds of the draft. The team approached free agency with an intent to create competition to the defensive unit, bringing in versatile players with the ability to play multiple positions, this will allow Marinelli to move the pieces around to create that high level of QB pressure were used to seeing from Big Blue. Offensively, The Giants welcome 2 new starters to the offensive line in Ryan Cook and former 2011 4[SUP]th[/SUP] round draft pick James Brewer looks to get the start at Right Tackle. Big Blue looks to get back to its 2 headed running game and will feature exciting second year player David Wilson and journeyman Andre Brown. Eli lost starting Tight End Martellus Bennett to FA but has a strong new receiving threat in Brandon Myers who in 2012 led the Raiders with79 receptions and new blocking TE in Daniel Fells coming over from the rival patriots (payback for taking Ballard). The starting 3 WR’s return from 2012 and the Giants added 5 rookies to the offense including 3 on the offensive line. The Giants look to get the offense back into the top 10 after finishing14[SUP]th[/SUP] in total offense, 12[SUP]th[/SUP] in passing and 14[SUP]th[/SUP]in running. Improving the offense will also assist the GMEN on the defensive side of the ball. Quarterback 1. Eli Manning (32, 6-4, 218) – 3948 yds, 26 td’s, 87.2rating, #8 QB on PFF 2. Jason Campbell (31, 6-5, 230) – 1170 yds, 6 td’s, 84.2rating in 6 games as starter in 2011 Eli Manning looked elite early in the season but injuries to the O-line and the receivers positions took its toll towards in the second half of the year. Many speculated that Eli’s arm was tired and affected his ability late in the season; an improved running game should help take some of the burden off Eli. Jason Campbell was brought in as the backup an improvement over David Carr but the Giant faithful hope he never sees the field but are comfortable that should Eli (current NFL Ironman @ 135 games) miss his first game, Campbell a former starter is capable of leading the offense. Running Back 1-a. Andre Brown (26, 6-0, 224) – 383 yds, 5.3 avg, 6td’s in only 6 games / 2009 4[SUP]th[/SUP] Rd pick 1-b. David Wilson (22, 5-10, 206) – 358 yds, 5.0 avg, 4 td’s in 14 games / 20121[SUP]st[/SUP] Rd pick 3. Johnathan Franklin (23, 5-10, 205) - @ UCLA 1734 yds, 6.1 avg, 13 td’s /2013 4[SUP]th[/SUP] Rd pick 4. Ronnie Brown (31, 6-0, 230) – 220yds, 4.8 avg / 49 rec, 371 yds, 7.6 avg / 2005 1[SUP]st[/SUP] Rd pick One of the biggest changes this offseason comes in the running game as the Giants look to move on from often injured Bradshaw handing the reins to 2nd year back David Wilson and Andre Brown, who will split carries allowing the Giants to go with the hot hand, could the Giants be looking at 2x1000 yard rushers? Both Wilson and Brown averaged over 5 yards a carry in 2012 and the combination found the end zone 12 times in only 144 carries. Jonathan Franklin from UCLA was a 4[SUP]th[/SUP] round selection and will compete with Free Agent acquisition Ronnie Brown for the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]down back duties. Brown also provides the position with veteran experience and solid receiving abilities should one of the starters go down with injury. Full Back 1. Henry Hynoski (24, 6-1, 266) – 20 yds, 4.0 avg / 11rec, 50 yds, 3.9 avg, 1 td, #8 PFF full back Henry “Hynocerous” Hynoski returns for his 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] year as the Giants full back. An excellent blocker who has improved his receiving skills each year provides more stability to the running game and the ever important job of keeping Eli upright. Wide Receiver 1. Hakkem Nicks (25, 6-1, 208) – 53 rec, 692 yds, 13.1avg, 3 td’s in 13 games / 2009 1[SUP]st[/SUP] Rd pick 2. Victor Cruz (26, 6-0, 204) – 86 rec, 1092 yds, 12.7 avg, 10 td’s in 16 games/ UDFA 3. Rueben Randle (21, 6-2, 208) – 19rec, 298 yds, 15.7 avg, 3 td’s in 14 games / 2012 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Rd pick 4. Taverres King (22, 6-0, 189) - @ Georgia 950 yds, 22.6 avg, 9 td’s / 2013 5[SUP]th[/SUP]Rd pick 5. Jerrel Jernigan (23, 5-8, 189) – 3 red, 22 yds, 7.3 avg in 8 games / 2011 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]Rd pick The Giants lost both Dominic Hixon and Ramses Barden to free agency, propelling Rueben Randle into the # 3 WR role and 5th round selection Taverres King will battle third year receiver Jerrel Jernigan for the #4 WR role, the teams feels the positions is even stronger than last year. The Giants slapped the franchise tag on Victor Cruz and look forward to a healthy return of Hakkem Nicks. Eli Manning should be excited with this young group of receivers who average only 23.5 years of age. The Giants will look to have both Nicks and Cruz return to the top of the WR charts similar to 2011 when Nicks had 76 receptions, 1192 yards and 7touchdowns, while Cruz amassed 82 receptions, 1536 yards and 9 touchdowns. If everyone stays healthy and Rueben Randle continues to grow at WR possible exceeding the 50 reception mark and King or Jernigan find a way to contribute the Giants look to have one of the most skilled set of WR’s in the league and could be capable of franchise records for receptions and yards. This in turn should open up the running lanes for the Giants backfield. Tight End 1. Brandon Myers (27, 6-3, 256) – 79 rec, 806 yds, 10.2avg, 4 td’s / 2009 6[SUP]th[/SUP] Rd pick 2. Daniel Fells (29, 6-4, 252) – 4 rec, 85 yds, 21.3 avg / UDFA 3. Adrien Robinson (24, 6-4, 264) – 2011 4[SUP]th[/SUP] Rd pick The Giants let FA Martellus Bennett find his pay day and in turn signed FA Brandon Myers who led the Raiders in receptions in 2012 with 79 and 4touchdowns. This marks the 4[SUP]th[/SUP]new starting TE in the past 4 years for Eli, he has developed a habit of turning average players such as Kevin Boss, Jake Ballard and Bennett into elite tight ends, what kind of numbers could Myers put for Big Blue in 2013. Myers is an improvement in the passing game but is not the complete TE that Bennett was so the Giants upgraded their blocking by signing Daniel Fells from New England who will replace departed Bear Pascoe. Second year player Adrien Robinson will be called on to play a larger role in 2013 and the GMEN have high hopes for the extremely athletic TE who when drafted was called the JPP of TE’s Offensive Line LT 1. Will Beatty (27, 6-6, 319) – 16 starts, 3 sacks,#11 PFF OT in 2012 / 2009 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Rd pick LG 1. Kevin Boothe (27, 6-5, 320) – 16 starts, 3 sacks, #21 PFF OG, 6 sacks last 35starts / 2006 6[SUP]th[/SUP] rd pick C 1. Ryan Cook (29, 6-6, 325) – 12 starts, 1 sack, #19 PFF C / 2006 2[SUP]nd[/SUP]rd pick RG 1. Chris Snee (31, 6-3, 305) – 16 starts, 3 sacks, #13 PFF OG, 15 sacks in84 straight starts / 2004 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] rd pick RT 1. James Brewer (25, 6-6, 330) – 2011 4[SUP]th[/SUP] rd pick LT 2. Brandon Mosley (24, 6-5, 318) – 2012 4[SUP]th[/SUP] rd pick LG 2. John sullen (22, 6-5, 313) – 2013 6[SUP]th[/SUP] rd pick, Auburn, 11starts in 2012 C 2. Lemuel Jeanpierre (25, 6-3, 301) – UDFA RG 2. Omeregie Uzzi (23, 6-2, 315) – 2013 6[SUP]th[/SUP]rd pick, Georgia, 3 year starter RT 2. Oday Aboushi (22, 6-5, 310) – 2013 4[SUP]th[/SUP]rd pick, Virginia, 32 starts 25 at LT Last season the Giants offensive line lead the league in fewest sacks allowed with only 20 yet some people thought the O-line was in need of dramatic attention this offseason. RPG was able to resign both (LT) Will Beatty and (LG) Kevin Boothe in free agency, a pairing that Eli is extremely comfortable with protecting is blind side, and Boothe also has experience starting at center. The Giants were able to sign free agent (C) Ryan Cook formerly of the Dallas Cowboys and said goodbye to (C) David Baas, who has played well since coming over from the 49ers in 2011 but has been too often injured, freeing up over $2 million in cap space while getting younger in the position and feel Cook is a stronger pass blocker than Baas. Chris Snee returns for his 10[SUP]th[/SUP] season as the Giants starting (RG) the 3time Pro Bowler looks to continue his string of 84 consecutive starts and as the elder statesman of the group will be asked to provide leadership on the right side of the ball. The Giants are excited for (RT) James Brewer who they drafted in the 4[SUP]th[/SUP]round of 2011 who will take over for David Diehl who was released early in the offseason after another poor season on the field. Diehl’s play has been declining steadily and he was a cap casualty saving the team over $7 million in salary, David will now have plenty of time to pursue his Radio Career on Sirius Radio. 2012 draft pick Brandon Mosley will be slated as the backup for (LT) Beatty but will provide competition for the starting (RT) Brewer who will also be pushed in camp by this year’s 4[SUP]th[/SUP] round selection and Brooklyn native Oday Aboushi a strong, physical former left tackle who will be asked to move to RT but can step in at LT or OG should the need arise. The Giants selected 2 Guards in the 6[SUP]th[/SUP] round of this year’s draft in Omeregie Uzzi who is an immediate impact run blocker with starting potential and John Sullen who has incredible upper body strength and at 6-5, 350lbs is a mauler who has experience at both inside guard positions and could be pushed outside as a tackle in the Giants power based run scheme. The Giants also brought in (C/G) Lemuel Jean Pierre from Seattle to backup Cook and provide versatility to the offensive line. This is a young group averaging only 26 years old that now features several versatile players capable of playing multiple positions along the line lead by a core group of top caliber players in Snee, Beatty, Boothe and Cook, who look to keep Eli upright in the pocket yet again in 2013. Defensively, The focus for the defense during this offseason was to improve the play of the front 7 as the Giants D lives and dies by the amount of pressure they get on the QB, just look back to their recent Super Bowl victories over the Patriots a time when the pressure was unstoppable, even Brady can’t compete passes when he’s on his back. The Giants did say goodbye to some notable veteran starters from last year in (DE) Osi Umeniyora - 31, (DT) Rocky Bernard - 33, (WLB) Michael Boley -30, (CB) Corey