So I been thinking about this guy for some time now. I saw him play in several games and was always impressed by his play- illusive and smart with the ball. He actually signed a 6 yr -60 million dollar deal with the Jags at one time so he must have impressed some people. He had a QB rating in the first yr of his new contract of 102.2 (2007). This is when the Jags seemed to have things put together. Despite massive injuries to their starting offensive line, and slow deterioration over the next 3 yrs Garrard still put up a average QB rating of 89.5. This guy is a very good veteran.

    So now the question!

What if he is off the chart good?

Personally I think this is a very good possibility. I like David Garrard and I think he is a great addition to this team. What do you guys think?

If David Gerrard is off the charts good, then my smile will be off the charts wide.

Does he create QB controversy should he post some big numbers?

I would love to see Tanny sit for a yr or two then turn him loose.

The year off to repair his herniated disc, has him fresh and ready to play. I am excited!!

We are stacked at QB. I can't remember a time since Maybe Marino and Mitchell that we have been this stacked.

Gerrard's 35 years old. If the plan is to let RT17 sit and develop, I don't see where the QB controversy is.

His performance could make Moore trade bait. I could see the Vikings potentially jumping on that.

The thing for me is I know Garrard can play. Seen it with my own 2 eyes. Moore, I like a lot but I am still not convinced he can get it done for a whole season. It is very possible the next 2 or 3 years are in Garrard's hands unless 17 develops quicker then they are currently reporting.

True, very true. Or there is always the trade to New England scenario and he becomes the next Dan Marino and New England trades him to Buffalo for 41 first round draft picks:shifty:

If the Dolphins have the problem of a QB being "off the chart good" then in fact we have no problem at all.

I personally think Garrard wins the starting job this year then Tannehill will be the starter in 2013. I think Matt Moore will be the #2 guy and won't be re-signed in 2013. Tannehill will show flashes in camp but needs to spend his rookie year learning IMO.

This was a very under-rated signing, been saying that since the day it happened. A lot of fans were just so butt-hurt about the Manning/Flynn fiasco that they saw Garrard as another "settle for less" move.

What if he is off the chart good ? Well than enjoy it, for a year. He'll most likely sign elsewhere next year in hopes of starting.

I have to disagree off with your odds of him being "off the charts good". Very good chance of that? I don't see it. Good chance he's better than most of us fans expected? That I would be willing to place good odds on.

There was a reason the Jags had him inked to a big contract at one point in time, this is true. There is also a reason they let him walk and cut him days before the 2011 season began. The upside is limited, at least it was in their opinion and the opinion of many others around the league. So I'd temper your "off the charts" expectations.

That being said, you raise a good point. I really think Garrard has a chance to play the Chad Pennington role of 2008 if he can come in and put a solid season together with a turnover ratio on the right side of 1, 25+ TDs and 3500 + yards passing. It's not out of the realm of possibility. I've warmed up to the signing since we now know Garrard wasn't Ireland's final answer to the position.

I could definitely see Moore traded at the trade deadline. I doubt the Vikes would be interested. They like Ponder and Webb.

I agree. I wonder who the #2 QB will be next year. Do we draft another QB or sign an aging vet?

Oh, cmon now... If Garrard is 'off the charts good' then most other teams will figure out that MMoore simply didn't have it to begin with and his trade value will not be that great. If he's still unproven here, because Garrard and/or Tanny outplay him in TC, then what is the incentive for other teams to want to hump our legs in trade for him ??

And at this point...Marino would have outplayed all three of our QBs hands down by himself without Mitchell or any other QB. We have no evidence that Garrard is going to be the same guy he was 3 or 5 yrs ago. MMoore still has only had 2 very good half seasons for two different teams and Tanny is still a rookie with only 19 starts at QB in college learning the pro game. Our QB situation is tenuous at best. We simply don't know what we have.

And what exactly did Garrard do for the Jags ?? They still couldn't beat the Colts even in his one really good year there and even that year had somewhat of an asterisk because he only played in 12 games and that OL only let him be sacked 21 times. The other 3 years of starting were only adequate...double digit INTs. The one year he had the 102.2 rating, he had a similar year to what MMoore had for us last year...although Moore's rating was only 88, he also had twice as many sacks as Garrard did in his really good year at Jax....

I don't see much difference between these two statistically except that Garrard has had more opportunities. We are still on a a wait and see mode at the QB position. Let's not count our chickens before the eggs hatch...

Garrard isn't going to be "off the charts good", but if he plays to the level he did in his last season then he'll be "better than any QB Miami has had in many a year" good. The guy is already used to playing without decent WRs (Ochocinco is far and away the best receiver he's had to work with since Jimmy Smith retired in 2005, and even Bess is a huge step up), his talent set is ideal for the WCO, and he's had a year of recuperation time. Time will tell, but I think we got a steal of a free agent pick-up.

I think Garrard is pretty comparable to the Pennington acquisition. He's a pretty good quarterback, and he's about all you can ask for in a bridge-type player.
