I guess that answers the question of what Philbin really thinks of Flynn, in a roundabout way.

Or it is counter posturing by the FO after the fallout. I'm just conspiring over here...that is all.

Either way, I will reserve judgment until after the draft. Even still, I am def. not opposed to going into the season with Moore and Garrard. Would be nice to be developing Tannehill in the background though.

What's even more interesting is that Seattle paid him double that. I mean he got Alex Smith money...I don't know if I'd go that far with Flynn....or Smith for that matter...

It you everything you wanted to know about how the regime felt about Flynn... We'll have to wait and see how things turn out for Seattle before we beat our chests...but it'll be interesting to watch...

And what's even more interesting is that those seem to be the only 2 offers he got.

If he looked impressive, you'd think there would of been at least a few other teams interested.

Time will be the true judge here. Either Ireland's going to look like an astute judge of Flynn's talent level or he's going to look like an idiot.

let's hope the fanbase waits at least half a season before evaluating the decision. I can just see Flynn playing well in game 1 and this board imploding

Hell, with some here it'll happen in a preseason game while Seattle's 1st string offense is on the field playing against another team's 3rd string defense. Flynn will go 5 for 6 with a TD pass on his first drive and the CLB will come out guns-O-blazing calling for Ireland's head.

    the poor house
i would bet if i had something to bet with that Matt flynn will throw more touchdown passes then both Moore and Girard both combine. i think its Ireland he seems to be a jerk and he is the cancer of the team how is it we have no cap space and no talent on offense yet the florida media is talking about drafting mostly defense .

There's always the chance that Flynn goes on to be great. It happened with Brady, so it can happen with anyone, right.

What's most important about the Flynn situation IMO is that the NFL didn't perceive him as a franchise caliber QB, and more importantly that Ireland & Ross didn't overvalue, over pursue, or over pay for him out of desperation like some teams might have.

Perhaps we offered $4 million as a number we knew he wouldn't accept.
Why would we bring Flynn in and do this?
Answer: To convolute our QB hand as to not give away our true intentions from day 1 (prior to Manning entering the mix), which I still believe is Tannehill.
Why is it important to convolute our hand this year?
Answer: It's due to all NFL eyes being on us because we need a QB, and our coaching staff is the only one with direct working knowledge of 2 of the more desired, young, available prospects. IMO it'd be naive to think other teams needing a QB weren't trying gauge our interest in Flynn and Tannehill to help benefit their own QB search.

I guess the FO didn't read this forum so they could have known the true value of Matt Flynn. ;)

Some of us said from the get go that he is no better than Matt Moore. I'd say the FO would agree with that.

Well, if true I think it just further illustrates this FO not willing to take any chances. I'm not suggesting they should've offered more, or that Flynn was even worth more. Just that it seems to be this FO's MO is to make moves in a very conservative manner. And, while I can (I think) accept that on face value, I think there comes a time when you have to take some chances. No risk, no reward as they like to say.

Although, I think that was more a case of overlooking the obvious red flags, and less about taking a chance.

    Just sayin'.

There are some chances worth taking like "Hey lets go swim in the neighbors pool" and some not worth taking like "Hey that girl is hot, but shes been passed all around town, Im going in without protection!"

Not sure which type of chance Flynn is closer to.

    More likely Imo,
After watchin tape of Moore, and matching up what he thought of Flynn, he and Ireland came up with a cap number on his worth relative to what we had, and made the offer under the condition that there will be a competition, thats why they brought him in in the first place..

I'm very alrite with Moore. I really wasn't sold on Flynn. Sure, great coupla games, but I still believe he's a system QB. I seriously don't think he's gonna have even 2 game TOTAL stats that he had in one of the crazy, Madden-type stats he put up.

Way too many players shoot their proverbial load early and expect big cash based on minimal type performances. The list is long and wide.

If I am wrong, I will graciously eat crow for this comment.

He was a 7th round pick and has 2 games of NFL experience. $4 mil seems high.

Eight million a year is way too much for Flynn, I don't have a problem with their decision to offer him that. If they're not even sure he can beat Matt Moore for the job why would they pay him over twice as much? If you want to gamble on a QB then gamble on one in the draft, it's cheaper.

Yea, because Philbin and Sherman surely couldn't repeat the same success in Miami that they did in Green Bay with Favre and Rodgers.

Kind've like Tarvaris Jackson you mean?
Charlie Whitehurst? (Didn't they offer him a RIDICULOUS offer????)

This is not surprising. While some fans are calling for coaches heads, others realize this is a very very good thing for us.

I mean, perhaps some fans, and ARM-AND-OH know Matt Flynn better than Philbin...or then again.........