Webster - 30, (FS) Kenny Phillips- 26 and (SS) Antrelle Rolle -30, the group averaged 30 years of age. The team will see a much younger group of starters now averaging only 26 years old with the additions to the starting rotation of (DE) Sam Montgomery – 22, (DT)Brandon Williams – 24, (WLB) Jacquain Williams -24, (CB) Leodis McKelvin -27,(FS) Stevie Brown -27 and (SS) Quintin Mikell -32. The GMEN selected 3 defensive players in the first 3 round of the draft who will all be starter’s day 1. Alec Ogletree our 1[SUP]st[/SUP] round selection adds an all-around skill set to the line backing core and will be used all over the field, the organization has high hopes for this youngster. Changes were made in the secondary to add competition to each of the positions, gone is long time starter Webster who has been a good Giant but did not live up to his almost $10 million salary, and was targeted far too often last year, the Giants will ask the combination of Amukamara and McKelvin both former 1[SUP]st[/SUP] round draft picks to step up and fill the void. The team also feels they have upgraded the play from their safety positions also with the addition of Quintin Mikell. Pressuring the QB and ball pursuit will be the name of the game in New York once again! Defensive End 1. Jason Pierre Paul (24, 6-5, 278) – 7 sack, 40tk, 5bp,#3 PFF 4-3DE, 2 x Pro Bowl / 2010 1[SUP]st[/SUP] Rd pick 2. Justin Tuck (29, 6-5, 268) – 4sacks, 29tk, 1bp, 2011 Pro Bowl / 2005 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] rd pick 3. Sam Montgomery (22, 6-3, 262) – 2013 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] rd pick, LSU, 26 starts,2012 lead team with 7sk, 12 tfl 4. Adewale Ojomo (24, 6-4, 270) - UDFA The Giants welcome back starters Jason Pierre Paul a Pro Bowler the last2 seasons and 2011 pro Bowler Justin Tuck to anchor the end of the Defensive and added in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] round of the draft Sam Montgomery out of LSU to replace departed free agent Osi Umeniyora. Montgomery has track-star speed for a man of his size and he led LSU with 7 sacks and 12 tackles for loss last season, his addition will allow Marinelli to move Tuck inside on passing plays allowing the unit to “pin their ears back and go get the QB”. Undrafted free agent Adewale Ojomo who has impress during the last 2 pre-seasons will complete the group who averages less than 25 years of age. The mindset of the defense is to apply as much pressure to the QB as possible while being able to track down plays in the run game and the team is hoping with the new additions both at End and Tackle JPP and Tuck can once again reach the level of play from the 2010 Super Bowl run. Last season the unit on contributed 17 sacks and 94 tackles which is nearly half the sack's from the previous 2 years when they were averaging over 30 sacks per year. The unit will be called on to once again beat the top of the NFL in these categories and is looking for 3 double digit sack performers in of JPP, Tuck and Montgomery with the group once again contributing over 30 sacks to the defense. Defensive Tackle 1. Chris Canty (30, 6-7, 317) – 9 starts, 3 sacks, 18tk,#19 PFF DT 2. Linval Joseph (24, 6-4, 323) – 16 start, 4 sacks, 36 tk, #21 PFF DT / 2010 2[SUP]nd[/SUP]rd pick 3. Brandon Williams (24, 6-2, 335) – 2013 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] rd pick, Miss Southern, 30 starts / 2012 8.5sk, 16.5 tfl, 68 tk, hold school record with 27sacks 4. Marvin Austin (24, 6-2, 312) – 8 games, 4 tk / 201 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] rd pick Linval Joseph and Chris Canty were brought back as starters with Canty’s new contract saving the team of over $6 million. The Giants selected in the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]round of the draft versatile 6-2, 341lbs defensive lineman Brandon Williams out of Missouri Southern to replace departed free agent Rocky Bernard. Williams has explosive power to collapse the pocket and has shown he can be a disruptive force in the middle with 27 careers sacks while at Miss Southern, he can play either the nose or the gap in the Giants 40 front and has experience up and down the D-line. 2011 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] round draft pick Marvin Austin was brought back for one more kick at the can, the Giants hope he can stay healthy and get on the field to make the impact they had hoped for when he was selected with the 52[SUP]nd[/SUP] pick. The Giants are looking for improved play from the unit especially against the run but also feel they have improved their rush capabilities and are hoping to see the unit contribute between 12-15 sacks which would be a healthy improvement over 8 sacks achieved in 2012. Look for Rod Marinelli to use the bigger Joseph and Williams on run plays allowing Canty to play less snaps and focus on rushing the passer more on 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] downs, in an attempt to help keep him healthy. MLB 1. Alec Ogletree (21, 6-3, 242) – 2013 1[SUP]st[/SUP] rd pick, Georgia, 21 starts / 2012 3 sack, 11.5 tfl, 111tk, 1int 2. Chase Blackburn (29, 6-3, 247) – 15 starts, 3 sack, 65 tk / UDFA Chase Blackburn was resigned as a veteran presence and will play a support role to the Giants 1[SUP]st[/SUP] round draft pick and new starting MLB Alec Ogletree out of Georgia. Ogletree a converted safety is an excellent all-around athlete with terrific range and ability to make plays all over the field, can cover the deep middle and is not afraid of making the big hit. He has enough speed and quickness around the edge, capable of making plays in the backfield; he arrives with power and violent intentions and unlike Blackburn is strong in coverage with strong ball skills. The Giants will ask him to increase his strength and weight to help protect him in the run game and see him as a 3 down backer with the ability to play WLB or SLB in sub packages. WLB 1. Jacquain Williams (24, 6-3, 224) – 10 games / 2starts, 1 sack, 30 tk / 2011 6[SUP]th[/SUP] rd pick 2. Spencer Paysinger (24, 6-2, 236) – 9 games, 14tk, special team 16tk to lead team / UDFA Jacquain Williams will move from SLB to start at WLB replacing Michael Boley who the Giants released early in the offseason saving over $5 million in cap space with Spencer Paysinger providing depth at the position. Williams recorded 30 tackles and 1 sack in 10games last year at SLB and is the fastest of the Giants linebackers; his speed will be an asset in pass coverage and is capable of chasing the play down from behind. Paysinger is comparable backup who led the team last year with 16 tackles on special teams last year. SLB 1. Mathias Kiwanuka (29, 6-5, 267) – 16 games, 3 sack,19k / 2006 1[SUP]st[/SUP] rd pick 2. Arthur Moats (25, 6-2, 250) – 14 games / 5 starts, 14tk / 2010 6[SUP]th[/SUP]rd pick Mathias Kiwanuka will be penciled in as the starting SLB but will also be used as a DE in rush situations, creating even more depth and options for Rod Marinelli in the rush game. Kiwanuka will be asked to set the edge in the run game and cover some of the TE’s the Giants will face this season the way he did against Gronkowski in the 2011Super Bowl. Arthur Moats was signed as a free agent from Buffalo and will provide depth at the position and he himself can also play DE if needed. Cornerback LCB Leodis McKelvin (27, 5-10, 186) – 9 games / 4 starts, 20tk, 1int / 2008 1[SUP]st[/SUP]rd pick / Kick return #1 PFF RCB Prince Amukamara (23, 6-0, 207) – 13games / 11 starts, 49tk, 1int / 2011 1[SUP]st[/SUP] rd pick SCB Jayron Hosley (22, 5-10, 178) – 12 games / 5 starts, 28tk, 1int / 2012 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]rd pick 4. AJ Jefferson (25, 6-1, 190) – 14 games / 8 starts, 39tk / UDFA 5. Brice McCain (26, 5-9, 180) – 12 games / 2 starts, 17tk, 1int / 2009 6[SUP]th[/SUP]rd pick 6. Johnny Adams (23, 5-11, 175) – 2013 7[SUP]th[/SUP] rd pick, Michigan State, 13 starts, 51tk, 3int The Giants will field to former 1[SUP]st[/SUP] round draft picks as starting Corners this season with (LCB)Leodis McKelvin and (RCB) Prince Amukamara. Jayron Hosley with get the call at (SCB) but will be pushed by free agent acquisition Brice McCain who comes over from Houston, McCain struggled as a LCB last year with the Texans but as their SCB in 2011 he excelled and has strong coverage skills. The Giants also signed free agent AJ Jefferson and drafted Johnny Adams to compete for snaps behind the starters. The Giants feel that Jefferson at 6-1 is a big physical presence that appeared in 14 games with8 starts last year with the Vikings. Adams is a more raw player with excellent ball skills but will likely be more of a special team’s addition. Although no big moves were made in the offseason, the GMEN feel they have quality depth at the position and will again rely on the pressure from their D-line to help take pressure off the secondary. Free Safety 1. Stevie Brown (25, 5-11, 221) – 14 games / 11 starts,76tk, 8int / 2010 7[SUP]th[/SUP] rd pick 2. Will Hill (22, 6-1, 207) – 9 games, 23tk, special teams 10[SUP]th[/SUP], #5PFF Special team / UDFA Strong Safety 1. Quintin Mikell (32, 5-10, 204) – 16 starts, 3 sack,101 tk, #5 PFF S / UDFA 2. Nate Clements (33, 6-0, 200) – 9 games @ S / 6 games @ CB, 51tk / 2001 1[SUP]st[/SUP]rd pick 3. Rafael Bush (25, 5-11, 200) – 6 games, 9tk / UDFA Stevie Brown emerged as a defensive star for the Giants last year with84 tackles and team leading and NFL 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] best 8 interceptions in 14games and has earned the starting job at FS allowing the Giants to say good bye to free agent Kenny Phillips. Will Hill an NFL top 5 special team player will provide depth at the position, Hill is a converted CB with strong coverage skills and good speed, and he can fill in as CB in certain formations when required. Quintin Mikell was the team’s biggest free agent signing on the Defensive side of the ball, coming over from St Louis and will take over the starting SS job from released Antrelle Rolle. Mikell graded out as one of the league’s best in the box safeties with 101 tackles and 3sacks and will help provide support in the run game and has blitzing abilities. The Giants feel he is an upgrade over the more expensive Antrelle Rolls and were able to save over $3million in the