New reveal came out, aside from those 20 sec teasers that did nothing.

What I know is that BF4 will work on both current gen and next gen consoles. Difference aside from gfx quality is the fact that next gen consoles will be able to support 64 player servers from what I gather. That is likely due to the increased processing and gpu power of the next gen.

Do you guys think, with that being said, that the fact it will be available on current gen consoles is holding back BF4?

It sounds to me like the current gen versions are backported from the next gen versions. PS4 is probably the lead platform.

From my point of view, the console versions of everything hold back the PC versions of everything. BF3 suffered on the PC because it was obviously designed for consoles. You could tell the difference between tight, closed original maps and the larger, open maps from the Return to Karkand DLC.

What I'm really hoping for here is that BF4 is significantly different than BF3 in terms of hit detection and net code. BF3 has made me rage quit more than a few times because of its bizarre hit detection.

I've raged in BF3 as well. Hit detection is fine when all is good on a server, and I really can't complain about the detection mechanism itself, nor the bullet physics. However, sometimes it seems you can hit a guy with half a clip and he turns around and kills you with one head shot. That is why I HAVE to play on hardcore servers only. Hate the 3D spotting, and I hate the 3/4-full clip and plus sometimes to kill a dude. I've heard whoever has the best internet connection wins in BF3, and that IMO makes the net code more important to the the hit detection.

We'll find out if BF4 fixes that, because it's up for preorder on Origin. An extra $10 gets you access to the beta.

    Well, we'll see is right.

For all the criticism I give the COD franchise for just rehashing the same game year after year, EA has just put BF in that category imo. The reveal video shows the same gun models, same vehicles and models, and has the same sounds. People online are already calling it BF3.5, or BF recyclefield4, etc. They have a point. My point is, with the purchase of BF3 and then Premium adding up to $100 or so, I got kind of pissed when a month or two later the entire package of BF3+Premium can be purchased for $60. With that being said, I am kind of turned off of BF4, and may take the wait and see approach before I jump the gun, where normally I'd be all over this. I am disappointed really, that EA is making DICE do this shhh. Oh well.

EA bought DICE. So DICE is doing it to DICE.

I'm also in the "wait and see" group. Annual updates don't bother me as long as the new game is better than the previous game--reference Assassin's Creed. But this is EA, the home of Madden. So I don't think that's going to happen.

I think there's a bigger problem, namely that multiplayer is stagnating. You can only get so much Sergeant Dudebro Shooter 35 before it's time for something new. If BF4 can do something new, then who cares if they're using BF3 assets to do it?

Not that I think this will be anything new.

Time will tell. That reveal showed a pretty exciting campaign though. I still haven't played the SP campaign for Bad Company 2 or BF3 yet, so I really don't care about that. Hopefully MP is refined and closer to BF2. I want a commander mode, voip, larger maps with spaced out objectives, more members per squad, and more classes. I hate that assault is medic, support is specialist, etc.

More classes would be very welcome, along with the ability to blur the lines. Why not a true support class that can drop health/ammo boxes and mines but can only use light PDWs? Or a real medic class with enhanced abilities?

Fixing the classes would go a long way, you're right.

Also, DICE described the trailer as realistic. Uh... No, it is not realistic for the driver of a vehicle to hang out the side and take down an attack helicopter with a one-handed grenade launcher in one hit.

    LOL.

Nor is it realistic that an enemy helo has such bad aim that they couldn't hit a barn. Nor is it realistic that an enemy helo chases an enemy down a road at an altitude of 30 feet about the ground. Nor is it realistic that.....ahhh....never mind.

The BF4 beta comes out in the fall. BF4 itself is a 2014 game.

I see you aren't. Logged into BF3 yesterday and saw a BF4 tab on my dashboard so I clicked it out of curiosity. It showed I had 1 friend that pre-ordered. Desides01. :)

There should be a multiplayer gameplay reveal today from E3. Looking forward to that. The reason I am not pre-ordering is because I can pirate the beta if I really want it, and I don't care about the China expansion because I will get Premium when it goes on sale. Again, probably getting pissed when 3 months later BF4 + Premium will be $60, but oh well.

Anyway, keep an eye out for it.

I am tempted man. LOL. We will see what E3 brings. If I get a 780 I may have to pre order BF4 out of principal to test it out in the beta.

    Well, here it is;

    Good things I noticed;
    1. 5 man squads.
    2. Commander.
    3. Micro Destruction (tank falling through the street was very nice).
    4. Tablet/Smart Phone commander screen.
    5. SeeDoos are back - reminiscent of BF2:SP
    6. Map layout is big, with multiple elevations. below ground, water, high rise. nice touch.
    7. End game high rise collapsing. Has to be end game. Or ppl will just destruct the high rise beginning of each map and there is a flag on top of the high rise. Not sure.
    8. Mini map much cleaner and easier to read.
    9. VOIP? Or was it over the Xbox service? For PC gamers, I hope there is voip. This trailer would suggest so.

