When healthy this guy was actually one of the top tier tackles in football, he just turned 27, he's probably still maturing, give him a 1 year deal (assuming he passes the physical) with playing time incentives to keep him motivated to prove himself and maybe he learns what it takes to become a professional here in Miami. I'd feel much more comfortable with the protection up front if we brought him in, that way Martin gets to stay on the right side so when he gets put on his *** Tannehill can see it and step up/escape the pocket. and we won't have to trade up in the draft for one of the top 3 OT's or have to rely on the remote possibility of one of them falling to us.
that martin hate is unreal, he nowhere near looked as bad as he is made here, back to topic, a guy that quit on his team after getting paid....no thanks
So allegedly its dogged him since College. He was a lazy SOB then and still is. His own teammates went on record in San Diego as wanting him gone. Big time pass. Guy is a bigger baby then Manuel Wright.
many reports of his lack of professionalism ... everyone admits he 'could' be very, very good ... but doesn't seem to believe he actually has to work to reach that level. can't see Philbin ever agreeing to sign him ... with that work ethic.
Too lazy and unmotivated. I wouldnt trust him to not dog it like he did last year. You want to take a 1 year shot with someone as Martin Insurance? Try Bryant McKinnie. At least hes a professional who can help Martin and compete with him. That makes sense. Not the slag youre suggesting.
But he doesn't, that's my point, he actually one of the better LT's when he's on the field, that's why we should take the risk.
If its for the vet minimum I wouldn't mind giving him a chance the man is talented, maybe it would light a fire under Martin's @$$ and he'll get his act together. I will be the first to say cut Presley to make the room for it
It's not bad... Just a waste of time and possibly takes away reps from someone who will play better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The idea is to draft players who have character not sign players who are characters. Jared Gaither is not motivated and to be honest not that good anyway.
So... if we sign Gaither, and we move Martin to LT, what do you do with the newly signed Clabo? That being said... I dont see our FO signing a guy with the issues out there that he's got.
Pretty sure IF Gaither panned out Clabo would stay put and Martin would be the backup for both of them. Again Gaither may not pan out, but I'm okay with taking a no risk shot on him.
So you constantly bash Ireland for his personnel decisions, and this is your suggestion to upgrade the unit? Your solution to spend money on someone who according to his own teammates basically mailed it in would be considered career suicide for anyone on a management level. Pot, have you been formally introduced to kettle?
Noted. I will pass this right on to the Front Office. As we all know priority number 1 is to make you feel comfortable.
When a person resorts to a scorched Earth campaign, where they want us to sign ANYONE, then its proof positive that person is overly emotional and has a diminished ability for reason.
He won't come here because even Ireland isn't as desperate as adding a lazy, overweight, slow-witted tackle that can't stay away from the trainer's room... There's a reason he's still out there...he simply isn't very good...
Mainly because we still have someone much, much better on the roster to play LT....his name is Jonathan Martin...he's really better than Gaither, no matter how you look at it...
Anyone who says that Jared Gaither isn't good is either ignorant or purposely fudging the truth. He is very good when he is healthy; and I mean mentally and emotionally healthy as much as physically. I expect that after his ignominious departure from the Chargers that he has seriously sought some professional help from some top doctors. He may have a condition that isn't known publicly. If he has benefitted from the right therapy and is at least in the process of changing and growing as a man, then maybe a desperate team could give him a shot. If he has done nothing and is just remaining stagnant and spending his ill gotten gains then, absolutely not!! I would rather sign Winston Justice and give him a shot at LT. If nothing else he would be a far better swing tackle than anything we have. I do believe the Dolphins to be a desperate team at both LT and swing tackle. IMO Jonathan Martin should not even make the roster. It was a really bad draft pick on the same level as the 2nd rounder spent on Pat White. They need to move on.
If the coaches were having discussions with the FO about the black hole at LT it would certainly not be spoken of publicly, and I'm sure you are well aware of that.
Well, that's the main point about Gaither...apparently 31 other teams haven't deemed him as "healthy" yet either.... Apparently, Philbin and company feel differently than you do about Martin, at least at this point. You can't even compare the pick of Martin with the pick of White...White played in what, 5 games ?? That thinking is either ignorant or purposefully fudging the truth....