signing of Mikell. Veteran Nate Clements and youngster Rafael Bush were signed as a free agents to create depth in the secondary. Clements a former 1[SUP]st[/SUP] round draft pick and converted CB appeared in 9 games at SS and 6 games at CB last year with the Bungles, he will provide experience and depth at either position and was signed at the league minimum. Bush come over from the Saints where he excelled as a special team star a role he will play with the GMEN and can contribute as an extra safety given the age of Clements. Special Teams K Lawrence Tynes P Steve Weatherford LS Zak DeOssie The Giants made no changes to their special teams unit in the offseason, bringing back Lawrence Tynes who has twice kicked NFC Championship game winning field goals propelling the Giants to 2 Super Bowls. Fixing that was the goal right off the bat and in came Peyton Manning and Justin Blackmon. Manning is one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history and showed last year he did not miss a beat after being out all of the 2011 season. Manning makes any team he's on a Super Bowl contender, so going to a team that was already a Super Bowl contender should make them a Super Bowl favorite. To take some of the burden off of Johnson, we traded for Justin Blackmon. Blackmon is an emerging young star at WR who will not allow defenses to zero in on stopping Johnson. Together they form one of the best WR combinations in the NFL. Also brought in to help at WR is a long time favorite of Manning in Brandon Stokley. Last year when Stokley was reunited with Manning he showed he still has some gas left in the tank as a slot guy and had some big plays for the Broncos. Behind them are some young players with upside in DeVier Posey, Keshawn Martin, and rookie Marquess Wilson who has loads of talent, but slipped in the draft due to some concerns with an issue with the coaching staff at Washington State. We feel that is not going to be an issue going forward and feel we may have gotten a steal with this young man with excellent size and athleticism. At backup quarterback we feel comfortable with a couple of young, talented players in Yates and Bray. Yates has already shown he can play well if needed and we feel he still has some upside. Learning from Manning should only help him in his growth as a player. Bray has some issues with his game, but has elite arm talent, and we feel paring him up with fellow Tennessee alum Manning will be the best situation he could be in. At running back we feel good about the group of young players we have there. We hated to move Foster, but that is how good we feel about Tate, who has been great whenever he's had to fill in for Foster. We added Chris Ivory who got lost in the shuffle a little bit in New Orleans, but has a career average of 5.1 yards per carry. Ogbonnaya has shown some flashes in Cleveland as well. We also feel good about our two rookie backs. James and Johnson were both overshadowed a bit by star backs at Miami and Arkansas respectively, but that doesn't change the fact that they are both players who run hard and had success when given the ball. Even though we don't use a lot of true fullback sets, we added Zach Boren from OSU, who can play FB, but also played LB in college when they needed him to and should be a standout special teams player. At tight end Owen Daniels was swapped for Jacob Tamme in the Manning deal. Tamme may not be quite as good as Daniels, but his chemistry with Manning might make him just as productive. Because of the amount we want to use two tight end sets, we felt we needed to add a TE and feel like we got a very good one in Gavin Escobar. He is a big time receiving threat that we feel can improve in his blocking. We also like Garrett Graham quite a bit as a young player with upside. Our offensive line has been a big question mark so we completely rebuilt it with a mix of veterans and talented young players. The biggest move was adding Lane Johnson with our first round pick to play LT and protect Manning's blind side. We felt he has the chance to end up being the best OT out of this draft class when it's all said and done because of his massive upside. Justin Pugh was also added via the draft and we feel was a huge steal getting him in the 3rd round. He was a tackle in college, but we feel his best position will be at guard for us. At center we got a bargain is signing one of the best centers in the NFL in Dominic Raiola for $1.5M. At RG and RT we will have competition between veterans and second year players. At RT Bryant McKinnie will be challenged by Zebrie Sanders and Derek Newton, and at RG underrated veteran Geoff Schwartz will be challenged by last years 3rd round pick Brandon Brooks. Overall, we feel that we have an explosive offense that has no weaknesses and should be one of the highest scoring units in the league. Manning hasn't had this level of WR talent since Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne were in their prime, and we think with starters reps, Tate is going to break out. SLB: Von Miller/ Bryan Braman DE: JJ Watt/ Tim Jamison NT: Phil Taylor/ Terrell McClain DE: Antonio Smith/ Jared Crick WLB: Whitney Mercilus/ Erik Walden ILB: Jon Beason/ Darryl Sharpton ILB: Stephen Tulloch/ CB: Jonathan Joseph/ Bradley Fletcher/ Asa Jackson CB: Carey Willliams/ Drayton Florence S: Adrian Wilson/ Shiloh Keo S: Danieal Manning/ Eddie Pleasant Led by JJ Watt, the Texans defense was good last year. With the additions we've made, we now feel like we have the best defense in the league. At every starting position we have a guy that at the very least is above average, and in most spots are very good to elite. In Watt, Miller, and Joseph we have three of the best defensive players in the NFL. The strength of our defense is the front seven. JJ "Swat" was the best defensive player in the NFL last year destroying teams in every facet of the game. After fishing around a bit trying to find more defensive talent we landed a big one in Von Miller. Arguably the second best defensive player in the league behind Watt, Miller wreaks havoc on opposing quarterbacks with 30 sacks in his first two seasons in the NFL. Rounding out this star studded front 7 are perennially one of the best 3-4 ends in Antonio Smith who we convinced to restructure his deal to stay in Houston, emerging young nose tackle Phil Taylor who we got in a trade with Cleveland, last year's first round pick Whitney Mercilus, and two of the better inside linebackers in the NFL (both acquired in trades) in Jon Beason and Stephen Tulloch. Behind every one of these positions is a young player with upside. With the amount of pressure that front 7 puts on the quarterback it lessens the need for a great secondary, but nevertheless we have one of those as well. In the defensive backfield it all starts with shut down corner Jonathan Joseph. The second corner and nickel corner spots will be manned by free agents Carey Williams and Bradley Fletcher. They will battle it out in camp to see which player mans which of those spots for us, but regardless they will both play quite a bit. Williams was the Ravens top corner in their Super Bowl run, and Fletcher has been very good, but a little under the radar in St. Louis. Solid veteran Drayton Florence, and a young player who has nice upside (was a 5th round pick by the Ravens last year, so he has the Ozzie Newsome stamp of approval) in Asa Jackson. At safety Adrian Wilson and Danieal Manning are both very good veteran players who will make plays at the back end. Overall this is a defensive unit that really has no weakness and can beat you in a number of ways. DC Wade Phillips is one of the best in the business and now has some great toys to play with at his disposal. We think this will be a defense that teams will absolutely dread facing every week because not only will their quarterback be on his back quite a bit, they will punish your ball carriers, and turn you over at the drop of a hat. Jacksonville Jaguars 2013 roster Jacksonville Jaguars GM: Bdogtitan11 Co-GMs: Ashy Larry and UCF FINatic Coaching Staff: HC - Gus Bradley OC - Jedd Fisch DC - Bob Babich Preface... WE INHERITED THE WORST TEAM IN THE NFL. Yes, that’s right, the Jaguars are THE WORST TEAM IN THE NFL (seriously, read the link: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...e-weakest-rosters-jacksonville-jaguars-at-top). Through savvy trades, FA pickups and a good draft, we built a contender that is ready to contend now, while not mortgaging our future. Clearly, we wanted a challenge. Anyone can take a playoff team and keep them at the same level. But taking over a 2-14 team with next to no assets, and transforming them into a Top 5 team? No easy task. Our strategy was to find a franchise QB without giving up too much. Through a series of trades, we essentially acquired Matt Ryan and a 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] round pick for our 1[SUP]st[/SUP] round pick (No. 2 overall). That enabled us to build around a Top 5 QB just entering his prime. With an elite LT, an explosive young RB and 3 900-yard receivers, this is an offense that will keep defenses off balance and should thrive for years. Defensively, half of our starting lineup hit free agency, while 3 or 4 others were simply overpaid. We gutted an underachieving unit and added marquee players in our new 3-4 front while accumulating a young, productive secondary. No more small details. Take a look at our finalized roster, it should speak for itself. Starters: Before/After *As you can see we took a team with 0 Pro Bowlers in 2012 and added 7 2012 Pro Bowlers (at key positions such as QB, HB, LT, S) Final Roster(In Order of Depth Chart, starters in bold) Quarterback ($10,480,000) Matt Ryan ($10,000,000) (2x Pro Bowl: 2010, 2012) Dan Orlovsky ($480,000) At 27, Matty Ice had his best season ever and an even better postseason, silencing critics who say he isn’t clutch. He had the 5th highest QB rating in the regular season (99.1) and the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] highest QB rating in the Postseason (105.2). Orlovsky is a solid backup with starting experience. Running Back ($2,552,620) Doug Martin ($1,542,620) (Pro Bowl, 2012) Isaac Redman ($530,000) Evan Royster ($480,000) Martin is the game’s most electrifying young RB, running for 1,454 yards, logging 