Not so good things I noticed:
    1. Same class setup. Look at the on screen squad. Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer
    2. Same identical textures, sounds, and building models. Not to say that this isn't to be expected though

    Others;
    1. Above the squad listing on the left side of the screen is a green progress bar that appears to increase and fill up as a squad completes objectives. This bar is broken up into 4 sections with icons. The icons are similar to BF3's existing squad perks like ammo, sprint, suppression, etc. Maybe it is just listing what available squad perks are chosen by squadmates and the bar progression means something else, like maybe the ability to call in a strike request to commander. Or, as the bar progresses, you gain access to the squad perks as the match plays out. Can't really decipher this one.

So it turns out that environment destruction is pretty limited. It's not dynamic, it can only occur at certain points by meeting certain objectives. That's pretty disappointing. And the skyscraper collapsing in the E3 video can happen at any point in the map if you blow up its support; you can do it to deny the enemy the objective if they capture it. I like the idea of forcing teams to defend areas near objectives rather than just camp the objectives, but I'm not sure how this will play out.

Also, there are still only four classes, and they've been rebalanced rather than redistributed. Engineers now use PDWs instead of carbines, for instance. Not sure why; Engineers were already pretty well balanced. Assaults need to have less necromancy, recons need to contribute more to the front lines than just spotting and bad sniping, etc.

Levelcap on Youtube has a lot of pretty good BF4 videos, since he was at E3.

Levelcap is a great channel to follow.

For all of your BF4 information though, just go to bf4blog.com

They already have like 78 leaked battlelog screenshots of bf4, and is really a great one stop source for anything new relating to bf4.

I am back into BF3 now, and playing again - hit me up Tone_E_10 if you wanna play. I play 64 player conquest, hardcore only though. That's why I didn't join you last few times I saw you online Desides. Saw you in some TDMs, I assume trying to finish some assignments. That is where I go for specific gun assignments that require x amount of kills.

I haven't played BF3 in a few weeks because of work. I also want to get away from the game a little bit before BF4 comes out, just to help build up the anticipation.

I originally played TDM a lot for assignments, but after I finished most of the ones I seem to have a chance at, I kept playing TDM to shoot at the same six people who annoyed the hell out of me while working on those assignments.

Never seen Badger vids. Will check out his channel.

Considering the game wont be out until 2014, there is a lot of time to pull yourself away from BF3.

I just updated Arma3 to the Beta and should really be checking that out - haven't touched it yet.

    Nice. I like it.

I can't seem to get into any other game at the moment aside from BF3 and Arma3. I haven't touched Remember Me, Last Light, Dishonored, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, Crysis 3, AC (any of them), Mass Effect (any of them), The Witcher (any of them) lol.

So BF4 is something I am anticipating. :)

I like the iPad and iPhone integration. This is the way in which console games will avoid being consumed by the App Store. That said, games aren't so important that I want to get a notification when someone surpasses what is basically my high score. Even I'm not that big a nerd.

Here are some new trailers. A new MP gameplay with a new map and a Premium trailer as well. Game looks very impressive.

Here is the premium one, nothing spectacular in this trailer, but it does explain each expansion; 4 newly designed BF3 favorites, sea battle in second, focus on urban combat in third, and no info on final expansion just yet.

The new trailer kind of reminds me of this map from BF2, except with a bunch more sea options and more islands instead of one big land mass. Anyone remember it?

Just found another one, all about Levolution. Dice's attempt to make adaptable and changing environments. We all know you can knock down a sky scraper, but now you can, as per the trailer below; lift posts to stop vehicle entry, drop gates in buildings to stop infantry advances, take out power in buildings and then go into NV or IRNV scopes to take people out, knock out a dam to flood a street (what?)....very impressive...again. You have to appreciate DICE's efforts to bring something new to the genre. They are putting all kinds of work into BF4.

    BF4 beta preload is active.

I know most people here are going to be playing GTA Online, but I'm going to skip in favor of the BF4 beta. I suspect I won't really get into GTA Online until it comes to the PC.

I've played a few rounds, but work has been pretty bad this week so I haven't played as much as I wanted.

There are definitely some problems that remind you that this is a beta, and there are some changes I'm not too wild about (ribbons aren't named, movement speed is too slow), but the netcode and gunplay is better, and I no longer feel that I'm at a disadvantage because someone with a different ping is going to shoot me after I've already made it to cover around a corner.

Though the Brazilian players are still everywhere with their 250 pings.

    You should.

I played half a round last night. It definitely is a beta. First thing I had to do is change my FOV to 100, but Im going to put that down to 90. Nice to have a slider for it though. I can't really form an opinion of it now, other than it will look much better at release like BF3 vs BF3 Beta. Don't bother benchmarking anything yet lol.

The guns feel more realistic to me. The thing that popped right away is the sound - it is amazing. Another thing I like is the map. Even though it is a 64 player, there aren't the usual bottlenecks you get with other maps. It also combines pretty much every expansion from BF3 into one map, offering CQ, vehicle action, urban atmosphere. I like it. Interesting to see some other maps.

Worried about the expansion that brings back fav. BF3 maps though. One is Caspian for sure, think I saw that in a trailer. Others I'd imagine are Metro, Noshar Canals, and hopefully Firestorm being one of my favorites. I would rather see some more BF2 maps instead though, like Warlord from Special Forces, Ghost Town also from Special Forces. If Seine Crossing is in BF4, I will boycott all future releases of BF. Probably not, but whatever, I hate that map.

Anyway, going to put more time into BF4 Beta over the weekend I'd imagine.
