this move would be all about butts in the seats, not winning games.
There more I think about it, if, and it's a tremendous "IF", Manning is somehow healthy when free agency begins, and I mean 100%, then I will be on board with renting for a him couple of years. A healthy Manning running this team would make us an instant contender.
I still feel he will not be healthy this year, quite possibly ever, and would much rather go a different direction.

I'm starting to think this will happen. I've been thinking it was possible, but now I'm feeling like it is more likely than ever. Unless Arizona does something big.
I feel like at the end of the day if they get Manning they will be able to say flat out they tried getting a super bowl caliber QB, taking the gamble on his health. If he stays healthy they will look like geniuses, if he doesn't then nobody can really say they didn't try. If they go for Flynn or go for Weeden in the draft and they fail, this whole thing can quickly go down to 2004/2007 levels and there will be more firings. Manning buys them time. RG3 would cost way too much, and after that there isn't much faith in the talent. If Barkley had declared it would be different.
I've thought about Tannehill, but I didn't realize until today he's barely started more games than Mark Sanchez did in college. That's scary.
I won't count Manning out...there have been too many comebacks and miracles in sports for me to do that.

I know this is a dream scenario but at least it would mean our team isn't ignoring the qb situation anymore. Imagine getting Peyton and he's healthy. Washington taking Flynn and Cleveland passing on RG3 and we take him at 8. Ross would get what he wanted by getting Manning and exciting the fan base and more importantly putting some butts in the seats, and RG3 could sit for 2 years and learn behind Peyton before becoming our franchise qb for the next 13 years.
I realize it's more of a dream but it's not impossible because I have read that Cleveland isn't sold on RG3 and they could use a top WR like Blackmon.
I honestly don't see too many real needs for 2012:
a pass rusher & tight end, maybe an offensive linesman. re-sign appropriately. then best on board @ pick
I think the team is relatively flush... hopefully, the coaching dilemma is resolved
we have one last glaring need & it is @ Franchise QB.
fortunately, we have a unique opportunity to remedy the situation immediately & in the future:
1) acquire an immediate contender with Manning @ the helm & go for the big brass ring in 2012
2) while developing a franchise worthy QB (draft Tannehill @ 8) under his tutelage that can take us deep into the decade perennially for championships
I think we can't miss with this deal, provided Manning is ready to start the season.
If he is healthy it's a one-two punch that will serve us immediately & in later years.