472 receiving yards, 12 TDs, and making the Pro bowl…as a ROOKIE. Redman and Royster both have experience has change-of-pace backs. Fullback ($960,000) Greg Jones ($480,000) (Pro Bowl, 2007) Montell Owens ($480,000) (2x pro Bowl, 2010, 2011) Jones is an elite FB that can block, catch and run. Owens is a special teams stud and a real solid third-down back. Wide Receiver ($17,247,767) Stevie Johnson ($5,650,000) Cecil Shorts ($728,767) Brian Hartline ($9,789,000) Michael Jenkins ($600,000) Brad Smith ($480,000) Arguably the deepest WR group in the GML with 3 of the top 23 WRs in terms of yards last season; Stevie Johnson and Brian Hartline both had over 1,000 yards while Cecil Shorts had 979 yards in only 14 games. Stevie Johnson will be our primary receiver, with Shorts as an excellent deep threat and slot option, and Hartline providing damage on intermediate patterns. We feel these three WRs provide us with a lot of play calling and schematic versatility while complimenting each other. Smith is a great gadget guy and Jenkins provides size. Tight End ($1,586,212) Dallas Clark ($480,000) (Pro Bowl, 2009) Anthony McCoy ($656,212) Michael Williams ($450,000) Diverse group to be used in different situations and packages. Clark is still a proficient pass-catching specialist, recording over 450 Yds and 4 TDs last year. McCoy is balanced, efficient TEs per PFF (Top 7 PFF grade in terms of receiving yards per route ran). Williams is a dominant run blocker and rounds out our group of TEs. Offensive Tackle ($12,036,667) LT Duane Brown ($5,000,000) (Pro Bowl, 2012. All Pro, 2012) RT Gosder Cherilus ($6,000,000) Cam Bradfield ($556,667) Wayne Hunter ($480,000) Bookend tackles, arguably the top tackle duo in the GML with Brown and Cherilus. Brown was PFF’s top LT in 2012, easily the most dominant OT in the NFL. Cherilus grades as top 12 OT; while recording a Pass Blocking Efficiency among to leagues top 10 tackles. Hunter has starting experience and Bradfield has done well in spot duty. Offensive Guard ($11,230,000) LG Chris Kuper ($6,000,000) (Pro Bowl, 2012) RG Willie Colon ($3,750,000) Charlie Johnson ($1,000,000) Mike Brewster ($480,000) Kuper is coming off stellar year, albeit ankle surgery; he said he’s progressing nicely and will be ready to go this season. Johnson is an excellent backup plan, paving way for Adrian Peterson’s 2,000-yard campaign. Colon has been excellent since his move to RG. Brewster will provide depth. Center ($1,250,000) Dan Koppen ($750,000) (Pro Bowl, 2007. All Pro, 2007) Dalton Freeman ($500,000) Koppen provides a steady veteran presence in the interior of the line. We like Freeman’s long-term potential after he tore up the combine. 3-4 DE ($21,612,500) RE Ndamukong Suh ($17,172,500) (2X Pro Bowl, 2010, 2012. 2010, 2012 All Pro) LE Red Bryant ($3,000,000) Dwan Edwards ($480,000) Nate Collins ($480,000) Marcus Forston ($480,000) Suh spearheads a big, athletic front. He’s arguably the league’s most dominant DT and will be asked to play the JJ Watt type role, rushing the passer, disrupting passing lanes and still fighting against the run. Dwan Edwards provides exceptional depth as well as the ability to rush the passer on 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] downs; had 6 sacks, 52 tackles last year. Red Bryant is one of the best run-stuffers in the league and will help free up our linebackers. Nose Tackle ($2,275,000) Ryan Pickett ($1,750,000) John Jenkins ($525,000) Pickett is a prototypical NT at 6-2, 340 allowing him to eat up blockers. Pickett accumulated 51 tackles last year and will help provide some veteran leadership. John Jenkins was a good value in the draft and is big, strong, and mobile; he is the future NT of our team. Red Bryant could additionally play the NT position in a pinch. Rush Outside Linebacker ($19,823,000) LOLB Anthony Spencer ($12,000,000) (Pro Bowl, 2012) ROLB Shaun Phillips ($6,863,000) (Pro Bowl, 2010) Lawrence Jackson ($480,000) Trevor Scott ($480,000) Anthony Spencer emerged as an elite 3-4 OLB, totaling 95 tackles and 12 sacks last year. Shaun Phillips is a playmaker notching 9.5 sacks in 2012 and 65.5 sacks over the past 8 years and at 31 he still has a lot left in the tank. Having both Spencer and Phillips will allow us to pressure the QB from either side. Jackson can work as a 1[SUP]st[/SUP] and 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] down run stopper, and Scott is a situational pass rusher. Inside Linebacker ($3,830,000) Kevin Minter ($1,550,000) Arthur Brown ($800,000) Larry Foote ($1,000,000) Paris Lenon ($480,000) Compared to NaVorro Bowman, Arthur Brown is a speedy tackling machine who can play inside, outside and cover. Minter serves as our spill LB, as he’s strong enough to take on and shed blocks, freeing up tackles for Brown. Foote is a savvy 3-4 ILB and had career year last year with 113 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 FF, and 2 FR. Foote can start or mentor our rookie ILBs depending on how they show in training camp. Lenon was a FA steal, who had 103 tackles last year, and 4 100-tackle seasons. Cornerback ($7,546,000) Lardarius Webb ($5,385,000) Chris Harris Jr. ($556,000) (2012 PFF Pro Bowler) NB Tyrann Mathieu ($575,000) Byron Maxwell ($550,000) Perrish Cox ($480,000) One of the GML’s top corner combos, Lardarius Webb is elite when healthy and will be 100 percent in 2013. Chris Harris Jr. is emerging as a rising star in the NFL (Top 10 PFF grade in terms of yards allowed per passing play). Mathieu is playmaker who will excel as our NB. Cox is capable of playing inside or out. Maxwell was excellent last year when pushed into a starting role. Free Safety ($2,980,000) Thomas Decoud ($2,500,000)(Pro Bowl, 2012) Madieu Williams ($480,000) Thomas Decoud is a ball-hawking FS who had 6 INT last year in addition to 76 tackles. Williams has lots of starting experience and provides excellent depth. Strong Safety ($2,452,825) Major Wright ($1,492,825) Reed Doughty ($480,000) Don Jones ($480,000) Major Wright can do it all from the strong safety position. Last season, Wright had 71 tackles, 4 INTs, 1 FF and 2 FR; it’s scary to think that he is only 24 years old and is only going to get better. Doughty is big-time thumper and special teams stud. Jones, an UDFA, should make impact on special teams. Special Teams Kicker: Ryan Longwell Punter: Bryan Anger Long Snapper: Mike Leach Kick Returners: Tyrann Mathieu and Brad Smith Punt Returner: Tyrann Mathieu Anger was amazing as a rookie last year averaging 47.8 yards per punt. Longwell is a consistent veteran. Leach is as solid as a long snapper can be. Mathieu excelled as a returner in college and Smith was pretty good in Buffalo last year. The Green Bay Packers had 3 main objectives heading into the offseason. 1. Switch from a 3-4 to a 4-3 defense. This was done mostly for fun and because I prefer a the 4-3 defense. I feel very good about the moves I made and the tranisiton that has happened. My front 4 should wreak havoc on opposing QB's. DE's Robert Mathis and Jabaal Sheard should provide plenty of pass rush from the outside, while veteran Kyle Williams and rookie Sheldon Richardson will collapse pockets regularly. An almost completely revamped LB corps led by SLB Chad Greenway, MLB Pat Angerer and WLB Wesley Woodyard could be one of the best and starting trios in the league. Casey Hayward, one of the leagues best young corners, leads a strong CB corps along with Sam Shields and Corey Webster. While the underated MD Jennings and rookie Matt Elam will play the saftties spots. 2. Making the offensive line better. While trading away Clay Matthews wasnt the easiest thing to do, getting LT Joe Thomas in return took the sting away. Thomas alone instantly makes the Packers line much improved. Mainstays, Josh Sitton, Bryan Bulaga and highly touted rookie Jonathon Cooper will help give QB Aaron Rodgers more time to pick apart opposing defense. 3. Shore up the running game. A 100% completely revamped RB corps should provide Rodgers with a more stable and formidable running attack. Beanie Wells, when healthy, is a guy who could carry the light load expected of a Packers RB. Jonathan Dwyer, Mike Tolbert and Daryl Richardson, should provide plenty of support to Wells, should he need it. Below is a write up of his thoughts and some questions that were answered: Well it has been a busy couple of months and the Steelers today have significantly changed, I feel for the better. We changed offenses somewhat, we have not abandoned being a running team per se, we just switched from big powerful backs to backs with power but can make big plays. We traded for Frank Gore, drafted a young kid we like in Joseph Randle, signed or traded for a couple other backs, one being Chris Polk who will switch to fullback for us. We believe this adds a weapon as Chris was a playmaker at Wash and went into his senior year with heavy expectations, unfortunately he hurt his shoulder and that affected his stock. Philadelphia took a chance and even though they had several other backs, they liked Polk enough they kept him. We know why, Chris can be a guy that can block, can run from the FB position and is a good option to catch a swing pass. With Chris and Frank in the same backfield it poses problems for the defense. We also signed Jonas Grey off waivers from Miami, we feel this kid coming back from injury and is hungry, and is in a great situation here being a situational player that can help while he grows and becomes the player we think he can become. Alex Green is a change of pace guy that has talent and with all the backs here doesn’t have the pressure which will alow him to grow, so we are glad he is here. We feel we definitely upgraded as a whole. We did make the hard decision to let veteran leaders go either through waiver or trade. I just felt this team was old with significant cap issues; we needed to get younger, with more team speed yet stay physical, with more big play capabilities. With that we brought in Joe Lombardi at OC who we feel will make this offense fresh while combining the tradition with a new approach and an offense that similar to NO, can score at any time or place on the field. To that end, we have brought in Brock Osweiller to lead this team. We felt he was a talent that has franchise potential and a year behind Peyton Manning has provided invaluable knowledge on work ethic and dedication and preparation. On Defense you can see for yourself, we drafted guys and signed some FA that allow us to do what we do best, get after the qb. We also improved a secondary that gave up too many big plays. The draft we focused on BPA at places of need. We feel good about it, we didn’t go after flash, we went for substance, we got guys we feel fit with the mold of this team, that are pieces to the puzzle, they are not the whole puzzle themselves. This draft was superb at depth at core type players that while not superstars, can be solid contributors, the type of players Steelers covet. Overall we feel that we have gotten younger, faster and maintained and added playmakers but stayed true to our core belief.
