With the 40th pick the Carolina Panthers are proud to select...

    Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan St!!

Worthy was a guy we had our eye on way back in rd 1. We opted to pass on a DT at the time because of the number of players we liked at the position, and because of how highly we thought of Michael Floyd. However, we are stoked that Worthy fell down to our pick. He should provide some much needed talent to our DT group and will hopefully put some fire to the rear of our other youngsters McClain and Fua. We really feel like Worthy has the talent to be dominant in all areas, we just have to be sure he puts it all together consistently.

With the 46th pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select: Alfonzo Dennard - CB - Nebraska

NFL scouts thought they were going to Nebraska to see one top corner prospect, Prince Amukamara, but wound up seeing two. Dennard's tough play across from the All-American made it difficult for opposing quarterbacks to find options outside, and helped the Cornhuskers rank fifth in the country in pass defense in 2010.

He got on the field as a true freshman, making 12 tackles, then started out his sophomore season the team's top reserve corner before earning starts the final nine games and accumulating 31 tackles, four for loss, and eight pass break-ups. Dennard stood out enough as a junior (four interceptions, seven pass breakups) that Big 12 coaches voted him second-team all-conference.

Dennard was already a very talented player, but new Nebraska defensive backs coach Corey Raymond (a former NFL defensive back himself) helped Dennard improve his technique in 2011. Adding better footwork and hands to prevent receivers from coming off the line to his ball skills and tenacity outside could push Dennard into Amukamara's territory again -- he was selected 19th overall last April by the New York Giants.

Man Coverage: Physical player, tough to get off the line against and willing to mix it up downfield. Fluid hips and good short-area to stay with receivers after initial move. Solid if playing off the line, as well, quick feet allow him to catch up to receivers if failing to get a hand on them initially. Deep speed and recovery speed are average, adding that to below-average height could spell trouble against playmaking NFL receivers downfield. Gets too physical at times, gets flagged for grabbing and holding.

Zone Coverage: Could flourish in zone systems due to closing speed and secure tackling ability. Jumps underneath and slants routes quite well, baiting quarterbacks to throw in his direction. Regularly stands straight up in his backpedal, which causes trouble transitioning when receivers stop their routes short.

Ball Skills: Breaks up passes with hits and by getting his hand on the ball before it arrives at his man. Make acrobatic interceptions by high-pointing or extending for throws, has excellent vertical jump to compensate for lack of height. Runs well with the ball in his hands, capable of winding his way through traffic to the end zone. Inconsistent adjusting to low throws.

Run Support: Often out on an island and not forced to support the run in 2010, but there's no issue with his physicality or willingness to stick his nose into the play. Showed capacity to attack screens and runs to his side as a sophomore, both cutting down and wrapping up ballcarriers reliably. Larger receivers can keep him from getting to the ball, though the effort to beat the block is there.

Tackling: Compact, strong build, tenacity and good closing speed make him a solid tackler on the edge. Rarely misses the tackle to stop receivers they catches passes in front of him in zone or when playing off. Wraps low and holds on to prevent yards after the catch. Good speed and angle gets him credited with tackles while ensuring ballcarriers get to the sideline.

Intangibles: Feisty player who asks to take on bigger number one receivers and likes to talk on the field. Earned more playing time as a junior due to better preparation. Missed most of two games in 2010 with a concussion. Played through a shoulder injury in 2009. Missed the first three games of the 2011 season with a right hamstring pull.

with the 47th pick the GB Packers select:

    Ronnell Lewis, OLB Oklahoma

Pass rush: A very good athlete who plays fast and accelerates quickly upfield. Plays with fluid quickness and sharp footwork. Struggles to shed once engaged and plays with very predictable hand use. Doesn't flash many secondary pass rush moves and has unrefined mechanics as a pass rusher -- can't simply rely on his natural ability at the next level.

Run defense: Keeps his eyes up and quickly locates the ball with good patience and overall awareness. Needs to develop better pre-snap recognition skills and anticipation. Plays hard on every snap, doing a nice job not giving up on the play and making tackles downfield in pursuit. Limited against the run at the line of scrimmage with a suspect base and overall anchor.

Explosion: Not a quick-twitch or sudden player and lacks an explosive first step with an inconsistent get-off. Possesses smooth change of direction skills and can make plays in any direction. Doesn't always play with the competitive fire teams seek in a pass rusher.

Strength: Naturally strong and always looking to finish. Plays physical and violent with aggressive hand use. Doesn't have great growth potential and might be maxed out physically.

Tackling: Reliable tackler in small areas. Strong hands to secure tackles and knock the ball out of the ballcarrier's grasp. Tight-hipped and will miss tackles in space.

Intangibles: Has a lot of raw ability and overall upside for the next level. Had only 14 starts at the collegiate level with underwhelming production. Never led the Sooners in tackles, tackles for loss or sacks. Undersized to play with his hand on the ground and might be limited to specific schemes -- lacks a natural position and was used in various spots over his collegiate career

Had some issues but is very talented and we blieve teh Packers have the leadership to steward this young athlete to reach his full potential

    Rams select...

    TE Ledarius Green

    Talent.

This kid is everything you want in the "modern day" TE, in the mold of an Aaron Hernandez and a Jermichael Finley...Green will be a matchup problem for the opposition. The Rams are high on 2nd year TE Lance Kendricks, but football is changing before our eyes and having players who present mismatches for the opposition is the emphasis.

The 6'6 237lb's with 10 1/8 hands will be asked to add about 10lbs of muscle to help him block at the next level, other than that we are having a hard time finding many flaws with Green.

Its a good day in Ram Land.

    Bengals select CB, Chase Minnifield.

imo, the best pure cover corner in this draft. IDGAF about his size or speed. Dude has insane athleticism, coverage skills, and plays the run well. He'll groom nicely behind Grimes and Carr.
