I am so tired of see Bell stumbling, falling, being caught out of position and showing up two seconds after the play is over. How we keep this elderly boob on the roster year after year I am sure I have no idea. The points this guy has cost us is staggering.
The good news is that the upcoming draft is very deep at Safety and by the looks of it we should be picking early. These guys are horrible.
I can care less at this point. Get a good GM and build us a team. Safety is just one postion of a long list of many that we need upgraded
Nope. I'd be interested to see Jones move to Yeremiah's SS spot & Clemons regain his FS spot and see how they work together.
Whenever an opposing player eludes everyone else, it's Bell who runs him down and saves the TD. Small consolation, but we would be worse off without him. He's not a Cornerback and should never have to cover Vincent Jackson by himself after Sean Smith hands Jackson (and the result of the play) off like he did today. If that was a mistake, shame on Smith; if it was by design, then shame on Nolan.
Why is Chad Henne the only player on this team that it's not okay to place blame on? For as many excuses as people make for Henne the same number of excuses could be made for anyone on this team. Vontae Davis is out with an injury. Carrol and Jones are more of a liability than anything in the secondary. The pass rush is non-existant outside of Cam Wake which constantly exposes the secondary. The defensive line can't get any penetration. All of these things are true, yet no one leaps to defend Yeremiah Bell. You know why? Because even though these things are true it doesn't change the fact that he's not playing well. Just like despite all the excuses you can come up with for Chad Henne, he's not playing well. And when it all boils down to it that's all that matters. So seriously, tell me, why is Chad Henne the only player on this team that it's not okay to place blame on? I really want to know the answer.
No, you would not want that as Jones is awful as a FS, he would be just as out of position at SS as he simply is not a sound, fundamental player.
Reshad Jones is the human equivalent of a traffic cone. All he does is wear a uniform and ensure that he is one of eleven guys so we can field a legal Defense. Beyond that, he's useless.
The Dolphins don't have a single safety on the team who could start for most of the better teams in the NFL. Ireland has done a terrible job in selecting talent for the overall roster and the safety positions are where he has done much of his worst work.
Ummmmmm.......Yerimiah Bell was horrendous today. Stupid pass interference on a un-catchable ball on a big 3rd down. Got burned like toast on the VJ touchdown. Rashad Jones had to run over from the other side of the field to try to help Bell. Yerimiah has been a great player, a captain for us, for years, but the dude is ****ing done. He sucked out there today, and has all season. He hasnt done ****.
Clemons sucks too. Hes all over the field opposite of where the action actually is. Plus hes a SS playing FS, since Irish wouldnt know a true Free Safety if it bit him in the ***(see Gibril Wilson).
Don't forget his ****ty ball skills...on the Floyd illegal touching penalty, Smith could've easily had an INT
Fact of the matter is, none of these guys are as good as we thought they were...from the top to the bottom of the roster. Best offensive player, BM, just checks out and drops waaaaay too many for the $$ he gets. Best defensive player...hmm..Wake, Dansby, umm...Dansby is a ghost out there..Wake seems to have a play a game and that's it, if at all. Jake Long just doesn't look right out there this season.. And on top of that, it really looks as if an indifference and lack of effort has taken over. Nuke it from orbit...it's the only way to be sure...
Clemons is much better than Jones. I don't see how you think Clemons is a strong safety at all. I would say Reshad Jones is more of a strong safety because he is so ****ty in coverage.
Being a strong safety doesn't mean you suck in coverage. Gibril Wilson wasn't a strong safety playing free safety either. He essentially landed his big contracts with the Raiders and Dolphins off of what he did at Free Safety with the Giants. Clemons handled free safety well last season, and the trappings that traditionally come with the position.
It's not even close, a part of the problem is Jones does not grasp how to disguise a blitz, that is a part of the reason why Db blitzes do not reach the Qb. Qb knows it's coming.
No, but to be a free safety you must be the last line of defense. And Reshad Jones is not discipline in his coverages, takes bad angles, and just overall makes BAD DECISIONS. Not someone who I want playing at free safety, period. His playstyle is more of a strong safety in this system. We're not playing a Tampa 2 here...
It's a sweet gig he's got, too. Wages earned today: Reshad Jones — $15,625 Me — -$5.25 Tackles today: Reshad Jones — 2 Me — 0 Busted Coverage today: Reshad Jones — 3 Me — 0 Missed Tackles: Reshad Jones — 2 (at least) Me — 0 Points given up: Reshad Jones — 14 or 17 Me — 0
I'm not arguing that Jones hasn't sucked. There's no amount of devil's advocacy I can summon up on that one. I'm saying that there's nothing inherently wrong with a bigger, run defending player at free safety, especially if they can make the plays. Chris Clemons did a good job his second year. Gibril Wilson wasn't a bad fit for what the team wanted to do with Pasqualoni, he played poorly on his own accord.
I want Jimmy Wilson on the field, Sean Smith might need another spanking, or, convert Jimmy back to safety..lol..I swear I think the dude is a safety.
I don't think Bell is 'THE' problem, but over the last few years of highlights he certainly is 'A' problem. I think we got too fixated this off season on the offense and let the defense ride and now we are paying the price.
There really wasn't all that much we could have done for the defense aside from maybe getting another situational pass rusher. Honestly I think the base 3-4 is a dead-end. Its players are too hard to find, too easily get replaced on the football field in nickel and dime packages, and it doesn't have that flexible aspect teams were known for in the 3-4 years ago. It would probably be easier going with a 4-3 and we have some good personnel for that system.