valhalla rising: the 2013 minnesota vikings offseason goals The Vikings have the NFL’s MVP. On offense, my goal was to do everything I could to help Adrian Peterson continue to run roughshod over the NFL. Defensively, I wanted pass rush, speed, more speed, and coverage. Based on those concepts, I set out with some very specific goals for the offseason: Find more playmakers on offense. I knew going in that this was going to be a challenge. I brought in a couple of decent receivers in Domenik Hixon and Jason Avant. I was stoked to be able to get Chris Harper late in the draft process, and I view him as a poor-man’s Anquan Boldin Improve the offensive line. The Vikings had a very good set of tackles and a good center, but their guard play was pedestrian last season. I traded for both Zane Beadles and Kevin Zeitler. They’re clear upgrades at both guard spots. Losing Loadholt hurt, but Barry Richardson is serviceable and Jordan Mills has the potential to move into a starting role at some point down the line. Revamp the defensive line. Gerald McCoy, Jason Allen, Desmond Bryant, Everson Griffen. The front four is now among the scariest in the NFL. I’m really excited about this unit. Get some help in the secondary. Harrison Smith was great as a rookie, but the rest was question marks. Antoine Winfield is winding down his career. Bringing in the Trufants should set things up for the foreseeable future, and Jairus Byrd rounds out the secondary. What was a weakness is now a strength. While wide receiver remains a work in progress, I feel like the offensive line, defensive line, and secondary are among the best and deepest in the NFL. I was very happy with what I was able to accomplish overall. I'm not going to break down each trade, signing, or draft pick, but if you're interested in perusing my full body of work, you can check out my team page here. team philosophy offense On offense things will remain relatively straightforward. It starts and ends with Adrian Peterson. We’re going to line up and punch you in the mouth. I want to run the ball down the opposing team’s throat. We’re hoping that Christian Ponder can continue to develop into a solid game manager for us. Jerome Felton is back to help open holes and clear the way for AP. The WR core remains a work in progress, but Hixon and Avant are high character guys that can also make plays for us. Rudolph remains a very underrated tight end. The offensive line has been tweaked with new starters at both guard spots and is now one of the most complete units in the NFL. defense Everyone knows it’s a passing league. To counter that trend, I wanted a “Fast Break” style defense. That starts up front with the defensive line. I spent some money there, but pass rush is a premium. I wanted to be able to generate a consistent pass rush with my front four, so that I can deploy my linebackers into coverage. Erin Henderson is gone, as are Chad Greenway and Jasper Brinkley. Replacing them are virtually interchangeable linebackers – speedy guys, capable of wreaking havoc from all over the field. The final piece of the puzzle was the secondary, where I’ll be running a cover 2. I needed a home run hitter in the secondary, and that’s why Jairus Byrd was such a key for me. The goal is controlled chaos on defense. Constant pressure up front, speed from the linebacker core, and lockdown coverage in the secondary. It is my belief that I’ve built one of the NFL’s most exciting and talented defenses. Both the base scheme and the 4-2-5 have been designed to maximize the talent on the roster. This defense is scary good. team roster quarterbacks In Christan Ponder, we have a guy who has struggled a bit at the outset of his career and hasn't quite put it together. Think Ponder isn't serviceable? Take a look at that Joe Webb playoff game from last year. Ponder may not be an All Pro, but he can get the job done. That said, we're hedging our bets a bit. We picked up Nassib midway through the draft as an insurance policy, and the underrated Greg McElroy will hold down the third QB spot. You can never have too many good QBs. Christian Ponder: $2,770,554 Greg McElroy: $480,000 Ryan Nassib: $575,000 running backs Most of the time when building teams I like to utilize a committee approach at the running back position. I like getting guys who can do specific things on the field - short yardage, passing game, inside, outside, etc. That approach doesn't really apply when you have the best running back of a generation on your team. Instead I made resigning fullback Jerome Felton a priority, as he's familiar with the system and a good fullback is invaluable to a power running team, which is what we are striving for on offense. Adrian Peterson: $13,900,000 Matt Asiata: $480,000 Toby Gerhart: $1,026,000 Jerome Felton: $2,050,000 wide receivers & tight ends This is a modest unit, to be sure. I'm not really a fan of overpaying for Wide Receivers in this league, which means I'm relegated to going after guys most folks probably aren't targeting. Hixon has been a part of a winning unit in New York, and Avant has been successful as an Eagle. My approach was to add some moderately priced veterans, while focusing on the development of the younger receivers on the roster - I'm really looking for someone to step up between Childs, Wright, Simpson, and Harper. Don't sleep on Harper long term. He's an underrated player who may eventually have a stronger career as a pro than as an amateur. I do like our situation at tight end. Kyle Rudolph has quietly developed into one of the better tight ends in the NFC. Chase Coffman is a bit of a reclamation project, and Rhett Ellison was one of PFF's top rated H-Backs. Chris Harper: $475,000 Domenik Hixon: $3,000,000 Greg Childs: $555,146 Jarius Wright: $585,027 Jason Avant: $2,710,000 Jerome Simpson: $650,000 Chase Coffman: $480,000 Kyle Rudolph: $1,021,791 Rhett Ellison: $555,146 offensive linemen I've covered my focus on rebuilding the interior of the line already, so I'm not going to rehash that again. I do believe that this unit is among the best in the NFL, which is good since we're going to be running the Wing T (that was a joke). People will most likely point to Barry Richardson as the weakest link - I should point out he actually played very well in St. Louis last year. There is a succession plan in place - Jordan Mills could eventually supplant him in the starting lineup. Let's talk about offensive line depth for a second. Depth is very important to me when I'm building my offensive line. As a general rule, offensive lineman take the most abuse of any position on the field, literally getting slammed into on every play. That means you need to have depth, because there's more risk of injury. I really like the depth of this unit. I built it looking for two things: Experience and Versatility. Starks can play either T spot and has experience at G, Robert Turner can play 4 spots on the line. Hangartner is another guy who has starting experience. Barry Richardson: $1,000,000 Jordan Mills: $575,000 Matt Kalil: $4,493,318 Max Starks: $480,000 Ben Ijalana: $500,000 Geoff Hangartner: $480,000 Kevin Zeitler: $1,714,418 Zane Beadles: $1,060,000 John Sullivan: $4,250,000 Robert Turner: $501,000 defensive linemen What can I say about this defensive line? This unit was one of the signatures of my offseason. I got younger and better, losing Brian Robson and Kevin Williams, but adding a Top 3 guy in Gerald McCoy and a Top 10 guy in Desmond Bryant. I'm excited about John Simon. He's a hustle player and he gets to learn from Jared Allen for a few years. In Te'o-Nesheim and Christian Ballard, I have more scheme versatility available - they can play pretty much every technique along the defensive line. This is the best defensive line in the NFL. Yes I'm biased, but the talent up front is just ridiculous. D'Aundre Reed: $567,563 Everson Griffen: $765,000 George Johnson: $500,000 Jared Allen: $21,750,000 John Simon: $575,000 Christian Ballard: $656,888 Daniel Te'o-Nesheim: $480,000 Desmond Bryant: $8,250,000 Gerald McCoy: $10,916,250 linebackers There's no big names here, and that was by design. Early in the process I knew I was going to have to decide which direction to go at the MLB spot, which was the big question mark for me going into the offseason. I ended up signing Moise Fokou in what I felt was an inspired move. Fokou has been simmering for a while, and is actually expected to start for the Titans next season, I believe. With Fokou, Manny Lawson, Quincy Black, and Thomas Howard I have 4 capable starters at 3 spots. The only one making seven figures is Black, as I got both Howard and Lawson for well under market value. I considered adding more here during the draft, but unfortunately that just wasn't in the cards, as I had a number of targets get selected just before my picks. Long term I'd like to add some youth to this unit, but I just didn't get that done this time out. I'm still very happy with this underrated unit. Larry Dean: $555,000 Manny Lawson: $600,000 Quincy Black: $1,000,000 Thomas Howard: $550,000 Blake Costanzo: $480,000 Moise Fokou: $650,000 secondary This was a spot where we just had to get better. Outside of Smith and Winfield, Minnesota was pretty abysmal. The addition of the Trufect should change that. Desmond will step into the #2 role, while his brothers will add depth at nickel and dime. We also plan on asking Marcus to take some snaps for us at S. The hero here is Jairus Byrd, who would be a household name if he played anywhere else but Buffalo. This guy is a stud in the