I am 39 years old. My grandmother lived in daytona, and I spent alot of time there as a child. I have alot of foggy childhood memories of daytona beach. One of those was of a pool of some sort. In my mind, it was on the beach and it seemed to be a really deep pool. The strange thing is, I thought there was strange fish in it. Ive always passed it up as just a strange dream I had as a child based off the fish, but at the same time it seems to stick around as a real memory.

Recently, Ive been looking at some old vintage postcards of daytona and I ran across a postcard of Peps Pool which was right near the daytona peir. This pool seems alot like that very same foggy memory I had from a child. The post card is from the early 1900's, but thats all I can find on Peps Pool. Ive searched online hoping to get any info on it, but i cant find anything. I know its no longer there, but I wonder if this pool of sorts was still around when I was born and if somehow this is the source of my memory? Surely the fish part was imagined, unless it was converted to some sort of aquarium or something. Anybody know about this pool and what happened to it?

heres the post card I found of it....

I don't believe you would find a public pool with live fish in it, even back then. Although, right up the road, north of Flagler Beach, on A1A (about twenty miles from Daytona) in what is present day Palm Coast, there was an attration that had fresh water motes circling small islands. They had plenty of bass and brim for people to see.

I kinda thought the fish might be part of my imagination. Again, this was among some of my earliest memories. This is around another time I have memories being at the boardwalk where I was told I was around 3 years old. Very vague memories. It could be that I may have incorporated two different memories of something? I dont know. The post card looked familier somehow, the memory it reminds me of though wasnt a public pool. It was like manmade and squared, seemed like the water was more deep and dark than a normal pool. I half wondered if they converted that public pool into something else by the time the 70's came around. Im half way wondering if I may be mixing in something from Marineland. I was there too when I was really young. I dunno,....I just have a feeling that if this pool was really still there in the 70's in any way shape or form, right by the board walk (you can see the casino behind it in the postcard), that might be an answer to one of my most mysterious memories thats stuck around since early childhood.

If that photo is indeed of the Daytona Boardwalk, that pool hasn't been there for the past 55 years, I know as fact. Was there a date on the photo or post card?

EDIT: Just found the photo of Pepps Pool for sale on ebay. The photo was taken in 1910.

Thanks guys!! Guess this is not what I remembered. Ill try to do a little research on those fresh water motes and see if that triggers anything. Any idea of the name of that attraction?

No, it was out of business in 1966. We used it to wash off the salt water and a short swim before heading home.

Im really leaning toward this memory as just being a strange dream super early in my childhood. Some of the things that struck out about the memory was that it was a man made rectangle pool and it was by a restaurant. There was strange fish for either show or for food. There was something dangerous about it that made it seem 10 times as dangerous to fall in....1) because it was deep and dark 2) because the fish seemed large and could have been dangerous 3) The darkness of the water created an unknown.......As a kid, the memory seemed real, but as I got older I put a little reason to it and figured it was just something imagined or dreamed or a combination of the two. Theres alot of weird memories of Daytona as a kid, but most have a good source except for this memory. When I saw this post card of pepps pool though, I was blown away!! I know the post card is of a public pool, no dangerous fish, no restaurant and such, but I was certain this could have been the source of something that spawned off alot of childhood imagination....I spent alot of time in Daytona as a kid, chances are I could have possibly seen this very picture of pepps pool someplace. If you look at it, it could be creepy as a kid....the pool has dark water, looks deep...hell even as an adult, I can look at the post card and imagine some crazy sea monster popping out of that pool!! LOL!!

Enough of trying to peice together imagined or dreamed up things in daytona....My Grandmother ran a preschool/ kindergarten out of her home on fairview road in daytona. It was called Merry court kindergarten. She ran it for years...cant be sure when she started, but it must have ended in the late 70's or early 80's. Anyone here familiar with it?

All in all, I've worked in Daytona (mostly Ormond and Bunnell) area with Florida Power & Light for around twenty years in the early seventies through the early nineties but some in Daytona. I can't recall ever seeing Merry Court kindergarten.

I agree, the fish are probably a creation of a young lads dreams from visiting Marineland.

I actually went to Merry Court for pre-K. I remember it was a few blocks from the Fishing Hole.
