    Hello All,

If the Phins decided to tendered a drafted player is the tender amount based on the player's salary prior to the new contract or on the old contract?

Example Jake Long's $60 million no1 overall or Cam Newton $22 million..

Tenders are used for players on the team that are restricted free agents. The tender amount has nothing to do with their prior salary or anyone elses. Tenders are assigned on the round the team thinks the player has worth. Third round tender , second round tender, first round tender. The amounts are fixed for that particular year. If we use a second round tender on a player he is paid the same as a player given a second round tender from any other team.

Any team can match that tender but then they must also give us a draft pick per whatever tender was assigned. If a player has a first round tender assigned to another team can take him but then they must pay him the tender and give us one of their first round picks. Same for second or third round tenders.

If a tendered player is assigned exclusive rights then we can match whatever is offered to him by other teams.

Exclusive rights free agents cannot negotiate with other teams if they are tendered. They are pretty much signed for the one year contract which is very minimal.

Further more, the RFA would make more than the tender if 110% of his salary the previous year is larger than the tender amount.
