Two things. If 13 years is too soon, then someone is just a tad bit too emotional. Second, that joke was most likely not about his death. It's a joke about a spelling mistake and a long retired player.
If someone can't get that was a joke, then someone is taking things way too seriously. I got the original joke, and it was absolutely about Walter Payton being ineffective due to him being dead.

It was all about the spelling, as for the post PSG made. It's spelled Peyton Manning. It's spelled Walter Payton. Adam spelled Manning's first name with an 'a', not an 'e'.
Dumb... just about as dumb as the Tebow billboards in Denver... If the guy was 100% healthy, and only... say... 10 years younger... great idea! However, that's not the case. If he's 100% healthy, I guess... sure... do it. But we damn well better get someone young ready to take over in 2-3 years when Peyton is done.