making and takes the secondary to the next level. I'd argue that this unit is among the best in the NFL. Antoine Winfield: $7,200,000 Chris Cook: $1,150,000 Desmond Trufant: $1,750,000 Isaiah Trufant: $500,000 Marcus Trufant: $500,000 Ron Brooks: $580,250 Jairus Byrd: $10,000,000 Robert Blanton: $532,763 Harrison Smith: $1,622,397 special teams Kluwe may be the coolest punter in history. Loeffler snaps balls. And then there's the Blair Walsh Project at Kicker. As far as the return game goes, I'll probably use Desmond Trufant as my primary Punt Returner and Chris Harper will be asked to return kicks. Blair Walsh: $509,483 Chris Kluwe: $1,450,000 Curtis Loeffler: $500,000 coaching staff The Vikings surprised everyone and make the playoffs last year. Quarterback Josh Freeman Tyler Thigpen So I traded Cam Newton. It was a big deal for both parties. I got a lot in return for him (rightfully so) a couple of firsts (which I turned into Calvin Johnson) and Josh Freeman. Freeman gets a lot of flak from league parties, and people here, but living in NFC South country, I see a lot of the kid. He is young, big, strong arm, and can win ball games. I feel with all the weapons I have gathered for him, and his familiarity with this division, he will have much success, and lead us to the playoffs for years to come. Running Back Jonathan Stewart Felix Jones Stefphon Jefferson(R) Armond Smith Tauren Poole I came into this GM League knowing I needed to get rid of one of my running backs. And I knew that would be DeAngelo Williams. He had over 9mm against the cap, and has been dwindling in production for the last few years. Jonathan Stewart is younger, and fresher (splitting carries all his career) and I felt he would benefit from now being the lead horse. I added good depth in Felix Jones and rookie pick Stefphon Jefferson. With my weapons at wide receiver and tight end, there will be big opportunities for my running game to excel with 6 and 7 in the box consistently. Fullback John Kuhn I love the addition of veteran John Kuhn to my backfield. He bring a locker room presence, comes from a winning tradition, and will excel catching out of the backfield with defenses having him 5 or 6th in they're worries. Wide Receiver Calvin Johnson Jeremy Maclin Sydney Rice Doug Baldwin David Gettis Joe Adams The strength of my offense. Who wants to defend these guys? PFF ranked Sydney Rice as one of their top receivers when healthy. Jeremy Maclin is a burner that will consistently be single covered and will have a huge year in this offense with....Calvin Johnson being on the opposite side of the field from him. What can I say? I added the best receiver in the league to my offense, and not only that, I added weapons around him. Joining him in the passing game will be stud receiving tight end Greg Olsen. I feel this crew of wide receivers is the best in the league, and would be the best by far in the real NFL as well. Doug Baldwin and David Gettis are nice depth as well for me. Tight End Greg Olsen Dj Williams One of the best receiving tight ends in the league. Greg Olsen was consistently in Cam Newtons crosshairs. Greg makes plays down the field, has terrific YAC, and is a ***** to defend on a crappy offense, imagine the difficulty now with safetys and corners leading over the Calvin Johnsons side, or playing deep over the top on Maclin? Olsen will have a field day down the seams. Adding Dj Williams for depth was good for me. One of my favorites coming out of college at Arkansas, this smaller/Seam tight end has been playing behind Jeremy Finley for years, and I feel will have success when given an opportunity. Offensive Line Jordan Gross Ryan Kalil Amini Silatolu Byron Bell Nate Garner Dallas Thomas(R) I added a Miami Dolphin draft pick before they did, and that always gets brownie points Drafting Dallas Thomas was a good move for me and a need in the 3rd round. I exhausted my first and second round selections bringing in Calvin Johnson etc, so getting a need selection with Dallas with my first pick made me smile. I also got him later (a little) than where he was originally drafted, so I felt good about it. Ryan Kalil is one of the best centers in the league and the anchor for my line. Right now with an aging Jordan Gross, and bringing in young blood in Dallas, I feel this group would go into training camp battling for spots. I added veteran and swiss army knife Nate Garner in free agency, so I have plenty of options here. Defensive Line Alex Carrington Alan Branch Tony McDaniel Frank Kearse Sione Fua Sure I don't have a Star Latoullel. But I did add Alan Branch for peanuts, and got Alex Carrington for cheap as well. These 2 guys will be the anchor of my 4-3 defense, and will cause havoc in the run game, opening up opportunities for my linebackers, and also getting a good opportunity for causing hurries on passing downs due to my ends being ruthless and adding great corners Defensive Ends Charles Johnson Greg Hardy Willie Young Frank Alexander Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy were both well sought after by most in the GM league. I thought about moving one of them, but decided to keep both to continue causing havoc on opposing quarterbacks. Hardy is young, fiery, and will benefit greatly from the better coverage I have added at corner back. Charles Johnson is one of the best 4-3 DE's in the league. Keeping him is a huge plus. I added a situational pass rusher in Willie Young, who had little success in Detroit, and will benefit from situational nickel rushing duties on our defense. Linebackers Luke Kuechly James Anderson Brian Urlacher Devonte Holloman(R) Doug Hogue I added Brian Urlacher as a stop gap to fill my linebacking crew till later. I understand the GM league is one year affair, which really it works well either way. Urlacher mixed with Kuechly is a dream to see on the field. Brian has some years left, and I really like James Anderson, so I am happy with my crew. Adding Holloman in the draft was good, hes a local talent from near by Rock Hill SC, and will have a good opportunity to grow behind my young backers. Cornerbacks Sean Smith Brandon Browner Captain Munerlyn Josh Norman James Dockery Josh Thomas Ohhh boy do I love this group! Top 3 things I wanted to do at the start of this thing was getting a good defensive back crew. The Panthers have consistently had bad defensive backs. I spent big and brought in Sean Smith, and traded older Steve Smith for one of the top young corners in the league in Brandon Browner. Smitty was a Panther for life, but considering my WR Crew now, trading him for Browner was a no-brainer. Smith is 6'3 and Browner is 6'4. Holy **** thats some big boys. Having Captain Munnerlyn resigned cheap in his more natural nickel corner role, will be huge. Josh Norman will probably be the Panthers real-life starter, so I have some huge depth in what was a HUGE weakness when I took over. Very happy with my DBs considering the pass-happy division I play in. Safetys Charles Godfrey TJ McDonald(R) DJ Campbell I drafted Tj Mcdonald at the end of the 3rd round (91st overall) he was the 71st draft pick in the real nfl. I feel he immediatley steps in and starts for my teams. Considering my corners, he will be able to roam the deep 3rd of the field and make plays on the ball, and will also have the benefit of being able to be free to make plays. Charles Godfrey is a solid starter in this league, and will benefit from everything mentioned also. Very happy with my defensive backs. Kansas City Chiefs GM: TractorTraylor HC: Andy Reid OC: Doug Peterson DC: Bob Sutton Overview: Coming into the off-season, I identified the areas of weakness for the Chiefs. Looking at the 2012 season, it was obvious that the Chiefs needed a change at the QB position and needed to limit turnovers. Although we finished 2-14, we still managed to send 6 players to Hawaii. That said, we made a concerted effort to retain that talent and use them as our foundation. Roster: Ben Roethlisberger QB $20,595,000.00 Shaun Hill QB $550,000.00 Ricky Stanzi QB $619,763.00 Cyrus Gray RB $497,000.00 Jamaal Charles RB $3,333,333.00 Patrick DiMarco FB $480,000.00 Dwayne Bowe WR $10,537,000.00 Devon Wylie WR $593,850.00 Dexter McCluster WR $1,400,000.00 Jonathan Baldwin WR $2,189,528.00 Julian Edelman WR $530,000.00 Tony Moeaki TE $1,494,662.00 Steve Maneri TE $555,000.00 Donald Stephenson OT $639,375.00 Eric Winston OT $7,000,000.00 Jeff Allen OG $1,045,415.00 Jon Asamoah OG $1,551,030.00 Rodney Hudson C $956,209.00 Gino Gradkowski C $500,000.00 Allen Bailey DE $718,986.00 Anthony Toribio DE $555,000.00 Ropati Pitoitua DE $555,000.00 Armond Armstead DE $480,000.00 Dontari Poe NT $2,572,728.00 Jerrell Powe NT $607,368.00 Josh Chapman NT $500,000.00 Mike Devito DE $1,400,000.00 Steve McLendon DE $600,000.00 Cory Greenwood ILB $656,250.00 Derrick Johnson ILB $2,500,000.00 Justin Houston OLB $747,812.00 Tamba Hali OLB $15,500,000.00 Dan Conner ILB $650,000.00 Andy Studebaker OLB $500,000.00 Brad Jones ILB $4,100,000.00 Larry English OLB $650,000.00 Brandon Flowers CB $9,600,000.00 DeQuan Menzie CB $528,613.00 Jalil Brown CB $682,325.00 Javier Arenas CB $1,003,750.00 Ike Taylor CB $480,000.00 Adam Jones CB $1,100,000.00 Eric Berry SS $10,154,000.00 Kendrick Lewis FS $1,323,000.00 CJ Spillman FS $500,000.00 Dustin Colquitt P $500,000.00 Phil Dawson K $480,000.00 Eric Fisher LT $3,000,000.00 Eddie Lacy RB $800,000.00 Travis Frederick OL $475,000.00 Nick Kasa TE $475,000.00 Chris Faulk OT $475,000.00 Robert Lester FS $450,000.00 Tourek Williams OLB $425,000.00 TOTAL SALARY: $120,811,997.00 Depth Chart: QB Roethlisberger - Hill - Stanzi Notes: After watching Matt Cassel and the obsurd number of turnovers, this was the primary focus of our off-season. By bringing in Big Ben, the Chiefs finally have the franchise QB that they've lacked for years. Shaun Hill is a veteran back-up who has proven he can win games when called upon. RB Charles - Lacy (R) - Gray Notes: We all know the game changing ability that Jamaal Charles brings to a team. After the Peyton Hillis experiment failed in 2012, we looked to the draft for the replacement and "thunder" to Jamaal's lightning. Lacy's hard-hitting style is a great compliment while Cyrus Gray has time to learn the ropes. FB DiMarco TE Moeaki - Kasa(R) - Maneri Notes: Moeaki is talented if he can