This isn't surprising at all. Ireland will have one more season to get us passed mediocre. If we don't have a winning season in 2013 then he'll be gone.

It will depress the hell out of me but won't surprise me. I think firing Ireland will be really hard for Stephen Ross. I think in general, it's much harder for an owner to fire the general manager. Coaches are easier because the owner just makes the general manager do it. Ross doesn't strike me as an extrovert. He's awkward in front of the camera. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing he might not be comfortable with face to face confrontation, despite being a very successful businessman.

I also believe at this point Ireland has a Wormtongue / Svengali type stranglehold over Stephen Ross. Ross is in over his head as an NFL owner and Ireland is his crutch. Without him he has no bearing. Until Ireland becomes embarrassingly bad, to the point of Matt Millen us Dolphins fans are unfortunately probably stuck with him. I'll keep hoping though...

I think the equally (or more) plausible narrative is that Stephen Ross consults with Carl Peterson, who has advised Ross to retain Jeff Ireland, and give him the chance to win with a coaching staff and a QB who weren't picked by Bill Parcells.

Either way, we might as well stop talking about it.

This is a huge reach man. Ross is a smart guy, and he understands the fans are unhappy. Not to mention, Carl Peterson by his side helps him a lot. If Ross wants Ireland gone then he'll be gone.

As my stance has been forever on this topic, Ireland will get one more chance here.

Well I guess that's the 300 page debate that I won't get into, because it's just a waste of time.

The Dolphins went into this season starting a rookie QB with limited experience in college. It's hard to expect a real successful season. Next year will be a whole different story though. That's why I think 2013 is do or die for Ireland.

I understand that but there's a lot of losing on that man's record. He's something like 10 games under .500 since 2010.

I don't disagree, but it's not like we've been a terrible team. We're usually always competitive. But still, it's all about winning. I don't have a problem giving him another shot. Either we win or he'll be gone. Kind of a win-win.

Don't think one becomes a billionaire by being a sensitive Nancy. Just sayin.
He'd probably slit a throat if it meant protecting his business.

Wouldn't it be easier on the team & success to hope our 2013 offseason and on is impressively good? .... you know, so there's no potential for another complete rebuild and all.

IMO, this is Irelands offseason to shine.

And a lot depends on how we finish the season, if we go 2-2, then I'm fine with it especially with a Rook Qb

    We go 5-11..uhmm..no.

What does that mean. Why are you couching it in metaphor. Will you get in trouble with your parents if they find out you're "on the line" and "catting about with loose women" again? Is that why you are saying it this way, wink-wink-nudge-nudge?

Or do you literally mean that fapping requires a trip alone to a store, for you.

    Help.

Olifaye is also a FA this offseason, if he has his health straightened out would love to give him a shot at RG.

Ireland though, man, he just defaults to "caution" whenever he can with high picks.

    Suspect he out things things.

At 5-7 and the team's last hopes for playoffs only having just gone out the window this week, I don't expect Ross to have made any decisions yet regarding Jeff Ireland. However, Armando's source made it clear that this could change if the Dolphins finish the rest of the season poorly. With games upcoming against the 49ers (favored by 10.5 points) and the Patriots in Week 17...I think the season is indeed going to end poorly. Either 6-10 or maybe even 5-11. I think if the Dolphins take a blowout loss to the 49ers this week and then lose to Chad Henne and the Jaguars the following week...Armando may want to check with his source again.

The Dolphins could still go 7-9 and if they do then Ireland's job is likely saved. I once thought 6-10 would for sure get the man fired but now I'm not sure of that anymore.

However, 5-11 and I do believe he's gone.

Is that a possibility? I think so.

I think most people (rightly) assume the Dolphins are going to lose this weekend. It would seem kind of a wildcard with Colin Kaepernick at QB but then, most people think that even if he flubs it, Miami's offense can't score on the 49ers defense.

The next week they play the Jaguars and this is going to be a special game because it's Chad Henne's return to Sun Life Stadium. His motivation is going to be pretty damned high. And when you boil it down, he's actually playing well throwing the football to Cecil Shorts, Justin Blackmon and Marcedes Lewis. The thing that most intrigues me about this matchup though is the acquisition of Jason Babin. This should still be a win for the Dolphins, though I don't imagine the Dolphins favored by much. I imagined a win by a relatively small margin. Might boil down to a play or two. However with Jason Babin now there and getting to go against Nate Garner at right tackle, that play or two that could be the margin in this game could very well go the other way now. And that's if we don't take more injuries against the 49ers. It seemed to me that when Chad Henne was especially fired up about something, he played better in Miami. He's going to be fired up for this one.

Then we have the Bills and the problem is that we're on the road. The Bills have won 2 of their last 3 and I don't have any illusions about them beating the Seahawks, but they can certainly beat the Rams so they could be on a 3 of 5 streak with a 6-8 record looking to close out the final two games against beatable opponents in the Dolphins and Jets, to finish 8-8. Up in the cold of Buffalo, that could easily be a loss for us. And again I point to Nate Garner at right tackle having to go primarily up against Mario Williams. This is a game that even if we win is probably going to come down to a handful of plays. With Garner in the game against Mario, the handful of plays could go in the other direction.

Don't expect any quarter from the Patriots in Week 17. They locked up #1 seed prior to Week 17 in 2010 and they still marched Tom Brady and the cast (except Wes Welker) out there for three quarters until they were up 31-0 on us. In 2011 there was a mathematical chance they could've lost #1 seed if they lost to the Bills while the Ravens also lost to the Bengals and the Steelers beat the Browns. The Patriots still would've had a bye week regardless. The Bills jumped out to a 21-0 lead giving the Patriots every excuse to fold up the tents and accept the possibility that they have #2 instead of #1 seeding, rest their starters and prevent injuries. What did they do? Kept everyone out there. Even after they went ahead 35-21 with 11 minutes to go in the game, Tom Brady was right back out there on the next drive, dropping back to pass on 9 of their 14 plays of the next drive. Only up 49-21 with 1:30 left to play did the Patriots offense march out there without Brady.
