They're moving in the right direction but I don't think they're there yet. The extra wild card will help but right now they're sitting behind the Giants, Mets, and Braves in the wild card standings. I don't think they're better than any of those teams. [or the Nationals or Dodgers if they are overtaken in their respective divisions] It will be tough for them to outlast the Reds and take the central as well.

 

Never know in the Division they play in...

Imagine if Pitt won the Central and Washington won the East....??

You're acting as if the Pirates are on the Rangers territory. It's not that far fetched to think you won't make the playoffs. I don't expect them to.

On this date last year the Pirates were 1.5 games out of 1st place and we all know what happened the rest of the season. Let's give this thread some space and revisit things at the beginning of September.

 

I honestly think that Wahsington is coming out of the NL in October.....thats how poor the NL is right now...

 

Or a testament as to how well Washington has been playing. That team doesn't get enough credit.

 

This. Washington has a pretty good team, especially the SPing.

 

I am actually rooting for them or Pitt, who have legit shots imo.....and I especially like Washington cuz they are fun to watch....but again if these 2 teams have legit shots, it tells you the state of that League, it isnt a knock on them but the league, while they are both headed in the right direction, they are still not right there yet...if they were in the AL, would they be challenging? Washington maybe, not Pitt tho...lets be realistic here for a minute...

God knows I'd be doing back flips if the Dolphins were a game out of first halfway through the season, and we haven't been a quarter as incompetent as the Pirates have been.

Cash, Pitt needs to take advantage of this big time coming out of the shoot.....

 

Every year is a new year.....the team and FO have been making better and better decisions and moves, and frankly, its NL team so chances are better based on what they put together as it can accomplish the goal of playoffs because of weaker NL depth.

Wouldnt shock me as its shaping up with the improved rotation, solid D, and just enough offense. Yup, Pitt has a soft schedule following the All-Star break for those first few series.

That 2nd WC spot helps them even if they dont pull off the central. The west is so weak aside from the LAD and SF battle.