stay healthy. Knowing that, we draft Kasa who can help stretch the field. A former lineman, Maneri is an ideal blocking TE who has surpisingly soft hands for a former tackle. WR Bowe - McCluster - Wylie Notes: With Coach Reid at the helm, it was imperative that we retain Bowe. He is a great fit for the WC offense and finally gets a legitimate QB to throw him the ball. McCluster is someone that Coach Reid has admired since he entered the NFL a few years ago. With such great versatility, it's exciting to see how he'll be involved in this new offense. Wylie helps in the return game and has the speed and quickness to play the slot and stretch the field. LT Fisher (R) - Stephenson Notes: When Eric Fisher fell to 8, we felt compelled to make a move and get our franchise tackle for the next 12 years. We love his versatility and high ceiling. Donald Stephenson is fully capable of starting at either tackle position so we feel happy to have him as a back-up. OG Allen - Frederick (R) Notes: Last years 2nd round pick, Jeff Allen is expected to take the next step in 2013. He has potential to man the position for the next decade. Rookie Frederick has scheme versatility, able to play any of the interior positions. We expect him to push Allen for a starting gig in the next few years. C Hudson - Gradkowski Notes: Hudson, a former 2nd round pick, is recovering from a broken leg. Should Gradkowski have a great camp, which he's fully capable of, then Hudson has the versatility to slide to guard. OG Asamoah - Frederick (R) Notes: Asamoah has been acknowledged at one of the most underrated young talents in the league. He will hold down this position while giving Charles plenty of space to run. RT Winston - Faulk (R) Notes: Winston is a top 10 RT in this league. He and Asamoah provide great running lanes for the running game with the athleticism to play in Andy Reid's screen game. WR Baldwin - Edelman Notes: Baldwin has the natural talent to start in this league. We are banking on Reid's tutelege to bring him to the next level. Edelman is a poor man's Wes Welker and will offer the offense a versatile playmaker. DE Devito - Armstead - Toribio Notes: Although losing Glenn Dorsey hurts, his name is more well known than his actual production. Devito is a perfect fit for the 3-4 DE slot, proving some of the best run defense in the league, something we lacked in 2012. Armstead is an up and comer who we expect to challenge for a starting guide once he acclimates to the NFL. Toribio can rotate to anywhere on the line. NT Poe - Chapman - Powe Notes: Last year's first round pick, Poe is an athletic freak at the NT spot. He started all of 2012 with decent results but with the talent being bolstered around him, Poe should step into his own. Chapman, who we were extemely high of coming out of Alabama last year, is healthy and ready to contribute. All 3 of these NTs having starting potential so we're happy to be able to rotate them and keep them all fresh. DE Bailey - Pitoitua - McLendon Notes: Bailey has been a role player for the past 2 years, stuck behind first round picks Dorsey and Jackson. Naturally strong, he provides a great pass rush for the 3-4 DE position. Pitoitua and McClendon are more of a traditional run stopping end. OLB Hali - Studebaker ILB D.Johnson - Conner ILB B.Jones - Greenwood OLB Houston - T.Williams (R) Notes: The linebacking corp is the strength of our defense. Both pass rushers (Hali and Houston) as well as Derrick Johnson went to the Pro Bowl last year. They are able to keep constant pressure on opposing signal callers. Adding Brad Jones to the starting lineup finally gives the Chiefs a complete unit. The position next to DJ has lacked in the past year so we're excited to see Jones' ability when he plays with 3 pro bowlers. CB Flowers - Arenas - Brown SS Berry - Menzie FS Lewis - Spillman - Lester (R) CB A.Jones - I.Taylor Notes: Flowers is one of the most underrated CBs in the league. Most QBs don't want to challenge him so the other side of the field sees alot of action. Between veterans Adam Jones and Ike Taylor, the Chiefs are prepared for the most potent of throwing offenses. Eric Berry is a 1st round pick and pro bowler who changes the game with his style of play. Now that Kendrick Lewis is healthy, he is a great compliment to Berry's playmaking style. Under will be the base alignment, but expect to see a lot of switching of personnel, formations, and gap assignments. There is a lot of talent and versatility, which will be taken advantage of. The pass rush has been upgraded- Brian Orakpo was traded, and replaced with Cliff Avril and John Abraham. The back end also saw a massive influx of talent. DEFENSIVE END Cliff Avril - DE - $13,000,000 Jason Jones - DE - $1,500,000 John Abraham - DE - $8,500,000 Ryan Kerrigan - DE - $2,378,334 NOTE: This is an extremely strong unit. Avril will play the Leo. Jones will start on the other side as a two-gapping 4-technique in base formations, and a one-gapping 3-technique in Bear fronts. Abraham will be a pass-rushing specialist, and opposite Avril makes for a deadly combination. Expect to see Avril, Abraham, Jones, and Kerrigan all on the field at the same time in passing situations. DEFENSIVE TACKLE Ricky Jean-Francois - DT - $4,000,000 D'Anthony Smith - DT - $480,000 Adam Carriker - DT - $4,000,000 Jarvis Jenkins - DT - $1,304,367 NOTE: RJF and Adam Carriker will be the starters. RJF will be a two-gapping 1-technique in base formations, and a 0-technique in a Bear front. Carriker will be a 3-technique. D'Anthony Smith is a great young talent, who is looking to breakout. LINEBACKER Philip Wheeler - OLB - $7,000,000 Rob Jackson - ILB - $1,835,000 Perry Riley - ILB - $1,455,500 Jamari Lattimore - ILB - $500,000 Keenan Robinson - ILB - $585,027 Ricky Elmore - OLB - $405,000 NOTE: Wheeler will be the SLB. Expect to see him rushing the passer a lot. Perry Riley will be the WLB. Jackson was one of the highest rated pass-coverage LBs in the NFL last season. He will be the starting MLB. CORNERBACK Tarell Brown - CB - $1,907,312 Stephon Gilmore - CB - $2,746,400 Joselio Hanson - CB - $1,900,000 Chris Owens - CB - $480,000 Richard Crawford - CB - $496,000 NOTE: Secondary was the biggest liability coming into the offseason. It is now a strength. Acquiring both Brown and Gilmore was a serious coup. SAFETY Dwight Lowery - FS - $3,850,000 George Wilson - SS - $4,491,667 Jordan Pugh - FS - $630,000 Tony Jefferson * - FS - $475,000 Devin Holland - SS - $480,000 NOTE: Lowery and Wilson are a great starting duo, a stark improvement from last season. SPECIAL TEAMS Dan Carpenter - PK - $1,500,000 CONCLUSION: The Washington Redskins have dramatically improved their team. They have built one of the strongest rosters ever seen. This roster will go down in GML history. The talent is almost overwhelming. It will be hailed for years to come. A new standard has been set.
QUARTERBACKS Ryan Tannehill, QB, $2,878,341.00 Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, $1,500,000.00 Pat Devlin, QB, $555,000.00 OVERVIEW: The Dolphins felt secure at the quarterback position knowing they had a potential franchise quarterback in Ryan Tannehill along with a solid developmental player in Pat Devlin. Ryan Tannehill showed a lot of promise in 2012, winning the starting quarterback role in a three man competition. Tannehill showed poise and awareness in the pocket while making plenty of plays for Miami. While Tannehill had a few issues, he showed that the Dolphins have a lot to be excited about in 2013. Knowing the likelihood that their back-up quarterback in 2012, Matt Moore, would likely receive a big payday and a starting job, they signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to be the second string quarterback. Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't your ideal starting quarterback however you can't ask for a much better back-up quarterback. RUNNING BACKS Lamar Miller, RB, $601,500.00 Daniel Thomas, RB, $882,717.00 Le'Veon Bell, RB, $525,000.00 [R] Jorvorskie Lane, RB, $480,000.00 Cierre Wood, RB, $425,000.00 [R] OVERVIEW: The Dolphins were very high on their fourth round draft pick in 2012, Lamar Miller, and already have him slated to be the starter. Daniel Thomas returns to the line-up and will likely compete with rookie Le'Veon Bell out of Michigan State to be the second string running back. Both Thomas and Bell have the ability to offer a different skillset than Miller. The Dolphins believe that these two players can provide an impact to the team in a variety of ways. The Dolphins also drafted Cierre Wood out of Notre Dame to round out the roster. Wood appears to be a potential gem of the running back class and they will look for him to provide an impact on special teams as well. Jorvorskie Lane rounds out the roster returning as the team's starting fullback. WIDE RECEIVERS Brandon Gibson, WR, $5,250,000.00 Nate Washington, WR, $5,100,000.00 Torrey Smith, WR, $924,224.00 Justin Hunter, WR, $800,000.00 [R] Donnie Avery, WR, $800,000.00 Rishard Matthews, WR, $492,848.00 OVERVIEW: The Dolphins completely rehauled the wide receiver position to give Ryan Tannehill the playmakers he needed to build off his rookie campaign. Torrey Smith was brought in to give the Dolphins a much needed big play presence. The Dolphins also added veteran Nate Washington who always seems to be quietly making plays. Washington will likely see time as a starter but will move into the slot on three receiver sets. Brandon Gibson was signed to give the Dolphins some added depth. Gibson's size and route-running ability should be very useful in Miami. The Dolphins felt like they weren't done yet with the wide receiver position and drafted Justin Hunter out of Tennessee in the second round. Hunter possesses a rare blend of size, speed, and overall athleticism that few receivers have. Donnie Avery was signed in free agency to give the Dolphins another big play presence. Avery seemingly was making plenty of big plays for Andrew Luck in 2012, this time the Dolphins hope he'll do the same for Ryan Tannehill. Rounding out the position is Rishard Matthews, whom Miami felt showed enough potential to warrant a roster spot. The Dolphins will look to Matthews to make an impact on special teams and continue to work his way up the depth chart. TIGHT ENDS Antonio Gates, TE, $6,862,500.00 