http://m.guardiannews.com/world/2013/feb/11/pope-benedict-xvi-resigns-age Will have a first black pope. Thoughts?
Good riddance to that POS. Find the most vocal clergyman against the molestation cover ups and make him Pope. It would be a huge step to signaling the church is not only repentant but intent on change.
Lol it would be if this were the reason for his resignation. Fact of the matter is he is simply getting too old to cover up or defend the molestation.
You know times are tough when the Pope lays himself off Could we see a "temp" Pope like from Kelly Services or something?
Apparently one of the doves the pope released was attacked by a seagull. Que the mouth breathing dip****s who think this is a sign or omen of the end times. Or some bull**** like that.
and the omens just continue the Ural region of Russia, where a meteorite exploded Fireballs reported in skies above Cuba and California Hundreds of vultures have been swarming a neighborhood in North Carolina this week, causing quite a bit of uneasiness among its residents. - It's now official that there will be a new logo next season. - New logo is a mix of the retro logo with a modern feel. - Navy will still be part of the logo. - A few Dolphins legends saw it and loved it. http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?73211-Miami-Dolphins-New-Logo-Thread
Actually it is the reason. It will all be revealed shortly I believe. He resigned before he was forced to do so. An investigative report will be released showing that he asked for all of the molestation files to be brought to him. Then, he simply moved the accused/guilty priests around and did not punish them release them from the church. That IMO, when proven, if proven, will make him just as guilty. I wish I had a link but my brother told me about it, and I will take his word. It may be from the Young Turks youtube channel, he listens to them a lot. Great channel by the way.
that wouldnt cause him to resign. thats how the church has been dealing with the problem for 40 years. Its the Penn State solution
Not at all, I have issues a plenty with the Roman Church, however that is unsubstantiated at best, black propaganda at worst.
More like 50 years, and the various "Brotherhoods" of monks are even worse. From my pov, it's almost a conspiracy theory. What I mean by this is a huge wave of child molesters populated the priesthood at the same time, and the organization itself deals in sin/confession/repentence/absolution made the institution itself screwed in trying to rid themselves of them. Now don't think for a moment I have sympathy for them, if as an institution they deal in morality they should have shown leadership by removing them pro nunc tunc
Well, imo a lot of what has marked the RC in the later 20th/21st centuries is a sort of insular approach. From the outside, "we" may think this is a huge problem, from the inside I'd think they are really worried about how Europe has abandoned them. For reasons both good and bad imo. If I were a betting man, the next pontiff will be an Italian, just the way they do things.
i agree but they are caught up in trying to preserve the institution much like Penn State. Shuffle people around, keep silent and hope it goes away. Anyway, I think the reason he resigned is he is dying and can't keep up with the beauracratic demands. Apparently the biggest crisis is one of management as his supposed flaw is he is unable to run the Vatican effectively and hasnt since he started. He is a cerebral pope without the personality of his predecessor or the management ability. His writings are supposed to be some of the greatest religious writings ever done however. His work "Jesus of Nazareth" is supposedly a phenomenal piece of work done from the perspective of a believer instead of a pope
PSU and the Vatican were tasked with completely different things, one was to provide education the other to provide guidance, counseling and forgiveness etc PSU could have tossed the whole lot of them out at any time, the RC on the other hand, had a conflict between, very ancient rules about defrocking a priest, and a forgiveness/absolution function. When I say conspiracy theory is virtually any institution has malfactors, the RC had such a wave of them, well over 200 iirc it seems odd that so many would appear all in one epoch.
well one of the Italian prospects is one that is known for his strong anti homosexual stances. If they choose him I think you will see this situation addressed once and for all. It will be a complete purge. also the guy from ghana
We'll see, the thing people should realize is it is quite difficult to defrock a priest, as in it is a long process. For heresy it can take 4 yrs or longer for example. The situation inside the RC that does fascinate me is found in the SSPX's really hardcore, traditional, Catholic stance. Think abandoning the Latin Mass is seen as unthinkable, personal prelates etc 4 bishops were excummicato'd for some of those stances, they were re-instated, but there is a interesting sort of struggle going on inside the RC.
That would not fix the problem at all, because there is as much difference between homosexuality and pedophilia as there is between heterosexuality and pedophilia.
I find it more disturbing that they would judge based on the homosexual undertone to the acts rather than the obvious pedophile overtone. So essentially the message becomes "don't rape little boys because that's gay"
One would think, but they are real under dogs in all of this as Church dogma is aligned towards Vatican II, the SSPXer's are mostly opposed to the changes Vatican II ushered in meaning the default position is opposed to their pov. My own take on it is the personal prelatures and latin masses etc are a bridge to traditional RC practices, I see no harm in allowing those to continue but having the more modern mass and sacraments as well. How the RC works is rather odd to me, suspect they have grown to bloated and slow as happens to any large Institution.
It was not the homosexual nature of the acts, actually that was sort of an afterthought to all of this. Here is how the thinking went: -Sex is only for procreation -Sex can only be between a man and woman -Thus sex with small boys is not actually "sex" as it fills neither prong of that thinking.
actually the movement is going away from vatican 2 and towards a more conservatiuve, traditional approach but as you say they move like a glacier. the institution is cumbersome and i think has lost faith in itself and therefore unsure of its direction
One of their problems revolves around being European based, but third and fourth world countries are where the RC is actually growing, such a internal conflict should come as no surprise. And the Saintly Society of Pious the X really does not much care for Vatican II..at all, yet in Europe and the US and Canada and Australia, this is a growing movement (as is the norm with religions, a longing for some long bye gone time has motivated many a believer). However, being anchored in Europe, I would not expect to see a non Euro ascend quite yet, not sure the Cardinals can see the benefit in so doing. Eh, all of this is one of the reasons why I'm a Christian, but do not bother with organized religion per se.
i think they go back to an italian pope. i too find organized religion somewhat disappointing though there was something interesting about Pope John Paul II at least early on in his papacy. his work with reagan and thatcher against the communists was truly special. most of eastern europe freed from communist rule without a single shot fired. it was a nice reminder of what the church could accomplish
Even more interesting when one realizes East of Poland is mostly Orthodox. As for organized religion, I do not mind it per se, just think the sameness is both comforting and disturbing at the same time. Toss in interpersonal politics and just not my cup o' tea. Would rather walk under the stars and shining moon so to speak
Just the other day my mother was telling me about a guy that has named all the Pope's before they became the Pope for several years. According to his list, there is only one more Pope. I forget the guys name, but i thought that was interesting.
i think it's peter the roman your mom is referring to. he's supposed to be the last pope according to some

The Pope is resigning because he lacks the strength to do the job. In other words, an altar boy fought him off.
It will be ironic if a black Pope is elected in that he will be surrounded by men in white robes with pointy hats swinging crosses in front of him.
