Uhm, yeah, Ireland was STILL talking that "it's a big man's game" crap at the combine today, how many times will that fail before that dummy modifies his approach?

    it's all relative
on both sides of the trenches the rule remains in tact. big, nasty & ugly are a good thing
    having said that
    1) Ireland is the same GM that drafted Pat White.
    2) the GM has to draft according to team needs as communicated by the coaching cadre.
    3) Head Coach, Owner & GM have to be on the same page to be effective.

1-that was parcells, ireland was against taking White
2-not so much, he said he does not neccessarily draft just to fit the coaches system
3-they always say stuff like this, the proof is in the actions, not the words.

I like some of the things Ireland does, especially bringing in CFL elite type players, however I think he is chained to outmoded thinking in terms of the big man theory, he simply must adapt his approach or we shall continue to fail.

we must all move in the "new direction" together to be successful
I think 2012 will be a very good year.

As do I, but I suspect the schedule and the jets and patriots falling off will have more to do with it then great GM work.

Thing is, the big man approach means the opponent has far less game planning to do because they know we are limited in what we can do schematically, and it is far harder to find good big men then to find non prototype talent.

Based on Ireland's record so far as a GM for the last four years, It really doesn't matter if Ireland is on the same page with Philbin. It doesn't change the fact that Ireland is one of the worst player personnel directors in the entire NFL. Philbin may end up being a better HC than Sparano, but he is still stuck with having to coach the players given to him by Ireland. As the Dolphins 20-28 record over the last three seasons attests, Ireland really doesn't have a clue as to how to build a winning NFL organization.

I suspect that after the Dolphins once again finish near bottom of the standings in the NFL next year, a lot of Ireland supporters will finally see where the real problem with this team lies.

I always love reading that line. completely absurd and groundless. If you had said Ireland wasn't one of the elite GMs or even top 10, it would be fine, but to say he's one of the worst player personnel directors in entire NFL is just completely myopic. He's clearly brought in talent, but not to the same level as Ozzie or some of the elite teams like Giants, Saints, Packers.