Joel Dreessen, TE, $1,500,000.00 Charles Clay, TE, $583,250.00 OVERVIEW: The Dolphins chose to let Anthony Fasano test free agency and he joined Matt Moore in New England. The Dolphins replaced his production with one of the best tight ends in NFL History: Antonio Gates. While Antonio Gates may not have had his usual production in 2012 (49 rec, 538 yards, 7 TD), the entire San Diego offense suffered setbacks due to the Chargers offense overall poor performance. Charles Clay returns to Miami with hopes of building off his 2012 season. Clay will be able to provide position flexbility and expose mismatches in the secondary. The Dolphins round out the roster with free agent Joel Dreessen. Dreessen is certainly more of a blocking specialist and the Dolphins believe Dreessen offers a skill set to complement the rest of the tight ends. OFFENSIVE LINE Sam Baker, OL, $8,000,000.00 Wade Smith, OL, $7,000,000.00 Louis Vasquez, OL, $5,000,000.00 Mike Pouncey, OL, $2,525,371.00 Jonathan Martin, OL, $1,087,333.00 Kory Lichtensteiger, OL, $550,000.00 Ryan Harris, OL, $500,000.00 David Quessenberry, OL, $475,000.00 [R] Earl Watford, OL, $425,000.00 [R] OVERVIEW: The Dolphins also overhauled their offensive line with Jake Long seemingly regressing each year. The Dolphins also sold high on Rich Incognito and sent him packing to Baltimore. Sam Baker joined the Dolphins as the team's starting left tackle. Baker protected Matt Ryan's blindside for the past five years and this time he will protect Tannehill. Jonathan Martin returns to the team as the projected starting right tackle as well as the primary back-up to Baker. Ryan Harris signed as a free agent to be the primary swing tackle. Harris provides great depth as he has the ability to soundly play both left and right tackle. David Quessenberry, rookie out of San Jose State, rounds out the offensive tackles as he will look to provide additional depth. Quessenberry is known for his ability to play both tackle and guard. The Dolphins added veteran Wade Smith to play left guard for Miami. Wade Smith is quite possibly one of the best left guards in the NFL and fits the Dolphins scheme perfectly. Louis Vasquez was also signed to man the starting right guard role. Vasquez was one of the lone bright spots for San Diego's offensive line and the Dolphins were happy to bring him to Miami. The Dolphins brought in Kory Lichensteiger as a primary back-up at both guard positions as well as at center. Earl Watford, a rookie out of James Madison, was drafted to be the team's developmental player at offensive guard. Mike Pouncey rounds out the offensive line as he returns as the leader of the big uglies as the team's starting center. Mike Pouncey will look to continue his impressive play and make his first Pro Bowl appearance. DEFENSIVE LINE Randy Starks, DL, $8,405,000.00 Trent Cole, DL, $5,350,000.00 Cameron Wake, DL, $5,015,000.00 Sharrif Floyd, DL, $3,300,000.00 [R] Jared Odrick, DL, $1,939,868.00 Olivier Vernon, DL, $669,520.00 Billy Winn, DL, $499,670.00 Kheeston Randall, DL, $495,612.00 OVERVIEW: The Dolphins looked to re-tool the defensive line and it starts with All-Pro Cameron Wake. Cameron Wake returns to Miami as the team's starting left defensive end. The Dolphins added some much needed pass rush opposite of Wake by trading for Trent Cole. Trent Cole is exactly what Kevin Coyle wants in his defensive end. Cole had an off-season in 2012 however with 71 total sacks since 2005, the Dolphins believe that he can provide a huge impact in Miami across from Wake. The Dolphins will also look towards Olivier Vernon to offer depth at defensive end and continue his strong special teams play. Randy Starks returns to Miami as the team's starting nose tackle. Starks had a very strong season in 2012 earning his second Pro Bowl roster spot and will look to continue his impressive play. The Dolphins drafted Sharrif Floyd out of Florida to be the team's starting under tackle. The Dolphins believe Floyd has the ability to be one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL and when you Floyd as the weak link on a defensive line consisting of Wake, Starks, and Cole... that's a good thing. Jared Odrick returns to the Dolphins in 2013 as he will provide key depth at all of the positions on the defensive line. Kheeston Randall also returns to the team as he will look to earn some play time at nose tackle behind Starks. The Dolphins also added Billy Winn who had a solid rookie campaign in Cleveland last year. Winn will offer depth at the team's under tackle position. LINEBACKERS Karlos Dansby, LB, $8,575,000.00 Kevin Burnett, LB, $5,700,000.00 Koa Misi, LB, $1,186,905.00 Jason Trusnik, LB, $915,000.00 Kiko Alonso, LB, $575,000.00 [R] Gerald Hodges, LB, $475,000.00 [R] OVERVIEW: The Dolphins didn't change much at linebacker with all three of the starters from 2012 returning to the team. Karlos Dansby will return to Miami as the leader of the defense at middle linebacker. Kevin Burnett also had a very strong season in 2012 and will start once again at weakside linebacker. Koa Misi looked very good in 2012 with his ability to set the edge and find the ball carrier. Misi will return as the team's starting strongside linebacker. The Dolphins did add new depth at the linebacker position. The Dolphins drafted Kiko Alonso out of Oregon in the third round of the draft to be the eventual successor at linebacker. Alonso has a lot of raw talent and if he puts it all together, he could be one of the best linebackers in the NFL. The Dolphins drafted Gerald Hodges out of Penn State in round five as the team's back-up weakside linebacker. Hodges has very strong coverage skills and the ability to effectively play in space to go with his range. Jason Trusnik also returns to the Dolphins to lead the special teams in 2012 and offer depth at strongside linebacker. DEFENSE BACKS Tramon Williams, DB, $7,400,000.00 EJ Biggers, DB, $4,500,000.00 Chris Clemons, DB, $4,000,000.00 Reshad Jones, DB, $1,363,075.00 Jamar Taylor, DB, $800,000.00 [R] Terence Newman, DB, $750,000.00 Nolan Carroll, DB, $677,937.00 DJ Hayden, DB, $575,000.00 [R] Shamarko Thomas, DB, $575,000.00 [R] Kelcie McCray, DB, $500,000.00 OVERVIEW: The Dolphins did a major overhaul on the cornerback position with only one player returning to the team. The Dolphins traded for long-time Packer, Tramon Williams, to be the team's starting cornerback. Williams will look to prove that 2012 was a fluke season and will return to form. The Dolphins signed EJ Biggers to the be the team's starting cornerback opposite of Williams. Biggers has great size and the ability to excel in zone coverage. Two rookies were drafted to provide a spark to the secondary: Jamar Taylor out of Boise State and DJ Hayden out of Houston. Both Taylor and Hayden will look to compete for playing time as well as potentially winning a starting role. Terence Newman was added as additional depth. With a fairly young secondary, Newman's experience will be a huge benefit to the team. Nolan Carroll returns to the Dolphins with much less responsiblity in 2013. Carroll will aim to make an impact on special teams as well as provide depth. At safety, the Dolphins will see the return of both starters in 2012. Chris Clemons was re-signed to a contract to be the team's starting free safety. Clemons isn't exactly a huge playmaker however you cannot deny that he doesn't let the play happen behind him which is what Miami is looking for in a free safety. The Dolphins' biggest playmaker in Reshad Jones returns to the team as the starting strong safety. Jones will look to build off his impressive campaign in 2012 where he notched four interceptions and two forced fumbles. The Dolphins drafted Shamarko Thomas out of Syracuse in round three to offer depth at strong safety and possibly take over the free safety position in 2014. Kelcie McCray returns to the team in 2013 to offer depth at free safety. McCray was on IR in 2012 and the Dolphins hope the NFL will get to see the talent they believe McCray has. SPECIAL TEAMS John Denney, ST, $650,000.00 Sam Koch, ST, $601,000.00 Mike Nugent, ST, $480,000.00 OVERVIEW: The Dolphins chose to let go of Dan Carpenter and Brandon Fields due to their high cap number. They felt they were able to find players who offered more value in their price tag. Mike Nugent was signed to the team as the starting place kicker. Over the past two seasons, Nugent has made over 85% of his field goals and missed just one extra point. The Dolphins added Sam Koch who posted an average of 47.1 yards in 2012 and a net average of 40.8 yards, those numbers were comparable to Brandon Fields who made nearly three times as much money as Koch. John Denney returns to the team as the longsnapper and one of the leaders of the special teams. PRACTICE SQUAD John Lotulelei, LB, UNLV [R] Chris Jones, DT, Bowling Green [R] Ryan Jensen, OG, Colorado State-Pueblo [R] Micah Hyde, CB, Iowa [R] Charles Johnson, WR, Grand Valley State [R] OVERVIEW: The Dolphins added five players to their practice squad that they felt offered enough potential to possibly play in the NFL in the future: John Lotulelei, linebacker out of UNLV, has the ability to play a variety of positions in a 4-3 defense with his quickness and closing speed. Chris Jones (drafted 6.198 in NFL), defensive tackle out of Bowling Green, is a very stout defensive lineman who has good short area quickness. Ryan Jensen (drafted 7.203 in NFL), offensive guard out of Colorado State-Pueblo, is a very strong and athletic guard who possesses a nasty mean streak. Micah Hyde (drafted 5.159 in NFL), cornerback out of Iowa, is a very effective zone coverage defensive back who has the size and speed to play cornerback or safety. Charles Johnson (drafted 7.216 in NFL), wide receiver out of Grand Valley State, is a top notch athlete with blazing speed to go with his playmaking abilities. 29 out of 32 GMs submitted a final roster this year which is definitely among the best we've had. I'll allow the remaining three GMs until May 7th at 11:59PM EST to submit a final roster if they want to be eligible for the final roster voting. I've sent them 3-4 private messages throughout the week so if any of you guys want to pester them, feel free. Conuficus (CLE), RickyBobby (SD), and Duss (DET) were the only ones to not submit a final roster.
