Default Last Time Dolphins' Played In An NFL Classic?

Debated this one over an hour the other night. A few of my buddies voted for the classic MNF track meet versus the Jets back in October 2000, but I say overtime defeats don't count. My vote is for the all-time Marino faux spike victory against those same Jets back in Week 13, 1994 season (November 27).

As an aside, I say that the 1994 season also holds the Dolphins' last great individual performance; Marino passing for 473 yards and five tosses against New England on September 4.

    Cheers.

I don't agree that a classic has to result in a win for us. It just has to be a game that has a great ending or a compelling story. I was at that playoff loss against SD (82, I believe) and it was a great memory for me. As for the latest one, it could be argued that the overtime loss to Denver (and Tebow) last year was a classic (although certainly not a great memory for me). IMO it wasn't a great game, but it had a compelling story and a great ending. And if the Tebow legend continues to grow that game will become more of a classic in retrospect. I'd say that the "wildcat" game against NE (2008) was a classic.

The debut of the Wildcat was a classic NFL game for multiple reasons.

The Broncos game in 2002 comes to mind, where Jay Fiedler got hurt.

The Jets game on MNF in 2009 was a classic IMO.

All the talk in the offseason building it up. The shots between Crowder and Rex. The dismissal of the wildcat by Rex. And it was a great game, great 4th quarter, which we won on the final play. With the wildcat. It was Henne's best game as a Dolphin.

And it was so physical that the national types were still talking about it on Friday.

Epic game. Too bad it was so early in the season.

    In Madden the other night....
The exception to the general rule on closers, Ozzie Guillen admitted, is Mariano Rivera. "Rivera," Ozzie said of his longtime nemesis from the American League, "is from another planet."

Bill Parcells squatted over our fair city, spread his ample ass cheeks wide, and produced as foul a stench as can be produced, as his colon pushed out a front office fece. It's name is IRISH.--Section 126

Pads were popping like crazy that night. I remember one play where Ricky Williams took a stretch play off strong side and (I think it was Al Wilson) decleated Ricky with a crushing blow up around the head area.

That was also Jason Taylor's best career game. He only had one sack, but he was all over Griese and forced that Surtain pick six as well in another interception in the game.

Another game not mentioned is 2005 vs. Buffalo. Both teams sucked, but the 20 point comeback in the fourth quarter, Chambers long reception and then touchdown catch on 4th down was pretty epic. 15 catches, 238 yards and the winning score. Best day for a Dolphin receiver ever.

What makes a game a NFL Classic?

I think that is the important question.

With my definition I would put the Dallas/Miami Thanksgiving game last season as the last time Miami played in a NFL Classic. That was a great game from a fan standpoint. I had a lot of people in Seattle who know me tell me that was a very entertaining game.

The San Diego '82 playoff game at the Orange Bowl is the Duesenberg Model J of Dolphins classics. Pennington beating Favre for the division championship is a modern classic; maybe a '63 Stingray split window coupe.
