While it's not official just yet, RUMORS are Flynn should be signing tonight. That's pretty good news.
Some folks on here don't like it, but think about this....
    Who was...
    Brett Favre in Atlanta
    Steve Young in Tampa Bay
Kurt Warner in St. Louis (took a injury to Trent Green for anybody to know)

Sure we might be getting a Cassell or Kolb, but we won't know until we try. A LOT of people on here last year wanted Vince Young or T. Jackson, how those signings turn out?

I for one hope this happens!

If he does it will be because Philbin likes him. I'll trust Philbin on is one. If Flynn doesnt come here it will be because Philbin doesn't like him. I'll also trust him on that one.

Come on? Would you of said that 10 months ago? what has he proven he can be a play action game manager with one of the best security blanket tight ends in the league to go along with the best defense.

Dudes, we knew this was best case scenario coming in right? That Philbin implied Flynn and a familiar offense. Thank God we were at least capable enough to get Flynn. Now root for those mofos. They're the only shot we have...

From what I've seen of Smith I'll pass. Multiple coaches & OC's it doesn't matter. If they went thta route they could have just kept Henne. While we've only seen 2 games of Flynn I'll trust Philbin as he should know what he has to work with.

I see Alex Smith going back to suckin' wind absent Jim Harbaugh. We know Philbin can work with Flynn. Get it done. But please, let's quit jinxing ourselves with threads like this till it's official, no offense to the OP.

Don't get why ppl slag Alex Smith. He's got thrown to the wolves and proved a lot of ppl wrong. He may not be a Brees but the 49ers have shown he's serviceable. It's pretty laughable to see smack talk about another teams QB when he's that close to taking them to a Superbowl. We shouldn't be allowed to even venture into smack talk with our QB record the last 12yrs.

We have a whole lot more film on Smith then we do on Flynn.

Smith in a stable environment could be a very good QB

49s think so highly of Alex Smith's potential, they're about to sign Manning.

It's called improvement and giving yourself a chance at getting to the Superbowl. Something we know jack about. Especially at QB.

What about the game before that where he led 2 more potential GAME WINNING playoff drives than we've had in a DECADE in less than 3 minutes?

Come back to me when our QB flunks in an Championship game. Seriously. Oh wait....let's dust off the history books to see when that last happened. In the mean time let's have a pop at other teams who actually get to Championship games. Unreal.

    need I say more

If it's about family Manning signs with Tennessee

If its about rings and his legacy its the 49ers

may also just be a timing thing. Maybe Harbaugh thinks Smith needs more time to develop then time he has. The time for the superbowl in now not in 2 or 3 more yrs. These windows are small as evidenced by every single team that has ever won the superbowl, with the exception of the Buffalo Bills who went 4 times in a row but could never get over the hump.

We, because we are rebuilding, have time to continue to develop him with a consistent coach and offensive coordinator.

Manning put them in the superbowl next year!!!!!

Alex Smith is 27 years old, and he has played. At this point, the only development he can potentially get, will have to come from playing experience. Sitting behind Manning until he is 30 will not make him any better than he already is.
